Do you have a healthy workplace?

Big Challenge

Take part in the BBC's search for Dorset's healthiest workplaces. We're honouring employers and colleagues who encourage others to lead a healthier lifestyle.

The BBC Big Challenge is a two year campaign aimed at encouraging people to take small steps to lead a healthier and fitter lifestyle.

Last year the focus was on health in the home with the Fat Nation campaign. This year the focus is the Health Works Awards promoting health and fitness in the workplace. Over the next six months the BBC will be scouring the country to find the UK’s healthiest employers.

At the moment illness costs the UK £50 billion pounds a year and one in five employees suffer from work related stress equating to 13.4 million sick days each year. So where better than the workplace to start encouraging and motivating people to take small steps to a healthier and fitter lifestyle?

The Big Challenge Health Works Awards aim to celebrate employers and individuals who are switched on to the importance of health in the workplace and who go out of their way to inspire, encourage and cajole their colleagues to lead fitter lives.

There are regional and UK Awards up for grabs with two of Britains greatest athletes, Colin Jackson and Sally Gunnell on the panel of judges.  They'll be searching for Dorset's healthiest workplaces over the nest six months which will then be put forward for the UK awards final in January 2006.

To find out more about the awards or to nominate your workplace or colleagues go to the Big Challenge website.
