Help playing audio/video Originally ordered in for customers watching the national football team's recent doomed game against Croatia, the hats have now been put to use by the pub's smoking customers. Since the nationwide smoking ban, all pubs are now smoke-free places. ![]() "It does keep you dry" say the customers So when customers need to nip outside for a cigarette, they put on the umbrella hat and it keeps them dry from the rain while they puff away. Chaz Clifton, owner of the Clifton Hotel, explains: "The problem we got is, if you've got a fixed shelter, that's where they [the smokers] have to go. And if it's raining and the wind's blowing in the wrong direction you're going to get wet anyway." One customer says: "You do feel a bit stupid, but they are funny, and they do keep your head dry." Chaz says the hats have been a success - so much so he's ordered in some more. Watch the video for the full story, and have your say - would you wear one?
