Despite being disbanded a decade ago, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the groundbreaking department behind so many classic Doctor Who sound effects and musical scores, celebrates its 50th anniversary this month.

BBC News recently decided to take former members Dick Mills and Mark Ayres back to Maida Vale Studios, home of the Workshop, for a nostalgic visit.

Follow the link below to watch Dick and Mark make Dalek voices, experiment with the earliest synthesizers and create ambient music out of lampshades in a series of fascinating clips.
