Purbeck Film Festival

With over eighty films to see in the space of just two weeks, movie-goers in Dorset have a busy time ahead. This year’s Purbeck Film Festival has chosen India as its theme, to mark the 60th anniversary of independence.

If you’re fed up with the latest Hollywood humdrum at your local cinema, the Purbeck Film Festival might be just what you need to restore your faith in movies.

Bride and Prejudice

Its theme this year is India, to mark the 60th anniversary of independence. Films on show include Satyajit Ray’s “Days and Nights in the Forest”, the Bollywood “Bride and Prejudice” and Richard Attenborough’s “Gandhi”.

There will also be an evening at the Rex Cinema in Wareham with Indian dance and music.

The Purbeck Film Festival is the biggest rural film festival in the UK, attracting hundreds of film enthusiasts each year. It runs from 12 to 27 October.

Festival organiser Sir Bill Cotton explains this year’s programme as “a plum pudding of delights with films on India, selections from French and German cinema, 70s classics and popular favourites.”

Venues include the Rex in Wareham, the Lighthouse in Poole, Bournemouth University and village halls across the county.
