Presenter Sam Smith visited Radipole Lake, which is an urban oasis for people and wildlife. Sam caught up with warden Nick Tomlinson to help him ring Radipole's latest arrivals. Radipole Lake is the RSPB's most urban nature reserve, situated in the heart of Weymouth. It has a mixed habitat, open water and wet grassland, this place is a prime stop off point for many different migrating birds. Winter is the best time to see wildfowl including bittern, pochard and tufted duck. In spring and summer the reed beds are full of warblers, black caps and bearded tits. Even if they are hidden from view amongst the foliage, you can not miss their birdsong which fills the air. The RSPB wardens and volunteers ring some of these smaller summer migrants so they can keep track of individual birds and find out where they go in the winter.
