Known as The Master

The Master was once informed, 'You are one of the most evil and corrupt beings our Time Lord race has ever produced. Your crimes are without number and your villainy without end.' Naturally, the Master merely smiled as if accepting a compliment!

The Doctor and the Master were at the Academy together on Gallifrey before they chose very different paths. Although both left their home planet, the Doctor chose to fight injustice wherever he found it whereas the Master reveled in evil, launching a sequence of terrifyingly malevolent plots.

Unbeknown to the Doctor, the Master survived the Time War in the guise of Professor Yana. When they were finally reunited, the Doctor desperately hoped the fact that they were the last of their race would convince his old friend to renounce his terrible past. But his hunger for dominion remained ravenous and in a dizzyingly ambitious scheme the Master enslaved Earth, decimated its population and intended to use the planet as a springboard for an assault on the entire universe. The Doctor stymied his plans and reversed time to 'erase' his crimes. The Master's wife went one step further and shot her husband who apparently died in the Doctor's arms, refusing to regenerate and leaving his nemesis to be the last of the Time Lords.

The Master appeared in Utopia, The Sound of Drums and The Last of the Time Lords, but long before the Time War he had a succession of deadly encounters with the Doctor.
