BBC Radio Solent Station Information
Frequently Asked Questions
BBC Radio Solent is always open to listeners' comments and questions. Do get in touch, but you may find the answer to your query below.
What area do you broadcast to?
BBC Radio Solent's offcial transmission area is South and Mid-Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. We can be picked up in neighbouring counties and you can listen to a live online stream anywhere around the world.
Can I listen to BBC Radio Solent on digital radio or on Freeview?
BBC Radio Solent is broadcast on DAB Digital Radio in Hampshire and Dorset. To check whether you can hear it, check the BBC Digital Radio Advice website below. At present BBC Local Radio is not available on Freeview.
Can I get a recording of something I heard on BBC Radio Solent?
Although we value your contribution to our programmes, it is not possible for us to provide recordings or transcripts after your appearance on air. We can only do recordings for contributors if requested in advance not retrospectively. Requests should be accompanied by a cassette or mini-disc.
However, don't forget that most BBC Radio Solent programmes are available to Listen Again to online for either 24 hours or 7 days after they are broadcast. Just click on Listen Again!
How can I complain about something I heard on BBC Radio Solent?
We always value your feedback, suggestions and comments about our programmes - just send us an email.
Why can't I hear football commentary online?
The BBC does not own the rights to webcast Premiership and League football commentary. However we do stream FA Cup matches and non-league football, including every Weymouth match. You can follow matches online with live text commentary and post-match interviews on the BBC Hampshire and Dorset websites.
Why are Saints commentaries on 96.1FM and Pompey on 999AM?
Commentary on every Portsmouth match is available on 999AM and DAB Digital Radio in Hampshire. Every Southampton match will be on 96.1FM . When Pompey are the only Hampshire side playing at any particular time, they will be on our FM frequencies as well.
We want our commentaries to be heard by as many people as possible, and for listeners not to have the inconvenience of constantly re-tuning to support their team. The 999AM transmitter is located in Fareham and is a frequency that can't be heard well outside the Portsmouth and Fareham area.
I'm organising an event - can you help publicise it for me?
The Solent Guide is our hourly what's on guide. Visit their webpage for more details on how you can use the service to publicise your event.
My radio reception is poor - can you help?
Atmospheric and weather conditions can affect your radio reception. For more help with radio reception problems, visit the BBC reception troubleshooting website:
Do you offer work experience?
We get a lot of requests for work experience - we do take placements between June and September. We only take one placement at a time and this would be for a two or three week period. Our work experience programme is dealt with centrally and you will need to complete the application form online.
