Review: Is new book paradise?
The kids of the Year 6 Reading Group at St Clement and St James School, London - Malachi, Alex H, Lucy, Alex D and Melody - give us their thoughts on Colin Brake's latest novel:
What is it about?: It's about a dying paradise. Did human exploration destroy its eco-system?
What was the setting?: An alien planet called Laylora.
Was it exciting?: Yes, and funny. The Doctor is being really smart in this story.
Was it scary?: A little bit in places, but not too much.
What were the characters like?: The Doctor and Rose come across as being the same as they are on TV. The new characters have strong personalities and you can really visualise them in your head.
Who was your favourite character?: Malachi, Melody, Alex D and Lucy all prefer Rose, but Alex H stayed loyal to The Doctor.
Did you feel that The Doctor and Rose worked well with the new characters?: Yes, the extra characters give the story depth and make it more interesting.
What was the group's favourite part?: The pool game at the beginning, where The Doctor and Rose pretended that the pool balls were planets was very funny!
What was your least favourite part?: As a group we all liked it, except for Alex H. He didn't like the part where the planet makes them do chores... he hates the thought of work!
Do you think it's a suitable book for your age?: Yes, 10+ for sure.
Would you recommend it?: We all agreed yes, we would... Alex D said if his cousin could read English he would enjoy it.
Did it feel like a proper Doctor Who story: No, it was better because you were given more information, which makes you use your imagination. Melody disagreed; she prefers seeing it on screen!
If you could make changes, what changes would you make?: Nothing, it would spoil it.
Rating out of 10?: Malachi, Alex D, Alex H and Lucy all gave it a 10. Melody gave it a 9.
Thanks to all of the kids and teaching assistant John Hancock.

The pool at the beginning was really funny!! There was also romance in a terrible situation. the witiku is an awsome name and i think it's personality is spot on! it was the first doctor who book i had read and inspired me.

As a big fan of Doctor Who, I was very excited when I recieved all 3 new books for Christmas. This one is definetly my favourite, the twists in the tale, the pleasingly different characters and the ever brilliant Doctor! Certainly worth buying, I couldn't put it down. 11/10!

I loved this exciting new adventure and it was a bit scary but thats how Doctor Who should be like. My favourite part was when The Doctor and Rose made an enterence by playing pool. My least favourite part was when Professer Shulough was talking to the crew near the start when the ship crashed and it was boring.

This is, without a doubt, the best Doctor Who book yet! The storyline is excelent, and some of the ideas Colin Brake comes up with are absolutely amazing! I love the idea of a living planet and how a paradise can be just too perfect - and, best of all, how humans can cause unintened damage wherever they go. This book has entertained me beautifully, and now I am waiting until Christmas when I will read Billie Piper's Growing Pains. Well done BBC Books!!

Price of Paradice is a great book to get your teeth into, but it does keep you up all night so you have been warned.
Heather
I loved this book it described what paradise should be perfectly and it also describes the bad effects that can happen if paradise is messed with, basically describing, I think, what human's are doing to destroy our home planet earth.

Makes me wish we could get Dr. Who in the U.S.. I can see how something like this, as with the classic Star Trek and Superman Returns can be used to introduce biblical truths.

When are the adult fan's of Dr Who going to get books that are tailored to them again.
Yes, It's a family show, but it seems that the BBC don't give a hoot about the old audience that existed before RTD
