Mary Kalamkarian, head of programmes for the station, said: "I'm delighted that BBC7 will be bringing some new-to-radio Doctor Who to its listeners. It's a great treat."

The adventures were originally made for CD by Big Finish. Producer Gary Russell told us how the series came about: "So many people thought that after the TV Movie that was it for Paul McGann's Doctor.

"Big Finish set out to prove that this wasn't the case, and here we are nearly 10 years later with a delightful series of exciting adventures that are now being made available to a wider audience who can enjoy the Eighth Doctor properly for the first time.

"He's joined on his adventures by spunky 1930s society girl Charlotte 'Charley' Pollard, who sets out wanting to see the world and ends up seeing the entire universe."

Each episode will be available from the BBC7 website a week after transmission.

You know you should make a film out of the story the TIME WAR With the eighth and nineth doctors in it! That's the story everyone wants to see here in Ireland!

Dave
I beleive that many people feel the same way I do put Mcgann on TV show him regenerating into ecclestones doctor and even better show this time war that the BBC keep giving away tip bits of info for but I think having the 8th Doctor udio books on the radio is great I am now getting used to sitting dow on the sofa turning on sky to bbc7 turning the lights off and enjoying fantastic audio adventures

gearman77@yahoo.com
Bring McGann and Eccleston to the BIG Screen for Doctor WHO "THE TIME WAR." I'm a big fan of the concept of regeneration! And, that regeneration is an all too important moment that connects the Classic Series to the FANTASTIC NEW Series!!!!! HIRE ME......I'm looking for the ultimate reason to move!!!!

ford
In reguards to Doctor John Smith's riddiculous comment that Paul Mcgann is not being the offical Eighth Doctor. He should try telling that to Russell T Davies & the BBC,because as far as there concerned he is.

Doctor
I think that Paul McGann should be brought back into the new series of Doctor who along side Christopher Eccleston, and David Tennant, to do a "repeat" of Three Doctors (Jon Pertwee, Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell) or even such as the an anniversay special like The Five Doctors (as above, also staring Tom Baker and Peter Davison). An episode like this would would be a great idea. You could even bring back Tom Baker to play the Master, as he said he would love to.

Doug
Bring back McGann's Eighth Doctor to the TV screens! A Time War miniseries could be made right alongside the new series. With the Torchwood and (possibly) K9 spinoffs in the works, why not the 8th Doctor in the Time War?

Alexander
Paul McGann was denied the chance of a TV series as the Doctor - but he dosen't disappoint! In my opinion to date he is one of the best actors portraying the Doctor, and he does it very well with only one televised outing and all the radio broadcasts. All we need now is him to appear in the new Doctor series and see the regeneration into the 9th doctor, and hopfully quite a bit time on TV before he regenerates.

tenchi
Hi from the other side of the Ocean. Didnt care for the movie, but once Big Finish started producing for McGann I was hooked on his Doctor. A more romantic Doctor, but still THE DOCTOR. (pssst "ZAGREUS lives amoung the dead" - pass it on!)

Matt G
Paul McGann remains the best actor to play the Doctor since the end of the classic series. I am glad he can now be one of the boys and not blacklisted by so called fans as the George Lazenby of Doctor Who! We got a regeneration sequence between the last TV Doctor and him and that makes him canon. His movie was done as a conitnuation of the series and is NOT in the same category as the Cushing Doctor fronm the sixties.

m0r1arty
Nice to see Tim and dais..erm, Simon and Jess back together! Good one guys!

Richard, the fan who only saw Ecclestone's episode
Dr John Smith is TOTALLY WRONG about Paul McGann!!!!!!!!!! Yes, of course Peter Cushing didn't count when he did his movies, but that was because his 'Dr Who and the Daleks' and 'Dalek Invasion Earth 2150 AD' were BASED ON Hartnell's 'The Daleks' and 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth'!!!!!!!! And Paul McGann's 'Doctor Who: The TV Movie' WAS NOT based on ANY EPISODE AT ALL! Aha, gotcha there, eh, Dr Smith!

simon taylor
Ilove Dr Who anyway, long life fan.All big finish productions are fantastic,in all incarnations of the doctor.Keep up the good work big finsh.

Scott
This is great, I don't get BBC 7 here in Canada, but I will tune in on the web. I always thought that it was a shame Paul didn't get to continue with his Doctor. Now we get to have more of him. It would be great if we could get a time war mini series, and then maybe a 3, 4, 5, 6 doctor story arch in the 2nd or 3rd TV season, with Tennant, Eccelston, McGann, McCoy, etc., adventure. Keep the good stuff coming!

J Cockram
I think it would be brilliant if Mr Mcgann were to make an appearance on the TV series in the role of the 8th Doctor - go on BBC, make it happen!!

R L Moore
Since I live in America, and don't get BBC 7, it is great to be able to listen to McGann's Dr. here on the web. McGann really should have his own televised Dr Who series some day. He is Fantastic!

Steve W Bristol
Well done BBC7 All we need now is for the 8th 9th and 10th Doctor to have a joint episode on TV! Come on Russell, push the boundaries and give the fans what they want

Gareth Cooper
I have always been a 'Whovian' and to say that Paul McGann is not a Doctor is ridiculous!! We saw Sylvester Regenerate into Paul didn't we? I rest My Case! Big Finish productions deserve medals for the quality of their work, and keeping the series going whilst the rest of the 'beeb' had 'forgotten' about Dr Who. Paul & India are amazing as the Dr & Charley and I only wish that their stories had been made into televised adventures!!! Also, check out Colin Baker & Maggie Stables ad The Doctor & Evelyn. - Colin has become a great 'Dr' and Maggie is superb as Dr Smythe and is an excellent foil to the loud n brash 6th incarnation! My wish also, that we couldn't have seen more Colin on tv esp. since he has done the B.F. audios!!

Bret
I absolutely loved Paul McGann's run as the Eighth Doctor for Big Finish. The stories were very well written and he brings such an enthusiasm that can only be described as Peter Davison's Doctor on a constant caffeine high. And despite a script that was complete rubbish, he was marvelous in the 1996 telemovie. I just wish he got more of a chance to shine on television. He definitely COUNTS as "one of the nine" as far as I am concerned.

Shaun Reid
Dr. J. Smith, you are in the minority with regards to Paul McGann. These audios show how good he could have been on TV.

Darryl
I dissagree with the notion that Paul McGann isn't a real Doctor because he was only in one movie. The fact is we saw Sylvester McCoy regenerate into Mr McGann in the film so this 8th Doctor does count because is part of an actuall visual "timeline" (for lack of a bettere term) of The Doctor. This is something that, as others have mentioned, is sadly missing from the new 9th Doctor series. So if anyone isn't a proper Doctor it's Eccleston, no offence to the man after all he did do a good job with it despite this set back. Come on the great 8th!

Doug
Paul McGann is one of my favourite Doctors and I was sad that he was only in one movie, but now I can listen to him on the radio as Doctor Who.

Alden Yates
Wow! Thnx BBC R7! To dr john smith below - bagging paul mcgann is just so yesterday. He's a fantastic dr who in these adventures, and chris eccleston is the ninth not the eighth, get over it already!

Stu
Fantastic! McGann is the best Doctor of them all. There's just something about the quirky Edwardian garb and the eternally youthful enthusiasm...

Gareth
I think the idea of a Paul Mcgann mini series of the time wars (maybe 4 45 min episodes where he regenerates into Chris Eccleston at the end) would be great!!

Douglas carr
It was really wierd that paul mcgann was only in a movie. But here he is and its about time.

Captain David
This is a dream come true !! I have always thought that McGann's Audio Adventures woul;d make great radio. I am pleased that they are now being broadcast, even if it is pon BBC 7 which is only available to those with digital radios on on the web . Lets hope that this season is so popular that more of them are brought or even a fifth doctor , Peri and Erinem season or a Sixth Doctor and Evelyn !!!

Weetfish
Great news, it would be nice to see Paul McGann star alongside Eccleston and Tennant in a future episode, perhaps with a new actor playing The Master with Kate O'Mara reprising her role as The Rani!!!! Just a thought????

PAT
I missed the first broadcast but intend to listen to it via the web. Then try and listen to future episodes via our set top box. I am very pleased that Paul's Doctor is to get a wider audience for his audio plays, but Radio Four would have been better still!

Jeremy
It really is wonderful to see the fantastic Eighth Doctor broadcast again on the BBC; it was a real treat to hear the trailer where McGann talks disparagingly about Ecclestone's costume. Great stuff! Of course Paul McGann is 'canon' and I can only agree with the comments about 'prequels' - Paul McGann's Doctor in the lead up to the Time Wars. Buff's had a successful spin off . .. why not Doctor Who?

Justin
It's good to hear Paul McGann in more Doctor Who adventures. I always thought he'd be a good doctor and these audio adventures make that ring true without a doubt!!!!

Mark Manley
Paul McGann is a great Doctor and I'm glad he's coming to radio. I am shocked that Dr John Smith, who seems to think he is an WHO authority, does not realise the difference between McGann's WHO movie and the Cushing ones!!

Theta
I missed the first one, but now that they're being broadcast on BBC 7, it kind of makes them an official part of the canon now. (In my opinion, it can only be canon if it's been broadcast on a free to air basis)

Penny
Simon Pegg, Jessica Stevenson AND Paul McGann in Doctor Who at the same time!?!?!? I LOVE RADIO 7!!

James Hyles
Another chance to enjoy Paul McGann as the Doctor - fantastic! And in response to a previous comment, he IS the Doctor!

David
This is great news. Paul McGann was fantastic in the movie and ever sinse I have longed to learn more about his doctor. Thanks to this I now can, but I agree with others who say we need him back on TV. I will enjoy listening to these adventures, although nothing can beat the prospect of paul returning to our TV screens- even if its just for a few episodes to show us what we missed, this could be made to tie in some of the mythology surrounding the new series, as Mark mentioned it would be great to see paul in "the time war".

Ian
Paul McGann is simply wonderful as the 8th Doctor. The audio adventures have given him back the role that television robbed him of. He should appear in the new TV series at some point.

Jonathan
How about linking the radio series with the new TV series? If these BBC7 airings are successful, we could have Paul McGann fighting the time war in a new radio series and even at the end of it regenerating into Chrisopher Ecclestone!

Devillo the Worm
As they used to have up on the posters when they were promoting the film... "He's Back, and it's about time."

Mark Hicks
Excellent news. McGann not an authentic Doctor Dr Smith? Strange, I seem to recall The 7th Doctor regenerating into the 8th. I also seem to recall that Eccleston was the 9th! Where's the real 8th Doctor then. We should be told!!!!

Stephen Collyer
Fantastic! 'Tis about time these were aired at long last! Gary and the Big Finish boys deserve about 10 million slaps on their backs for the wicked job they did keeping the series alive. Thank you guys and thank you BBC7 (at last!)

Natahl
What a wonderful idea! Finally, we can get to know the Eighth Doctor a little better, and what nicer way could there be than gathering around the radio with the family, using a little imagination and enjoying the wonderful stories. Thankyou!

Sarah Wilson
Crikey, you wait 16 years for Doctor Who and then three come along at once!

James Sz
Wow...i hav never heard any of the audois, but every one says that they are really good, and unfortuantly i dont get BBC7 either,..but i'll listen to it on the net...GOOD Job BBC, it's nice to see the BBC taking ai interest in the past of doctor who....

Ace
What a pity we don't get BBC7 over here in Australia! great exposure for, in my opinion, one of the best Doctors!

Tiffany
To that dr john smith dude in the list.. WHAT EVER!! I think that Paul McGann is the greatest.Enough about that. I think dr who on radio will be great!! Cant wait!

John Robson
Great news, Paul's audios on the whole have been excellent with the exception of Zagreus. Good to see that Big Finish are finally being allowed to get a wider audience. Kudos Guys

Sarah
I'm glad McGann is getting a fair chance at playing the Dr. Hew played the role well in the film, but was let down by a poor script. The same with Colin Baker - glad they're both getting a fair go. In some ways, the Radio series is a better treat for fans, because they can take more risks and of course the scenery is better!

Paul Sandwell
With a bit of luck these will prove so popular that BB7 will commission Big Finish to create new and original stories not released on cd.

Bob Grist
Paul McGann makes an excellent Doctor and brings a very fresh, eager and youthful voice to the part. His enthusiasm in playing the role shows that he would have made a wonderful TV Doctor. Charley is a fun companion and the stories themselves are some of the best Big Finish audio adventures to have been made. Long live the 8th Doctor!

Sarah Brierley
Good to hear that the Eighth Doctor stories by Big Finish are being broadcast to a wider audience. Paul McGann is my 2nd favourite Doctor too and he does sound as if he enjoys himself.

Johnny Bouy
What great news. THe audios are very well made and written and should bring the talents at Big Finish to the wider public. It would be nice if BBC 7 would pick up some of the other past doctor adventures, but maybe broadcast them in some sort of story order...of course I'm not too sure how the general public will take to the Dr having new companions (Erimem and Dr Symthe). Good news all the same.

Matt
I'm a huge fan of The Big Finish audios and of Paul McGann's doctor so its fantastic that we wil get to hear them on radio at last.

Douglas carr
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sam
Well don BBC R7 thank you!

Christopher Loftus
I am disapointed that this series of Audio Doctor Who has not been even mentioned in this forthcoming weeks Radio Times, considering the interest that the new series of Doctor Who had created, missed oppartunity there for new listeners I think. Enjoy these stories, Paul really sounds like he enjoys being the Doctor in them, (yet another missed oppartunity there as well!!)

John Birch
A clever move by all. BBC 7 gets new radio drama, and Big Finish get a weekly "advert" showing the world at large what they are capable of! It would be good if some of the audios of Doctors 5, 6 and 7 will be broadcast as well? It would change a lot of minds about the Colin Baker's portrayal of the doctor! Never been struck by Stones of Venice I have to say - but hopefully people will stay with it and listening figures will be good as the stories get better and better in the alter "seasons". I wonder if this also makes the Big Finish dramas "officially" part of the canon?

Luke Tritta
Fantastic news!! It's such ashame that Paul Mcgann never had the chance to show what a great Doctor he would have made. Can't wait for the first episode.

michael
I have always been tempted to try one of the audios and Paul McGann is a great actor. Can't wait.

John Putland
some coverage in the Radio Times might have been nice...!!!

Chris
Bravo! Good move BBC!

Derek Pike
If you enjoy these and want more 8th Doctor stories I can't recommend enough, the BBC range of books. If you can manage to read them in order, as a story arc emerges, you will be rewarded greatly. They have kept me gripped for the past few years and continue to do so.

Anonymous
That's great. I've never seen any of the old series so I'll be watching

blissful
i've always considered the Big finish stuff to be purely a commercial marketing spin off. The fact these episodes are going to be transmitted on BBC radio hasn't changed that opinion. If people want to buy them fair enough...just like the novels, novellas or whatever. I personally prefer the real thing! Roll on Xmas and 2006!

Mark
It's good to see the Eighth Dcotor getting some more exposure - hoepfully it'll lead to some more recognition for him. But Dustin's right - why not have some Doctor #8 prequels to the new series? Would anyone else like to see Paul McGann in "The Time War"?

Edward
This is very good news - Paul McGann is excellent as the Doctor and these stories give people the opportunity to hear how good he is. Hopefully this will encourage more people to go out & get more of Big Finish's excellent adventures as well.

J Cockram
The Paul McGann audio adventures are brilliant - I have them all on CD.It has definately given us a real idea as to how good he would have been if the TV series had been picked up after the TV Movie.

Vin
What a good idea!

sid
its about time these storys were released on radio.

Dr John Smith
Paul McGann is NOT "Doctor Who". He should not be included in the ranks of Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, Baker (Tom), Davison, Baker (Colin), McCoy, or Eccleston. McGann played the Doctor on the television ONCE in a MOVIE (American-ised at that). Does Peter Cushing (who played the Doctor in big screen movies) rank in the regenerations count? NO! McGann should not either. Eccleston IS the Doctor--the true 8th Doctor and did an amazing job in the 2005 series.

Colin
OMG i can't wait :3 :>

Anthony
Just FYI, no Minuet in Hell because it's deemed inappropriately nasty for the timeslot, which, actually, is fair. Great that they're getting a decent airing though.

Douglas carr
WOW!

Ian Mugan
Well done BBC!!! I have been buying the cd's since they first appeared - a wider audience will surely what a cracking job Big Finish has done!!

Ian Mugan
Well done BBC!!! I have been buying the cd's since they first appeared - a wider audience will surely what a cracking job Big Finish has done!!

Grant M
These audios should be heard by a wider audience. On the whole, Big Finish's output is excellent, usually equalling and often excelling the standards of Radio 4 drama production. Paul McGann was excellent in the TV Movie and these adventures will, at the very least, provide an interesting diversion for new fans of the series.

Merlin
Im glad that the Eighth Doctor now has his own series for people to enjoy. After the Tv movie paul Mcgann didnt get a tele series though im glad that he has a radio one.

Stuart Ian Burns
What happened to the last story of the first season 'Minuet in Hell'? How could you miss out The 8th Doctor meeting The Brigadeer?

Jack Green
Excellent news! Fantastic! Perhaps if these are a success (which of course they will be) they could be opened up to a wider audience? Perhaps BBC Radio 4? I'm really looking forward to this!

Mark Speeding
The fourth Eighth Doctor CD Minuet in Hell is strangely missing from this schedule!! This story features Nicholas Courtney in fine form as the Brigadier, and is set in a new American state called Malebolgia. Invaders from Mars is a brilliant Mark Gatiss story, with authentic sounding 1938 gangsters and a War of the Worlds sub-plot. All these stories are well worth listening to - and they prove what an excellent TV Doctor, Paul McGann would have been.

Seb
Good to see some of the big finish dr who stories being broadcast for radio listeners.

Jacob R. Mason
It's great to see Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor in something else reather than the TV movie. I can't wait to hear 'Invaders from Mars' - I've heard it's a good'en

Matthew
At last ... I feel this is a good move. Big Finish have produced some cracking good audio play's that need to be experienced by a wider audience and the fact that they are some of the Eight Doctors audio's is even better. Well done BBC and Big Finish.

Sean
I cant wait to Listen to him He is my 2nd best actor in Doctor Who. I am definetley putting BBC 7 on my first 6 channels in the car.

David
This is great news. It's about time (no pun intended) that Big Finish's marvelous audio dramas got the chance to be heard by a wider audience.

Dave
I hope these continue, there are some truly classic titles such as The Chimes of Midnight in this series.

Si Hart
Excellent news! Hopefully this will lead to some of Big Finish's other Doctor Who adventures being broadcast too. It's long past time these audio adventures got given more exposure!

Chris Hunter
YES, thank you. Paul is one of my favorite doctors. Let’s hope this makes the invisible doctor more visible.

Dave
Do you really mean "Each episode will be available from the BBC7 website a week after transmission" or do you actually mean "Each episode will be available from the BBC7 website for a week after transmission"?

Rob Stickler
This is brilliant news, and a great opportunity for new 'Doctor Who' fans to find out what Gary Russell and co have been up to for the last six years. It's a great chance for everyone to hear more of the wonderful Eighth Doctor too, nearly a decade after he first appeared. It may even go someway to making the wait for 'The Christmas Invasion' bearable! Stupendous news, here's to Big Finish Doctor Who becoming a permenant feature on BBC Radio 7! Now we just need some classic 'Who' reruns on BBC2.

The Rani
I have these on CD already, but it's good to know that they're going to reach an even wider audience than ever and Paul McGann's 8th Doctor is given a chance to star in his own series on audio that fate denied him on TV and he does not disappoint at all...

Neil Munro
Paul McGann was by far one of the best doctor's ever but since fox didn't want to make a doctor who series he never really got much of a chance. Shame, though working with Simon Pegg and Jessica Simpson musta been fun, they are both hilarious. Looking forward to that episode.

Jessica
Wow. I have watched and read dr who but now i wil be able to listen to it.

Dustin
Paul McGann was an incredible Doctor and I was sad that he didn't get a real series. I love these audios, I have his entire series. But I think, since he obviously won't ever get a tv series since we're up to Doctor 10 now, that the BBC she make him a couple movies. They could be released during the time the series is on rerun. Who else thinks so?

ruben hill
why is'nt the bbc making its own dr who for radio.

Mark
I cant wait to see, no, LISTEN, to Dr Who on the radio!

Keith
Good to see the Big Finish stuff being made use of for more than just the CD's. I always thought that some of the audio's would have been good on Radio, but alas I don't get Radio 7 on my digital. Still, I'll be tuning into the website to hear them as I haven't bought these discs yet and I may well want to do so soon...
