Betika - monkeying around!

Betika

South:Live Betika in session

A musical species from Bournemouth, known as Betika visited the South:Live studios on Sunday 16 March to give a selection of their songs an airing.

Stylistically cornering this Bournemouth band is a very tricky task; the closest Phil Jackson's come to nailing it is The B52's.

In the past one French reviewer described Betika bizzarely as "...for certain the new indie lo-fi Abba" which resulted in some confusion at a gig in Cornwall were the audience were expecting a shiny jumpsuit-wearing tribute band.

The band perform in a number of variations; the 'Micro Betika' is an acoustic duo, the 'Lesser Seated Betika' is a full band that plays sitting down, without the aid of electricity, and 'The Greater Betika' - is a full band that plays standing up!

Their South:Live session featured the full eight-piece band - you can listen to three tracks from their session and Phil Jackson's interview with Carolyn and Dave.

If you're in a band from Dorset and would like to be considered for the show simply send in your CD together with a completed South:Live Entry Form and keep your fingers crossed!
