rohmy
i think its briliant to actually get the actual box set so you dont have to watch the sams series over and over again good look with making some more box sets from rohmy xx

Daryl
As much as i love doctor who, it does not seem worth it to purchase 70 dollars for a DVD, and if you ever have time to watch all the episodes, you'll probably not want to keep watching the same shows over and over.I'd rather just wait for the episodes to show up again.

james the rollerskater
i havent got the dvds yet but all of the episodes r brilliant hopefully they will be better with some behind the scenes. if not they will still be good i know it.

Jaydene
As a fan of the original Dr. Who, I was too young to buy the DVD's of the previous Doctors. It would be great if the BBC produced box sets of the original series.

yasmin
doctor who is great especcially doomsday i wached it on saturday and it was like the best episode ive seen bille was great (no offence david)but she made me cry and i really loved it.doctor who cannot get any better or my brain will explode i mean, david is so sexy and rose is bonny so i think they will be a perfect match in the real life NOT ON DR WHO BY THE WAY so ive had a really good time and i hope every one will get to see the new sid kick that the doctor has...KATHRINE TATE...SO I HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYS IT LUV YASMIN XXX

Rachel
I had hoped that the first series would be transported in a Tardis Box Set and when it did, I was so pleased. Please ignore peoples comments about saving on space, I have it on display to look at. Can't wait for the next Tardis Box Set.FAB.

Zoe Simcox
I really love your show I watch it every Saturday.I love The Doctor and Rose.I have the DVD and it is fantastic.Keep up the good work.

Nick
I am looking forward at the new series of doctor who staring chrisphor eccleston as the doctor and Billie piper as his companion and when i buy the DVDs i am going to take a whole day just to watch them.

jack
i've allready got they all but i just keep on watching them again and again and again and again and again.there just fantastic!!

Sean Connolly (Age 10)
What a great DVD the BBC have made it just right. A very good DVD with 3 fantastic. Here are my raitings: Episode 4- Aliens Of London 8/10 Episode 5- World War Three 8/10 Episode 6- Dalek 10/10. Good Digital Video Digital.

Stephen
I bought the first two DVD's, why are they not in 5.1?

dejvo
amused to note that the boxed set is called "the complete FIRST series." Did I miss something? Are all the latest adventures actually set before previous ones, making Eccleston the first doctor? The curse of the prequel, perhaps...

Region 1
Release this on Region 1 and we'll call it even on that whole Tea Party thing, honest!

paul
WHY IS THE NEW DVD SET NOT COMING OUT IN 5.1 OR DTS IN SOUND AS THE FIVE DOCTORS IS FROM 1999

Sam
I think the boxset is a great idea! The design is excellent, and as for the guy that said £15.99 was too expensive for only 3 episodes, you have to remember each is 45mins long, that totals up to just over 2 hours per dvd! Thats longer than most movies bought for the same price.

louise
When you think about it isn't Doctor Who suppose to be aimed at families, yet i presume most potential buyers will be children, or their parents. Therefore i have to say that the £70 price tag is a bit much to charge for any series box set, even if it is the fantastic Doctor. And for £70 they could at least include confidential. Ohh well i guess i'll just be skint, and maybe have go without food for a couple of months after November. Hopefully it will come down in price juring the christmas sales, ohh but i want it now!

Angela
Please include Dr Who Confidential - how could you NOT??!!!

James MacBettyham
The new TARDIS dvd set is a great idea and looks brilliant. i just purchased Volume 1 (rose-the end of the world-the unquiet dead) off ebay to Australia (where I live) before I came out here. I got it yesterday (8th june) and it's great. I dislike the menu though. It plays the opening titles and keeps repeating. The words are hard to read too. Overall though, I think there both fantastic.

despratestarthatisdying
These vannila releases are good idea's. They're immidiate releases for the episodes, you'd be complaining if you had to wait all that time for the box set only! Be grateful that these exist. I'm getting them all as soon as they get to Region 4.

Mark
How about a region 1 release!!!! we are not getting the new show here in the states!! atleast let us get the DVD's. we are the second biggest market for Dr Who!

The Master
i hope the bbc re-release back to back episodes as feature lenght editions if the empty child and the doctor dances, but i hope the take the credits out of number 9 and open credits of episode 10

Doctor Moo
I love the daleks! They are so cool but you cant buy all of their episodes on dvd. So why doesnt the BBC release them all in a box set. Episodes are released due to popularity and how much bonus material is avalible. But just the name "Dalek Box Set" would make the sets sell themselves. You wouldn't need loads of extras, just take all you have and put them on another disc. Just having an extras disc would be enough to satisfy extra hungry fans, so that includes everything you need to make an episode into a dvd. Daleks are Peoples Favourite doctor who enemy and that makes them popular. And from all the episodes with the daleks in them, there has to be at least enough bonus material to fill up at least one disc, and if theres not, you could put in the Doctor Who Confidential Episode about the daleks. And on your part, you would make a fortune on them!

Ben Donaldson
I think the Dvds are too expensive. It is 15.99 for 3 episodes. I think it should be about 5.99 istead.

David, Glasgow
Am not too fussed about DWC being included in the boxset as I can only put up with so much "RTD is a genius" nonsense from Chris. The design is a neat gimmick but how to follow up, season two in an oversized dalek perhaps? Plus the thought of paying £22 more for extras and a fancy box over the vanilla releases is gonna grate for a while but who am I kidding. Am gonna hold out for the box set. The Beeb doesn't seem to have thought things out very well as the reaction here shows. The first season? That is a slap in the face for older fans aand will only serve to confuse new ones. Call it the Complete 9th Doctor instead.

Tracey Devlin
why not publish an All-Region DVD and be done with it!?

Susie
I can't wait! Even though £70 did seem like a lot of money to start wit for all of them, after I thought about it, it's actually quite good, with all 13 episodes, and a special features one, its not bad. I'll definately be buying it. Although, I have to agree with other people in saying that I am dissappointed that Confidential isn't coming out on DVD. That would be great.

Waiscoat
Bought the first DVD - won't be buying the second though. Only 3 episodes per disc, no 5.1 & no extras is a real disappointment - I could do that with my PVR! Might buy the box set if these major shortcomings are rectified.

Liam
Thanks BBC for releasing the new DVDs. I'm saving up for an inflatable Dalaek so I have to wait longer. Whats the point in confidential on DVD it'll be nice but it would clog space [I guess]

Ryan
I'm happy that the DVDs came out so early. They look great too but I wish they'd bring out the whole lot.

Andy Mac
I can't belive there will be no 5.1 Dolby Digital. Thats a very poor effort. And what about Dr Who Confidential??? Its a good series but this looks like a poor DVD release. I for one won't be buying it, especially as it lacks 5.1 sound!

Paul Metcalfe
I agree with a previous poster that it would have been a smarter move if the DVD covers matched the other Doctor releases. This looks like you are separating the new series from the old. Paul

Chris Nelthorpe
While I understand the 12 certificate being added - animated corpses and the like - I disagree with the reasons given by the British Board of Film Classification. The negative actions cited - taunting, revenge, violence - were offset by those of redemption, rationality and compassion. By making these changes, both the Doctor and the Dalek should prove to a young audience how people can change and evolve through time, and really, that's a lesson that all under-12s should learn.

paul cox
Nice on BBC! a great new programme and a DVD that is just the job! lets have many more!

joe nicholson
maybe you should bring out two dvds witch have say six episodes on one and seven on the other

Tom Baker's Dalek
Great idea to release the new series on DVD, but a better idea is to have it in 5.1 with extra features too. Hope the BBC will issue some more of the older episodes too.

Paul
My god, doesn't anyone have anything NICE to say about the DVD's? "Oh, the box looks rubbish!", "Oh, its not in 5.1!". Well I think they look fine.

Graham Hills
I was a little disillusioned to learn that the forthcoming DVD release will be a '12' Certificate. On reflection, this might be due to the dark nature of episode 3. If this is not the case, I'd be a little concerned. There have bee a few adult references scattered through the series, but in the main, I think a 'PG' rating would have been suffice. I think it's very important the the programme remains suitable for the whole family.

The Rani
Two versions and neither are what the fans want :(

Mike
If the BBC want to take the bull by the horns and make a heap of money, releasing classic episodes in either whole-season boxed sets or 1 or 2 episodes per dvd is the way to go. Before the new series started I was neither here nor there about dr who, but seeing the quality of the programme and the endless storytelling possibilities of the setting, I find myself wanting to understand everything about this fantastic show. how about some themed box-sets featuring old episodes and any new ones as appropriate. Just off the top of my head, how about: The Daleks collection, The Timelords collection, The Cybermen collection, The Master collection?. This would serve as a fantastic introduction to the old material for newbies like me, who would easily know what they were getting with titles like that, rather than taking pot luck on an old episode with an ambiguous title. For this venture to be as successful as possible the BBC should release archive episodes as soon as they can in order to get on the bandwagon of increased Dr Who interest before they miss this golden opportunity to make cash out of product that is most likely just sitting on a shelf somewhere in television centre.

Chris
Im happy that the New series is coming out on DVD. The look of the box set is a good idea!

Ian
At the £50 most online retailers will charge, I'm not going to buy this. If it goes down to £30 I might. As for 2 channel vanilla releases, you might as well buy on efrom a car boot sale that someone has recorded from the telly.

Andrew
Confidential! Confidential! Confidential! Confidential! Confidential! Confidential! Confidential!Confidential! Confidential! Confidential! Confidential! Confidential!

Tony
To be fair to all, we've waited a long time for the show to come back, and the good old bbc have got the dvd's out pretty quick so full marks to good old auntie

The Doctor
If D.W confidential is not to be included on either of the DVD releases could it be released as a seperate spin-off release along with the DVD box set, thus allowing those that want it to buy it & those that want other extras on the Box set to get what they want. And the BBC has another product to make money on. ;)

Edward Rees
I think that the new DVD IS ABSOLUTLY brilliant

Adam Haydock
The Dvd artwork seems quite cool but doesn't match the previous releases. As for the box set, what were the BBC thinking?

Faiz
The strategy of release two versions of the series is a sound one, and it's great the BBC have informed us of their intentions. But although the extras will be welcomed by the fans, the packaging shown for the box set is really disappointing. The BBC used to release 6 episode stories in great big double tape boxes, siting the public's desire to get perceived value for money (and ironically, doing absolutely nothing extra with the extra design space available on the spine). This was a real waste of space and eventually, the beeb started to release them on regular tapes (like the 7 part Dalek origin story). This DVD box set harks back to that time - it's pretty but cumbersome and and will present a real storage problem. Whatever happened to making something small on the outside and big on the inside?

*******
They Should make the dvds in the style of the older ones

Mark
Problems with proposed boxset packaging; 1) Takes up lots of space on the shelf (if it even fits) 2) Takes up lots of space on the retailers shelves (unhappy retailers) 3) Liable to smash like an eggshell in transit (unhappy punters, unhappy online retailers when they get all the returns) 4) Liable to small like an eggshell when handled in store (unhappy retailers) 5) Liable to smash like an eggshell while being shipped to the store (unhappy retailer again!) 6) Fiddly to get the disks out when you want one 7) Repeated handling liable to turn the whole thing into a dog-eared mess. 8) It looks cheap and nasty (and it ain't cheap) Benefits of proposed packaging; 1) Possibility of the diehards buying both versions to get the more robust boxes and nicer covers 2) Disintegrating packaging means they can resell it to us in a more sensible box in a years time, when the first lot have sold out, and the funny box novelty has worn out. 3) Errr ... that's it. So great for the BBC, not so great for us. Isn't fun what you can do with simple packaging.

Parrott
The DVDs are in Stereo format. The show was made in 5.1. Why are they even skimping on the sound? Is the picture going to the black and white and in Pan Scan?

Mark
I am totally torn as to whether I should wait for the complete series DVD or buy the individual volumes. I really feel that I would not be able to wait until November to get my hands on the complete series and can see myself buying the individual volumes due to lack of patience. I just wish the BBC could shove a few extras on to the individual volumes so we don't feel totally cheated!

Southpaw
As has been mentioned before, you can watch Confidential on this very website, and really, interesting though it is, once is all the viewing it needs.

Daly-Chalk
I think the vanilla packaging looks great... Why do we have to have toy packaging for the boxset? It looks cheap and nasty, and yet it isn't...it's a real shame...

Tom
I can't wait to see the show. We here in the US are peeing our pants waiting for the DVDs to come out. I'm trying not to read to much about each episode so as not to ruin anything. I plan on buying ever single episode that is made "regardless" of cost. Some things in life are priceless, Doctor Who is one of them. Cheers to you in the UK.

mark
the dvds are two expensive, for example, 10 hours of friends cost 20 quid, 40 quid for the boxset would be more fair

Alex
Give the DVDs a chance! The BBC web site has had some splendid behind the scenes info! A lot of it even better than what we get to see on Dr Who Confidential! Don't get me wrong. Confidential is great fun but a bit slow and all over the place. Hopefully the DVD extras will be a lot more focussed!

Gareth Stafford
In my opinion it would make sense to include Confidential as an extra on the box set - Doctor Who DVD's have always boasted a wealth of quality special features - much better than your average major release - take the Kill Bill films for instance. The over inflated price for the box set (£70??? come on!!!) really needs justification and including Confidential would do that, and would sway this fan for one in it's direction.

Gary Tams
On second thoughts, 'Confidential' with alternative stock BBC music to solve the clearance problems would be a damn good idea....and amusing outtakes please!!!

Rob
I'm not too bothered about Confidential to be honest and would prefer to see new extras on the boxset such as RTD's home video footage and more extensive behind the scenes footage. Confidential whilst very enjoyable contains far too many clips of the dodgy old series with hammy acting and wobbly effects which would look out of place amidst the new series which is absolutely fantastic.

Theta Sigma
A more realistic price for the vanilla releases would be £9.99 as they will not have any extras. As to the boxed set, what was wrong with the standard boxed set packaging of slip case and fold out 'cross' disc holder, that every other DVD producer has used for countless other DVD season sets? Again, a realistic price for it should be around £39.99 - £49.99.

Dougie Newell
I wouldn't worry too much about Confidential - its not that good, most just clips from the old series spiced up with the odd interview and behind the scenes stuff. Not worth a DVD release.

Andrew
My guess is that the behind the scenes stuff from the new series that we saw on Confidential will be cut together for extras

Joan
They really should include Confidential for those of us second class citizens who cannot get BBC3.

David Forbes
The lack of 'Doctor Who Confidential' in the boxset will be a great boon for bootleggers. It'll be like a return to the good ol' days you could only get off-air recordings of deleted stories on bootleg tapes! Not everyone with access to this site has the internet access to Doctor Who Confidential at home, by the way - some of us use our work PCs during breakas and we can hardly sit here watching documentaries. Also, I had to return my digibox as the reception in my area is lousy.

matt
to be honest, all i want is to be able to watch the series on dvd. not fussed about special features etc etc, just gimmi the show, i have countless box sets of tv shows and movies, many of them i have never watched the extra disks.

Jennifer
I would really like to see the outtakes I think it would be great fun to see the scenes that make the actors laugh. This is DrWho, they should be having a great time making the series and laughing at the silly stuff

Thomas Jones
I am shocked to hear that you have no plans to put Confidential on the DVD's, I have watched doctor who for ages and suprised how well Chris Eccleston has done. My favourite doctor was Peter Davison as that was my era shall I say and the episodes he did were brilliant. The price is high for the TARDIS boxset but i'm sure when the christmas sales are on it will drop. People will buy the boxset (Myself included) but if the Confidential is on it there will be more people interested in buying the boxset.

Nathanael
Oh, and what's *absolutely crucial*: The original as-supposed-to-be-broadcast episodes, uncut, unlengthened, unretouched, and un-re-edited, must be included. Ask the Doctor Who Restoration Team and they'll tell you how many fans care about this!

Anthony
I think the DVD's should include Doctor Who Confidential, it's a good follow up to each episode. I also think the DVD's should have a remixed Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track to improve on the great stereo soundtrack each episode has; time travel with an extra special 21st century sonic dimension! But the BBC has chosen to do Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound only, shame on you!

rob
sorry but the packinging looks like it belongs on an easter egg, hasn't the message got through yet that most people *hate* novelty dvd boxes?! they dont fit on the shelf with all your other discs and shops won't keep them on display for long because they take up too much room. and as for the price... great programme, but you really screwed up on the dvd release

Mark Reynolds
One request: please, please, PLEASE include "...Confidential" and "A New Dimension" on the DVD's (or even as a separate release). Please? I live in hope...

Anthony
I wish the DVD's were released with scintillating 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound, now that would be EXCELLENT to be enveloped in the soundscape of the current Doc's adventures! But no 2.0 Stereo Dolby Digital seems to be the norm, shame on you BBC!

Christian
That tardis shaped box set won't fit in my dvd rack :(

Kevin Thomas
A great idea would be to release the whole of the confidential series with the Christmas special in January 2006. That way you get the special & confidential all in one.

NigelJ
Thanks BBC for the option of an early release of the new series on DVD. What about insertion of replacement music tracks as a way around the problems of releasing DWC on DVD ? Yes, it would require extra work but it must be less expensive than trying to clear the soundtrack in it's current form. The comments on this site alone show it would recoup any initial expense.

Dodge
As much as it would be nice to have "Confidential" preserved on the DVD boxset release we're talking 2 extra disc's worth. And how many times would you actually watch them with all the other Who material being released? Better just to canibalise the best bits of the interviews to make a single "making-of" feature. Pontifications from past Doctors & companions on shows from their era don't really belong on a new series set.

Craig Bentham
The box set looks tacky and cheesy. Why not make it so it won't look out of place with the rest of our DVD's? I'd also like to see the original series' getting released in box sets rather than an episode every Month or so.

Josh
This is great. I dont care there's no Confidential. It would've been nice but no big deal. I dont think i can wait till Autumn for TARDIS box set to come out!

Lee B
I have to say that I really like the look of the packaging. However, up to £70 for the box set... even with the inevitable online shops' discounts, it'll still be well expensive. The 'Confidential' issue will rumble on for ages... so rather than just re-issuing the individual DVDs with a 'Bonus Disc', why not re-do the individual discs adding each episode's matching Confidential? Now that would really justify the asking price. I beleive rights issues may be the sticking point... a shame if that's the case, a bit of a lack of foresight there... Ah well, they'll sell by the ton anyway !! :)

SusanForeman
I would really like Confidential to be on the discs -- not everyone has a digibox.

Trevor Donnelly
No Confidential? Are you insane?

Benjamin May
I'm afraid I don't like the box set packaging very much. Can't they make it simpler? I think they should just have the 5 ordinary individual DVD cases, in a cardboard sleeve, like they did with the Star Wars Trilogy or the series box sets of Futurama. That way, even as the outer cardboard sleeve deteriorates, at least we'll have the proper cases, which should last. I'm still looking forwards to this, but a big thumbs down on that crazy packaging!

Taran
It sounds like a great idea, especially the tardis-shaped box, but the price is just too much, i mean £70 is too much money to pay.

nathan
why is everybody complaining about the box set? if you dont like it just buy the dvds seperate. i for one am lookin forward to the realse of the box and hope more fans will like it.

stuart mccurrach
One major thing wrong with the box set is that it says, ''The Complete First Series'' on the box. I think you'll find it's actually the 27th series. They should leave that off the box.

Ryan
The confidential element is essential...although I will be buying anyway.

Leslie
I do wish you would all stop moaning about "confidential" being on the disks. If they are going to put it on, it will be on. If they don't it won't, it's as simple as that. And my only complaint about the new series, is that they insist on showing you what is going to happen in the nest episode at the end of the previous one. "Come on", the original series where better simply because the stories lasted more than 1 episode and you were kept in suspense for 7 days wondering what was going to happen next. Much more dramatic & scary!

Lucas
perhaps confidentail will be released with the Xmas episode or will the Xmas episode alone be 15 pounds for 30 minutes, no extras. What are the proposed extras on the boxset anyway. I hope there are commentaries on most episdoes.

David Cope
i'm looking forward to the new series on dvd. it would be cool if they had a reversable sleeve so that they matched the design of the sleeves for the previous doctors dvds. perhaps the BBC will release them in the sleeves of the older doctors sometime in the future

James Rascal
Really looking forward to the boxset out later on in the year. I like most feel it an incredible shame that the "Confidentials" won't be included, maybe once christmas 2005 is over a double disc set of the christmas episode and the "Confidentials" would be a good idea as a start for 2006 - I'm sure most of us die-hard fans would appreciate that :-) Best wishes, James.

Jon Bishop
OK to buy all the 4 standard release will cost £64 . AND to buy the box set will cost £70 . Thats a difference of only £6 ! ! ! Thats £1.50 exra per discs for loads of extras and a tardis shaped box . Dont you think that for a £6 differnce people will hand on for the box set ? ? I know I will be ......

Gerry Prescott
I agree with other writers that the tardis box is rubbish. Couldn't they just sell the DVDs in a stronger box like "Lost in time". Anyone wanting the tardis box could be shown how to make it on Blue Peter, as it looks that bad! or what about a tin box like the videos were occasionally released in.

Louis Spina
I would just like to know what the extras are. I would HOPE and ASSUME there are commentaries from Chris, Billie and Russell on most if not all Episodes explaining the changes between the old series and new well bar the obvious like budget. I am also a sucker for blooper reels, maybe a video dairy?

Ben Dyson
I think Doctor Who is the greatest thing to come out on DVD

Orlando
Space is a BIG factor these days & I'd prefer to get the extras but not in that packaging.

Jonathan
After many years buying BBC Dr Who videos and dvds that can't keep their packaging uniform from one release to the next (changing logo placement - cover design, spine layout) I envy those Buffy and Star Trek fans who are encouraged toi display complete sets because they were designed with the entire set in mind, not just the individual release. Now with this TARDIS box set (which does look cool by the way) I wonder whether we may have the same problem. Does this mean we get a TARDIS every year or next year do we get a different design box set and end up with a Dr who collectrion tyhat looks truly mismatched? I mean, the Video tin sets were, although nice enough by themselves - annoying in that they broke the display of the series videos. I know this sounds niggly and the box does look very cool (although I also have the same reservations as to how it will stand the ravages of shop retailers and time)but it is this sort of mcro-management of design - working out how the end product will be sued and displayed with other additional products - that makes the difference between a good design and a brilliant one. Look at the Blakes Seven box sets. simple, easy to display / store, uniform and look fantastic. So we know you can do it!

semp[at]]semp.prv.pl
I think that the box is fine! Tardis outside - tardis inside - what's wrong with it?

tom walker
i am looking forward to the dvd release but would prefer it if the boxes were done in the same package style as all the previous dr who series dvds.

Andrew Whittle
A standard DVD can hold up to approximately 3-4 hours of video footage so sure the BBC can squeeze confidential onto the box set discs and still release the extras they are planning to on disc 5

Justice
I am glad to see two DVD releases coming. I am concerned about the Sound. will they contain 5.1 and DTS?

Neil
Good news about the DVDs but...um...do we HAVE to have it dressed up like a toy?

Matthew
I think that the case is well designed and is quite similair to the 30th anniversary trial of a time lord box set.

Andrew Tait
The packaging of the DVDs looks absolutely yummy. Compliments the epic tone of the series in a very smart way.

Paul Kinnear
I don't cart about packaging, extras or stuff like that - I just want the shows released in anamorphic widescreen - Any chance, BBC?

Stating the Obvious.
Does no-one read the other DW site... Confidential can't be released on DVD becuase of the cost of clearing all the music clips for copyright etc.

Nick Gowman
I'm happy with the idea of releasing vanilla discs for the masses and a collectors set for the die-hard collectors - seems commerically sound. However, I also agree with other posters about the apparent poor design of the boxset. I guess it's hard to tell how sturdy it is without seeing it, but I hope it's not going to fall apart after being opened and closed a few times. Not too bothered about the lack of Confidnetial to be honest (contrary to most others it seems). I'm "lucky" enough to have access to Sky+ and can happily watch them on that or VHS if I wish. The main draw for the DVD set for me will be the 5.1 sound mix which you can't get on the broadcast. Fingers crossed it's included!

Johnny Higgins
I love the idea of the box set but I must agree the card board tardis looks a little flimsy, and I don't think the designers have really used enough of thier imagination with this one. For the retail price of £70 you'd expect more discs (with the doctor who confidential on it) and a plastic shaped tardis that opens up in book form similar to the new re-release X Files format but wider and thicker, also get rid of Christopher and Billie from the cover and you might be on to a winner. Give fans something that is going to look great on the shelves, something that does the new series justice. The cardboard Tardis does not resemble the new flash series does it?

Please more "no-frills!"
So why can't we get the other doctor who series out on dvd as quickly!?!? All these special editions take so long to produce that they only show up 3-4 times a year. At this rate I'll be 50 before the original series all make it to dvd, and by that time, there won't be any more dvd!!!! please do something to get the ORIGINAL dr who series disks out quickly on no-frills dvd's thanks!

JT
Surely a candidate for a DW DVD 'extra'....BBC Scotland trailer for the Beech Grove Garden, Jim McCall leading his gardening buddies into his wee garden shed promising '....a trip of a lifetime' before the shed dematerialises, everyone out there in TV-land wants to be a part of the new series now!! Well done BBC Wales, RTD Chris E. Billie P. & all, thanks for all your hard work guys, the wait was worth it!!!

David
As I see from everyone else, they think the same as me that Dr. Who Confidential should be included in the box set, otherwise it is not worth spending money on. I will not be buying the vanilla disks. That would be pretty silly as the box set will contain more. The box is not good and I think need to be redesigned and less flimsy. BBC look at yourselves again and come up with a better box set. Lets not just cash in on the new series and give something back to all the fans!

Geoff Major
It's great the boxset is coming out this Autumn, but, like others here, I too think the TARDIS packaging seems tacky. It seems it's made of cardboard which means it will probably be prone to wear & tear and spliting over time. I just recently found a copy of Trial Of A Time Lord (3-VHS box set) from the mid 90's which is in a TARDIS TIN, very sturdy, something like this design for the new boxset seems like a better option surely?

Malcolm St Pierre
Seventy quid for the TARDIS box set? Do they think my wallet transcends the dimensions? Why can't they package the whole season for around £30 like 20th Century Fox have done with the re-packaged X Files DVDs (and some episodes have features too!) I concede that the original box sets were around this price, but my guess is they didn't sell so had to have a rethink. Even the Star Trek box sets can now go for half what they tried to sell them for.

tony holt
are they putting dr who confidential on the box set i hope they do. it would compliment a fantastic seris i just cant wait for saturday night to come its just like watching it when it first came on well done bbc on a fantastic new seris the doc rocks

Shaun Greenacre
As a lifetime fan of Doctor who, I am deeply disappointed to hear of a sorely lacking list of 'extras' on the new doctor who dvds. Especially the news that Confidential will not be included as a part of the new doctor who releases. This is particularly insulting, as I am currently paying for several channels from the BBC that I cannot receive!! The packaging also appears to be somewhat unimaginative and bland. I was expecting something that complemented the current range of dvds being issued (i.e. the old tardis 'roundels' replaced with hexagonal yellowy ones along with the new logo and gold cases). Besides, the new style seems to show such a lack of effort on the part of the designers - you guys should be ashamed of yourselves!! This is particularly noticable by comparison with the previous black sheep video and dvd covers, Which have been of a consistently high quality. Finally, Perhaps you should consider removing the incredibly annoying 'next time...' bits altogether (or at least have the option to not show them!!), as so far they have spoiled any possibility of suspense to be had in the following episode!! Look Guys, as much as I hate to gripe, the bottom line is that the new Doctor Who is an event of epic proportions to old fans and newcomers alike - you should be making a substantial effort to give the Doctor the kudos he deserves, while delivering the customer a product worthy of consumer expectations!! Thanks for listening x

Borusa
Why, when the new Doctor Who looks so great does the packaging for the boxed set of DVDs have to look so cheap? Do the walls wobble when you close the TARDIS doors?

Gavin Bollard
Great to hear that the DVDs are coming soon. I want the extras disc, but I'm unlikely to buy a TARDIS box as it looks like it won't fit on a shelf properly. Are you sure you can't release the extras disc separately too? PS: Congratulations on letting everyone know up-front about the two choices we have.

MadSkotty
About time for the boxset. But BBC, come on, don't be cheap (the price sure isn't) and put the Confidential series on. Maybe you could get rid of the "Blue Peter" extras you find necessary to put on some of the previous DVD's. Plus get rid of the Doctor and Rose on the front (maybe put them inside the boxset instead?). But all in all, the best Xmas pressie of them all, this will be!

Tom
If you don't release DOCTOR WHO CONFIDENTIAL on DVD you will disappoint many, many people.

Tom Saunders
I do agree with the peope who think that 16 quid is a bit much for the one disk DVD and should be around £10-£12 at the most. also the doctor who Confidential should and could (surely) be put into the box set on another disk (please)and hope the extras in the box set are worth it(iam sure they will be tho)

Christian
Personally, I think they'd be much better dumping the Tardis design box which won't looks greaton my shelf anyway (would prefer somethign along the lines of the Buffy or B7 disks), slapping an extra couple of disks in the set and including all the Confidentials as well for a bit more cash Certainly don't see me buying the bare bones disks

Mansoor Mir
Will buy the box set simply to own the episodes and the extras (even though the price is too high, the graphics are tacky, the physical design looks flimsy and I don't really have the space for such a shelf-hogging box).

Tim
No frills DVD, just a quick cash in if you ask me and as for the £70 boxed set, are we paying for the packaging (WHICH i THINK IS UNIMAGINATIVE , cause there doesn't seem to be a lot else to attract the consumer!

Michael Pritchard
The idea of releasing two types of releases is just money making from the bbc. For the best price buy online, someone mentioned £16 a DVD, they are £11-12 online wth free delivery. The box set is overpriced too - A fully featured 5 disc spooks box set retails for around £30 - surely for £60 we should be getting more than 5 discs with condifedential on them as well!

Toby L.
I think it is great that the BBC is releasing the episodes on DVD as they are being broadcast, rather than forcing us to wait until the end of the entire run plus a few months. I hope they consider doing this for other series' too. I do however think that the RRP is too high, as that is close to the price of a "normal" 6 episodes and some extras BBC DVD price

Chris
Great, thanks for making these available!

Ben
I can't wait for the boxset to come out and like everyone else here agree that Confidential should be on the boxset.

The Mole
I will wait for the boxset myself. I don't want parts of the season in bits and I like the packaging and extras. I think is a shame the confidential stuff isn't part of it, but would make things expensive. It could be released independently though in a limited number.

dani
The box set packaging is just awful. It looks like Easter Egg packaging. Who wants a cardboard tardis taking up valuable space with the rest of their DVD collection? Well, apart from the uber-nerds that is. Couldn't they have come up with something a little bit, well, more tasteful and practical. Whoever mentioned the Buffy-style packaging was spot on.

Martin
Shame that the vanilla releases are being released in long lasting plastic cases, while the "collectors edition" gets released in packaging that will fall apart within 5 mins. And don't even get me started on the size of that box. Please rethink the boxset idea. Give us packaging that will last, and not tear/rip/fall apart.

John
i think that it is great that Doctor Who is going to be on DVD i will go out and buy it for sure i can't wait till it comes out but i think that the box set is a bit expensive for £70 so i think i will just but the single DVD's

David
The BBC have never managed to market their product well. The 'classic' (I hate that ref') range sold at £20 a time with cover art that defied any design appreciation what so ever. OK, so I bought every one but I was not pleased with them. The new series is very good in deed and I have had that 'Saturday Evening' feeling put back into Saturday evenings!! The BBC have a superb product here, and should follow the USA in their complete series format release of both this and previous WHO. The price is wrong - £30 should be the benchmark and that is still a little high. The confidential stuff is tailor made for a high quality extra so come on, use some sense and put it on there. It's about time (no pun intended) that the BBC packaged and marketed their Dr Who seasons like the American series and released them with quality back up material at a price that does not exploit or insult the DVD buying market. In closing, for new series is great and the confidentisal makes a terrific follow up show. Please don't screw ip the DVD release.

Johnny Miller
To all you people moaning. GET A LIFE!!!!! The greatest TV series ever is back. And it's better than it's ever been. But all you want to do is nitpick and moan!! AAAAARRRRRGGGHGGHHHH!!!!!!!

Mark
The boxset does look flimsy. Can't we have a great slipcase with standard DVD cases inside, then it can fit with the classic releases.

Rob Morris
I've got to admit, the TARDIS box has rather disappointed me. Storage instantly is an issue as is the care of it. I wish they'd done something similar to the original Buffy releases - stylish, compact and classy (plus twice the number of episodes for the same price).

Jay Robert
Down Under in Oz we've just heard that the ABC will show the series. Hurrah! But no news on the docos or the confidentials .... so a DVD release would be much appreciated.

Rod L
How can Confidential not be on there? When I first heard of it, I immediately thought they were planning a DVD extra! Also, the packaging looks rubbish. That said, the series is excellent so of course I'll still get it!

Asif Quadri
What a foolish mistake not releasing Dr Who Confidential also.. you do realize these are available for download each week and will be circulated among fans at no charge!.. fine if you dont want my money to put back into the show and BBC I'll burn my own copy!

Stu
Great series so far (Eccleston and Piper make a great team) - shame about the DVDs. Cardboard - you're kidding? No DWC - you're kidding again, right? £70??? Fantastic? I don't think so! You do realize that's around the same price as a season of Trek containing twice as many episodes! Was looking forward to the boxset, but can't help feeling I'm being ripped off. Better be 5.1, that's all I can say.

Paul Fairclough
I personally think the Box Set DVD should have Confidential on them as this is a ready made extra. I have BBC3, but there are quite a lot of people who don't.

Morbius
The box is incorrect! It says 'the complete first series'. The first series was in 1963! This is the twenty seventh series for god's sake!

Fred
Cut the price by at least 10 quid and give me a box that is smaller and preferrably made of plastic and we have a deal. Something like the packaging for the first two seasons of "Blake's 7" only in plastic would be great.

John Bollan
I agree with everyone else! The Beeb will have to try really hard to justify not including Confidential on these discs.

Jeremy Jeffreys
Aren't you missing a trick Mr Jago? Lord of the Rings was released on DVD as a theatrical version first with extras on a 2nd DVD prior to the extended release with more and different extras and extra footage. Can't Doctor Who 2005 be released in a similar way with additional footage ie a 'directors cut' with the associated Confidential programmes as extras on a 2nd DVD (That's just another 3 x 30 minutes for episodes 1-3). Room for plenty of extras over say 4 disks? For every 3 episodes say. Just a thought Mr Jago.

Mercanos (Germany)
Hi, guess I go for that box then in the autumn, since that I have no idea, if they ever release it here in germany, I really think BBC should add subtitles for the other european fans. when I ask around here, hardly someone knows Doctor Who, but on ebay you see the real fans bidding high on DVD´s. I also agree Doctor Who Confidential should be on it ;-)

Gareth M
I think there is an overwhelming majority who want doctor who confidetial to be on the box set. So squeeze it in. Go on you know you want to. You could also charge a little extra, and get more money.

Mark
the box set looks rather flimsy, can't see many of those making it to the shops in one piece

david shackleton
i think having two copies of the new serires on dvd is a great idea because the younger generation might not like all the behind the scence however the major dr who fans will love it. i think that it would be great if the bbc could put on dr who confidential as that it is a part of dr who in its self.

Nigel
Like the idea of targetting the enthusiast and the more casual buyer. Do not especially like the special box set being an odd shape - you can’t really stack it with your other DVDs. If the packaging is going to be non-standard could you use that space for extra stuff - publicity photos etc. Always rather liked the Buffy type packaging - compact but stylish!

Andrew
Glad to see this series released as a box set. How about a release of the classic series in season box sets?

mark
New series is great. Enough of the old to keep fans (anal retentives) happy but enough of a new show to keep the casual viewer entranced. The dvd news is no surprise as the bbc has always cashed in on dr who fans love of the show trying to charge us twice for the same product is more of the same. I am sure dr who is the only show owned by the bbc which has more than paid for itself twice over with all the merchandising/licensing the bbc indulge in.

Mike Hickman
I absolutely agree with all the comments about Doctor Who Confidential. What a waste of a terrific series if it is not included on the DVDs. What are they thinking of? (BBC Video - you do realise people will just profit off the back of pirate copies for ever after if you DON'T release them, don't you? Just a thought...)

roger
will probably end up buying both versions, but please include doctor who confidential.

Jon Mills
I would very much like to see Dr Who confidential on the dvd, we can't get the extra channels where we live in rural Wales, very much looking forward to all the other extras as well.

Johnny Bouy
If Dr Who Confidential was released on the box set - there'd be no room for any other extras (It runs to 7 hours!). It would make sense to whack it on the vanilla releases, but then I imagine it's down to rights issues as the show features a lot of clips of the old show. What is great news, is that we don't have to wait years for the DVD's.

Dave L
Any chance of having a removable inner case, as with the video boxsets, or a separate release of the "collector's" version in more practical packaging (in a compact slip-case like the Blake's Seven sets)? While a nice novelty, the tardis box is just too bulky to fit on my shelves, and a major deterent to buying something I'd otherwise go for in a flash.

JohnP
That boxset packaging looks awful. It's tacky and flimsy and will take up far too much space on my shelves for something with just five DVDs in. I seriously hope a redesign will be made as it is putting me off buying it.

Jonathan Kaye
As a long-time fan, I'm holding off for the big boxed set. As regards Confidential, I understand it won't be released because of the astronomical costs of clearing all the clips and (presumably) music as well.

Paul
Sensational, the new Who is comming to OZ, but no mention of Confidential. BBC would make a fortune in O/S sales if they release a COMPLETE box set. Does the BBC realise the extent of Who's fan base??

STEPHEN MC CORRISTON
Can't wait to see the series on a good quality screen, especially the lovely Billie Piper! Disappointed Doctor Who Confidential isn't included on the DVD, though.

Dave Farmbrough
I am looking forward to the later set of DVD releases, but is it really necessary to have such a huge special box? We like DVDs and boxed sets partly because they save space. If this set is as big as it looks, it should be big enough for the next five years' worth of new series!

Cyberman Dan
Glad to see the new series being released on DVD so soon. The Box Set looks very good and I hope that Doctor Who confidential is added to it. I look forward to seeing it released here in Australia :)

Peter
Ah the money grabbing special edition treatment! Give us a break and just release the definitive version straight of instead of squeezing more money out of people.

Anthony Gibbs
With the broadcast now announced for Australia, I am really looking forward to the DVD box set to show up down here around Christmas as well. Not so sure about the packaging tho, yes it looks neat, but with a growing collection of DVD's, something a bit more "space saving" would be nice. O' and like everyone else has said, please please include Confidential in the box set, its only one more DVD after all :)

Pierre
Box set looks fantastic. I will be waiting for it's Canadian release. Very sad to see Who Confidential is not going to be included though because it's not even being aired here. So I'll never get to see it? That's sad since it looks (from the web site) that a lot of hard work has gone into making it. Please change your minds and include it, so many fans would be glad of it.

mark antony
I think the BBC is takeing liberties with both long standing and new fans of Dr Who. Why should Dr Who fans pay twice we always pay more for dvds and videos one story of Dr who is 19.99 on dvd one season of Red Dwarf is only 15.99 including a disk full of extras so why should we pay more every time, as a license payer and a long standing DW fan I feel very harshly done by, my favorite show has only just come back on after 16 years and in all that time I like many others have kept the show alive through our fandom and the fact that we dont mind putting our hands in our pockets come on...cut us a little slack.....

Dave
Confidential should be released on DVD - here in Australia we won't get to see it otherwise.

Dave Rollings
Is it me or does this all still feel like a dream come true?

Richard Hall
Fabulous Doctor who on dvd, and we dont't have to wait years, not like in the old days, one or two videos a year,if we were lucky. but 13 complete episodes. stop complaning and enjoy.

Lloyd Ellis
As another person without digital, I was really expecting a release of Confidential in order for me to see the series about my favourite show... please say it is going to be released.. like Project Who? before the end of the year! We'd all buy it, honest! I just want to see it! Hope it comes to BBC1 or 2 soon... Please!

Bob Berrow
Want Doctor Who Confidential on DVD? Then write (don't email) to BBC Worldwide, stating (politely) that you would like it included. Do it now and it just might be in time to change their plans (I’d give up the TARDIS case for an extra disc or two to include it and A New Dimension – it is 7 hours worth!).

Simon
A great idea about having the tardis boxset! I've not seen Confidential yet as I don't have digital so fingers crossed it'll be included! Just one request, please can you keep the DVD covers the same for the 'classic series'. Please don't put the new logo on them!!! wonderful though it is, it would make the 20 odd DVD's already out look rather out of place on my shelf. Yes I know, how sad...

Lee
WHAT??? No "Doctor Who Confidential"??? Are you mad? It's GOT to be included...especially for those of us Stateside-bound fans of the series who probably won't get to see the 9th Doctor anytime soon. PLEASE reconsider!

Sally
Why is Confidential not being included in the boxed set? It seems such an obvious choice for inclusion. Is there a logistical reason (e.g. rights for the film clips) or is it just a plot to make us all get BBC3 (OK I admit it, I have already succumbed)!

Stuart
I suspect the issue with Confidential is to do with the rights for clips. Many of them have feature actors and whatnot and if you include them, you'd need to have give them seperate payments and whatnot, driving up the price of the set even more (Play.com are listing the rrp at £70). A think the relevant behind the scenes material and the essence of that will be there, the just the material about the old series will be missing. Which is perfectly understandable actually.

Justin Thomas
The BBC has put some thought into the new series DVD format and come up trumps. I love the idea of both the individual titles and the boxset - remember not everyone likes the special feature format as US studios have just proved with the vanilla and extra filled releases of Day After Tomorrow etc, both versions of which sold by the bucketfold. And what a year for DVD for Who fans - the new series, Horror of Fang Rock, the Mind Robber, the Claws of Axos and still to come, City of Death and 2 (possibly 3?) more titles before the end of the year!! We've never had it so good! I'm loving it.

David Sugden
I see the boxed set will have a PG certificate. I hope this doesn't mean cuts being made to episodes in order to satisfy the sometimes inexplicable requirements of the BBFC.

Stephen
Every single person who "can't get BBC3" must have internet access to post here. So you could watch Confidential on-line any time. I would still like a nice shiny DVD to hold though ;-)

Zac
Make Doctor Who Confidential a seperate DVD release. its 13x 30mins and deserves it on its own, (with a nice cover) good idea re no-frills and boxset. i'll hang on til Nov (23rd?), thou!

Darren
Great about the new series coming out twice on DVD, but what about the original series, why have the releases been suspended until November? Is this going to be like 10 years ago, where the video releases were suspended and then came back months later, completely redesigned so the new releases wouldn't match the old? I've noticed all the current released stories are now on sale or special offer in my local shops. Future re-releases with new packaging to match future packaging?

james Alexander
For a RRP of £70, I think most poeple would expect the Confidential to be included the boxset, at the very least!

cy
I hope that packaging is stronger than it looks. it looks like origami

Steven
DW Confidential has got to be included on the boxset. I see no reason why it shouldn't and would make the set even more worth while.

Steve Watts
I myself will buy both versions of the DVD. You cannot have aenough of a good thing. I'm sure the extras alone will be worth it, it is after all a trip of a lifetime!

Jack
Clever box set, although im surprised it doesnt go with the usual covers that are used for the 63-96 doctor who DVDs

David J
Is it just me that thinks the box set would look a lot nicer as just a plain tardis without Chris, Billie and the logo on it, or perhaps that could be a removable option, just my opinion of course, other than that with the release of City Of Death around the same time Autumn should be pretty exciting on the DVD front

MICK BOULDEN
Well i'll be saving for the boxed set but like others have said, ill probably get the no frills discs too! BIG BIG SHAME ABOUT DOCTOR WHO CONFIDENTIAL! Why not indeed stick them on the individual releases? Might help convert the casual viewer to an out right fan!

Nick Oborski
Congratulations on moving so fast to bring Dr Who out on DVD for a new audience. As a fan I'll wait for the box set. Please bring out the Dr Who Confidential as some of us cannot get sky or freeview.

Richard Gregory
I like the boxset very much and will certainly be waiting for that rather than the vanilla releases, but that internal packaging looks like it could be a problem, particularly for sets bought by mail order. I've had a lot of bad experiences with DVD's that come in fancy boxes. I think that the discs should come in standard DVD cases, which could be supplied in a fancy outer box. Much safer.

Roy Walker
Everyone who's moaning about not being able to see Confidential: It's on the internet! On this site! The whole program is available to view for a week after it airs. Failing that - just get freeview - it's VERY cheap. And the bloke complaining about not being able to change channels on his video - program the damn thing! Stop complaining people - and sort yourselves out. Nice boxset - but I'd prefer it if it was more than a flat cardboard box with pictures on. Even without DWC - it sounds like the extras (Russel T Davies' behind the scenes footage, commentaries etc) should be great.

Stuart C
Fantastic that the release is so early. It seems to be delaying the classic series release though!! Dr Who confidential must be included in one of the releases. Also the preview programme and mastermind?? Looking forward to it all - a great series.

DrX
I want the boxset for the extras, but that packaging is pretty vile and bulky. Ho hum, can't have everything I suppose.

Tim Lawrred
Pictures of the Tardis box-set look impressive, nice touch to incorporate the 'interior' look for the inside packaging. Dear Santa hopefully the Christmas special can be released as a stand-alone disc with it's 'behind-the-scenes Christmas episode special' extras, a free sonic screwdriver a 'Talking Rose' figure.......& maybe even DW Confidential squeeeeezed in?

Alex
I think the boxset looks great. I think it will do justice to the amazing new series! I hope DW Confidential will be included though as have been really enjoying that too. I think all the other fans will agree with me.

Stuart Bruce
So the Tardis-shaped box set will be released "in the Autumn". Given the current state of British weather, that could be any time between July and next Easter. How long will I have to resist buying the vanilla versions, before the 'proper' (box set) is available? Thanks

craig
The season box set is a great idea, and very welcome i shall be buying as soon as it come out. The only problem with it is it looks very cheap and 'cardboardy' and probably won't last in prestine condition on shop shelves if it is. couldn't we have a tin set like the videos came in?

Trevor
Is it just me, or would it be cooler if the box said `Series 27`? It'd be cooler.

Tim
How original: a TARDIS shaped gift set. What happens when seasons 2, 3 & 4 come out then? No one will want a shelving unit full of TARDIS's will they! So next tear you'll probably have to redesign the season sets; Which meens that right from from the off, we are not going to have properly contiguous season sets on our shelves. AAARG! Analy retentive I know, but it's just so damn infuriating. Can't you just use decent, slimline box sets for our seasons and use and the TARDIS box for easter eggs. Now a TARDIS egg.... Yum yummmm.

connor
im gald the new series is being realesed on boxset. however im dissapointed to hear it wont have dr who confidential.

Tony
Where's the logic in producing little "confidential" shows that old-fashioned terrestrials like me can't see, and then not putting them on the swanky, frilly version of the DVDs? Confidential please, or I'll save my dosh and go no-frills!

Mark Landy
I dare say most of the DW Confidential stuff will be used to make up other documentaries.

Lee Jones, Clevedon, Bristol
The new series of Doctor Who is already a classic in my mind. Billie Piper's Rose is awesome! And 'The End of the World' is my favourite Dr. Who episode of all time. Well Done Russell. Like a hyperactive kid at christmas, I am immensely looking forward to the box set. Now BBC, if only you could release season box sets of the old series. The way things are going, the old back catalogue of Dr. Who DVDs will probably be released by 2050!!!!!!!

Matt Trinder
Please put Dr Who Confidental in the new series boxset, i don't have BBC 3 at uni, only at home and so will miss most of them, i really want to see them! Equally, i would buy it if it was released seperately, either way, please get it out somehow!

Doug McKerracher
Paul: The BBC *are* doing a boxed set. Mark: I'm a fan and I'll only be getting one copy, the boxed set. The BBC isn't making anybody do anything. I'm all for this method of doing things, although I'd hoped the boxed set would literally be TARDIS shaped rather than just a printed oblong.

Kevin Cupit
How can the BBC price the "vanilla" DVD's at such a price. How is £15.99 affordable, what about your new younger viewers, don't rip them off. Many blockbusters are released with numerous extras & they are priced the same, sometimes even lower. As for Confidential, surely that deserves being released even on its own

Karen
So glad to see the boxset, and I like the idea of the inidividual DVDs. I'll be buying the boxset, but I'm amongst the disappointed with regards to the lack of Confidential on DVD. Hopefully this will be released at some stage - I missed the 2nd one, and although I saw it online it's just not the same.

James Mathews
Its nice to see a special release for us die hard dr who fans! but cant it look like our other dvd's? it would fit more nicly with mine/other die hard fans dvd collection, if it looked like the other dvd's

Chris Hunter
FIRST SERIES? I sure there has been one before, must be more like 27th!

Alistair
"The complete first series"? Shouldn't it have a picture of William Hartnell on the box set then?

Kristian Mears
Please include Dr Who confidential as we posted overseas wont see it at all. Also why are the old stories not released in seasons?

John - Washington
Unfortunately I don't have BBC 3 so have never seen DR Who Confidentail but would love it on DVD if possible !!! I'm really loving the New Series, the Visual Effects are Excellent

The Valeyard
Doctor Who fans are meant to be clever. Why is the spelling so bad on here?

Owen Dunn
The box set image on play.com looks unwieldy and unpleasant. Why not have the cardboard TARDIS outer box with normal DVD cases inside rather than a flappy cardboard arrangement which will fray and fall apart after about a week?

Will
Look forward to it - but please add the confidential series to the box set or as a stand alone product for purchase

Frank Mills
Without the Confidential stuff I'm not sure of the point of the box set. I assumed the documentarys were going to be the mainstay of the extras. I'll probably just pick up the vanilla releases when they are in the £4.99 bargin bin next year.

Anthony Williams
What a good idea to release DVD's of Doctor Who shortly after transmission. My video tapes will be worn out by then anyway! But I do hope DW Confidential WILL be available as part of, or at the same time as, the boxset in the Autumn!

23-6-801
I understand that we're looking at something like 6.5hrs of 'DW:Confidential' material, and thats not something you can just pop on as an extra, but it would be great to get its own release. Perhaps in a limited edition run?

Mike
As a long term Dr Who fan from the very beginning I'm very pleased to see it back. I've heard lots of good things about 'Confidential' but for various reasons I can't get digital where I live so have never been able to see it. Also, as I only have a very slow dial-up connection to the Web, watching anything online is very slow and frustrating so I don't bother. Please reconsider and put 'Confidential' on the DVD's. Thanks.

M
Definitely need Doctor Who Confidential bundled in the SE box set.

Vagon Lares
For those of us long time fans trapped in the US, I hope the DVD's come out here soon too, with lots of extras. Can't wait!

Michael Ferrier
Fantastic! The wait will be tough but I'm holding out for the complete set. In fact - why not publish each season of the old Who as a boxed set as well?

Andy Hardstaffe
It would be a huge disappointment if "Doctor Who Confidential" is not included in the Box Set release of the new series. I hope the DVD producers are reading this page and will take note of the overwhelming demand for these documentaries to be included, and change their minds about it. If they don't include them, I think the box set will be a lot less attractive to many fans than it would be with them. Go on BBC Worldwide, include the "Confidential" series in the box set - it will add value to the collection as a whole, and enable those who otherwise cannot to see these programmes.

Sunrise
Pull you're finger out BBC and get more of the Tom Baker classics released before just cashing in on something thats just been aired!!!

bbp
I'm not completly sure what Doctor Who Confidential is about but I've waited 16 years for the BBC to finally bring the Doctor back and I certainly don't want to wait any longer than necessary to have a chance to see "confidential" and find out what it's all about. By the way, if this just a clever marketing way of trying to get me to pay for BBC3 think again, as soon as the Doctor's credit's role on BBC1 I'm straight out the door for work, so I won't get a chance to see it otherwise. YOU (the BBC) have always known that Doctor Who has always been one of your biggest money makers but maybe instead of cashing in on it you should do the right thing by the many followers who have been waiting years for this.

John Pettigrew
Even as a seperate release, we want Doctor Who Confidential on DVD! Please reconsider the box set package including them.

Jeremy Williams
I think everybody has made it abundantly clear BBC...Doctor Who Confidential HAS to be included! Nearly every post mentions it, but will BBC Worldwide listen...i doubt it!

Jonny
What a brilliant idea! A TARDIS shaped boxset! Something to match my 'Trial Of A Timelord' set. One for show, One for Sunday best!

Simon Amsterdam
Really, a TARDIS shaped DVD Boxset, now how will that fit in to my DVD shelf next to the Xfiles? I hope it's not too big otherwise I have to toss out all those Lord of the Rings sets (thank god) Yeah lets make some room for Dr Who ;)

Grant
I am usually a sucker for buying the "Special Editions", however if Dr Who Confidential is not on the Tardis box set I may as well save my money and buy the "no-frills" version. I don't have BBC3, have only dial-up net access at home and at work my PC doesn't have Real Player so I have so far been unable to watch DWC. It is nice however to be told up front that there will be a standard and a collectors release, so fans can make the choice up front.

Barry
To those that are complaining about having to buy the same thing twice...why are you going to, then? The BBC aren't going to force you to do it, you know. You won't miss *anything* by just waiting for the boxset, and not getting the vanilla releases (tape them from the telly in the meantime!). There is a personal choice involved here. Sheesh.

Kurt
Will they only be released as Region 2 (Europe) DVDs? When can we expect to see them in Canada?

Jamie
Please release Confidential as an extra on the DVDs!

Kat
That would be awesome! Wandering into HMV, and suddenly seeing this TARDIS sitting there. =D I want one! Pity we have to wait until Autumn.

Neil in Germany
Living in Germany and not having access to a video, while knowing that Doctor is on telly in Blighty is an absolute torture, so the DVD news is amazing. I'll be waiting for the box-set. PLEASE put DWC on it.

Jonathan
oh my god, what a bunch of drama queens you lot are! You don't have to buy the discs and the BBC have been quite honest with their release plans. Grow up - it's only TV!!

James
Man..how good it this a new series box set,and it's Tardis shaped. What are the bbc thinking about the no show of dr who confidential on the box set, since i am in australia it is doubtful i will see confidential(i aint even seen the story of dr who yet!) so please, please release it on the set as its going to be big and stuffed with extras ,13 halfhour episodes wouldn't be that much to put on it!

Nick Butler
New Series DVD's already, wow!I gotta wait for the box set though. Come on BBC, you've got to put the 'Confidential'on there somewhere. Thats what us fans want, besides once they're on DVD you can record over the original tapes, sorted!

Sam
Great idea for early gradual release. But big zero for not including DW confidential. They go with each episode and should be released with each. I presume they will all be included in box set?????

Aral
The same point: A number of people do not have DTT. Given the (relatively low) cost of storage, please put DWC on the discs!

ROBOT
Attention Ludites, Digi boxes can be picked up for about £20 now. Much cheaper than the DVD box set will be.

Darren Allwright
Cool! That the BBC will release the series on DVD and not leave it untill 2006. I hope it will be value for money with the extras as well.

Daniel Burrows
I think Doctor who is great.

Jason
I think that the common consensus is that Dr Who Confindential does indeed need to be included within the box set. Can't really understand the logic for leaving it out. The new Dr Who is a great series and so is Dr Who Confidential.

Jim Trenowden
If the issue over releasing Confidential is that there is no space on the box set, why not release it in a special box set with the Christmas Special when released?

jeff
Great news about the two formats of DVD. How nice of the BBC to tell fans well in advance that there will be a "special edition" collectors box set later in the year. Too many times DVDs or even CDs are released in one form and once all the fans have bought that, it's announced that there will be a better version with extras. Full marks to the BBC for giving fans the choice well in advance. As for the Confidential series, it's only about £40 for a digi box so it would cost less than the DVDs anyway!

Tristan Alfaro
Looking forward to the box set release later this year but I'm disappointed Confidential will be omitted. Hopefully this decision will be reversed. Plenty of today's radio news coverage has been given to the announcement that the Australian Broadcasting Corporation will screen the new series in May. Wonderful news!

Lee Petty
16 quid for 3 episodes and no extras? Hardly a bargain, is it? I suppose the BBC have to supplement the licence fee somehow...

Nick
May 16th? That's quite quick for a series to be released onto DVD. It's all cool, though I'll be waiting for the big box setmost definately. Wow, May, I still can't believe it!

Reg Vascombe
I am going to buy the vanilla DVDs only as I do not believe special features are necessary. I do think the BBC should consider releasing series sets of the classic shows instead of doing single episodes.

Steve Kinge
Will the spines of the new DVDs match the existing Dr. Who range?

Matthew Smith
The 1st volume boxset looks new and fresh. Great special features, cheap and has the first amazing three episodes.

sedge
Glad that a box set is coming out in the form of a tardis, but will still have to buy each dvd as well. Will to confidential be on the box set dvds?

Joe
Could someone at the BBC at least give an explanation as to why 'Confidential' won't be in the Box Set? As someone from a different show would put it: "Most illogical!"

Chris Bale
Why is everyone whinging about not getting extras, trailers and confidential & what not on these DVDs? - being a die hard fan I'm grateful the series is actually getting released on DVD THIS year and not NEXT YEAR!!! In fact I'm just grateful the BBC brought Doctor Who back period!!!

Graham Hills
Call me old fashioned if you like, but is there ANY chance of the Series being released on VHS as well?

Andy
I have got to admit I was impressed both with the series and with Doctor Who Confidential. Surely it makes sense to charge a little more and add it onto the series boxset rather than trying to sell it seperately at a later dare especially now Ecclestone is finishing the role.

D. J. Kettlety
Great news that the DVDs will start to be released as early as May. Like many DW fans I guess I'll end up buying both versions. BUT, and I'm on my knees as I type this, please, please can we have Confidential as well.

Neil Donaldson
It's hard to believe a browse round HMV will result in seeing 'Doctor Who - The Complete First Seies' glossy DVD boxset. Very surreal indeed.

Stuart, Newcastle
What a sensible idea - release cheaper DVDs for casual and younger viewers at a cheaper price but also a box set full of extras and (we're such suckers for gimmicks!) in a TARDIS shaped box for fans! This is similar to the BBC releasing entire series of Red Dwarf "Just the shows" without frills for those who dont like additional features. My only negative comment would be that Dr Who Confidential should definitely be included as it is such an interesting behind the scenes show. Please let us have it included BBC!

Brian
Great News about the boxset in the autumn. Very disappointed about the omission of Doctor Who Confidential. Not everybody has access to Digital TV so many will miss out on a great series. In fact it seems a complete waste of the medium of DVD to ignore Confidential and is 2 fingers up to millions of Doctor Who fans.

Paul
Why isnt the BBC releasing the new Doctor Who DVD's in a box set like it did with Blakes 7 or has been done with 24, Buffy etc. I wont be buying them in the format their being released in.

Steve Corke
Being a serious collector, I think I shall hang on for the box set, however, I shall probably buy both releases when I see them on the shelf!!!

Dave King
Hope DW Confidential WILL be included in the season box set or be given a seperate release as it's a good show.

mark
what a con to make fans buy two copies.

E.Jones
Sureley it would be better to release the DVD's with Dr.Who Confidentail atached to each episode (as withthe current transmission) As each one seems to be significant to the episode just shown it would be an ideal extra feature. Of course the BBC could release Dr.Who Confidential as a second dvd box set and make some more money from consumers - but that would be a mad idea would it not!!

finn rawlings
i love dr who. i am 5 years old. i want to watch the dvd's when they come out . my favourite monster is the Moxx of Balhoon, bring him back in the new series.and i would like to see how dr who is made on the dvd. please.

Philip
Thank you for being honest with the public over your plans for the DVD releases. It avoids later disappointment :-). That said, please try to get Doctor Who Confidential included on the collector pack as it does form part of the whole of season 1 and isn't really a standalone item.

Gordon Pittendrigh
The plan to release the Doctor Who DVD's without Dr Who confidential is profoundly disappointing to us who do not have BBC 3.

Steve Else
Dr Who Confidential MUST be released! What would be the point of leaving it to languish in the archives?

Daniel Billing
It would be a shame to not release Doctor Who Confidential as a DVD special feature with the episodes. I appreciate that they are being streamed from the website, but not everyone has internet access, or even digital television. The BBC are missing out on a potential audience here, let alone international interest in the programme.

Mark Jobson
Please consider releasing Doctor Who Confidential on DVD even as a completely separate release. We don't all have BBC3 you know.

Phil Allely
The new series has been to date a wonderful experience, not only for myself as a avid fan, but for my wife who up to the first episode Ros ehad never seen a previous Doctor in action. Her enthusiams and insitance to watch should give the producers of this series the knowledge that they have succeeded in not only gaining the acceptance of die hard fans, but the casual observer. the dvd releases are a great way of letting us relive the long-awaited series at our leisure.

Mike
Thanks for letting us know there'll be two different releases.

Gary
The boxed set is already on my Christmas list. It would be a shame if Doctor Who Confidential was not included.

Robert Cyberman
Doctor Who Confidential needs a DVD release, even if it is only for the benefit of fans outside the UK. Watching the whole sho in Real Player format on the web is quite annoying

David Finn
Great that you the DVD's are being released so soon but what a meanie - no extra's - everyone knows that you get extra's on DVD's - even if it's only a trailer! Come on BBC - no frills doesn't wash. Be kind and give us something more - DVD's aren't cheap. Also, Dr Who Confidential - please release these on the big box set. Not all of us have digital. Thank you BBC.

Marco
I couldn't be happier. Not only have we a whole new series (and a christmas special and second series in the pipeline) but now we wont have to wait 5 billion years for the DVD releases!!! As a die hard fan, I will be waiting for the Tardis box-set, but even the "vanilla" disks would be worth a purchase... Thanks Auntie Beeb!

Silentshot
Thats great. I look forward to the special editions. Give us a release date.

Rupert Jones
Can't wait for the series to air, I know that somehow I will get to see them all and buy the DVD's when they come out. What about the music, the new title theme is brilliant, when can we get out mits on that? Can someone please talk some sense into Christopher Eccelston about leaving! He is the best of the Doctors. Can't wait to find out what happened to Gallifrey, my fears over Billy Piper are unfounded, what a great team they make. It may have been a long wait for the new series, but it was more than worth it.

Declan
Good news about the complete series discs but what about those outside UK that don't get to see Confidential? or the special on earlier that first Saturday night

Jim Masfick
I'm glad because we can't get the New Series of Doctor Who in Australia, so it's a relief to be able to see it on DVD.

Mark Hadlund
Will there be a US release soon? No one here has purchased the broadcast rights.

Paul B.
A two tiered DVD (a la Lord of the Rings) is a good idea. However even the standard Rings DVD for the casual fans had extras on. In todays market DVDs must have some extras, otherwise the general public wont buy them. How about adding at least the confidential to the standard DVD's. And some trailer or advert for the box set.

Kaotician
I'd like a release of Confidential too, please......perhaps in a box set with the Christmas Special?

Renee
Are there any plans to issue the DVDs in the USA? Please say yes!

Sir Didymus
If Confidential is left off, can we please have it released in its own right? As a big Simon Pegg fan, as well as a longstanding Whovian - its a must have, but I have to put up with the webcasts for now!

Peter Thomas
I think it's a crime that rthe documentaries will not be added to the Boxset DVD's. Something went wrong and I did not get the 2nd Doctor Who Confidential. As I previously said to you in an email, We pay a licence fee. Why can't DWC be on BBC1 at 7.45. I work in the theatre and therefor can not change channels on my Video. Do you seriously expect me to take 13 Saturdays off to make sure Doctor Who & DWC tapes. I DON'T THINK SO

David Bowie
Thouroughly enjoying the dose of the 21st century Who and looking forward to the rest of the very eventful series (in front of, and behind the cameras), and can't wait for the TARDIS boxset later on this year...

Amacca
Rip off Britain again. Why not one release with all the extras? Surely the casual viewer wouldn't object to having the extras on the disc anyway? So Why not one release which serves both purposes?

Steve Freight
Seems that die hard fans will be buying twice then (or 3 times when "confidential" gets added to the "Ultimate Doctor Who Collection).

Wayne Fawcett
There will be complaints from casual buyers about the lack of extras on the 4 initial DVDs, everyone is so used to them, that it's become the norm. Why not release Dr Who Confidentual on them? And maybe us fans will buy them and the box set too? Ooops.

Ian Wheeler
Looking forward to seeing the DVDs as the TV reception in my rea is rubbish!

Keith
Shame that the Doctor Who Confidential won't be on the discs as these are perfect companions to include with the episodes. Anyway, I am now looking forward to the TARDIS shaped box-set as my Trial of a Time Lord tin is really showing its age!

Stifyn Baker
So, a casual viewer's going to buy a "no frills" release, eh? I wouldn't, unless it was in the £5 - £8 bracket. DVD's with no extras? No thanks.

Dean G T Roberts
Couldn't we have a special "Billie Piper-shaped" DVD boxset?!!!

Robert Gerlach
As the U.S. does not a network that would like to air the new show, I hope the DVD's released this Autumn will also include the Region 1 DVDs for your american cousins.

Darren Briscoe
I really hope that Dr Who Confidential WILL be released as it is an excellent companion to the series!

Peter Trengove
I think you should release DW Confidential as I think they're really great. However, I'm just as grateful that WHO is back and will be released in a TARDIS-shaped box set in Autumn more than anything. Shall make a good Xmas pressy for me.

Dave Phillips
Delighted to read that a collectors edition box set will be available, but please please consider releasing Doctor Who Confidential as well. Itmay come as a shock to some at the BBC, but not everyone has access to the BBC digital channels !

alex
Given that Doctor Who Confidential was made to follow on from each episode, surely it only works as DVD extras for series releases. Anything else just wouldn't be cricket.

Peter
That's wonderful news!! I shall be buying both the basic DVDs and also the box set and greatly look forward to them!! Please do release Dr Who Confidential though, either as part of the box set or as a stand-alone DVD release, perhaps along with the Christmas special episode. Thank you for making these available.

Suresh Kumar
Point 1. Great news! Point 2. Box Set SHOULD contain Doctor Who Confidential! Point 3. When can we see boxsets of previous Doctor Who seasons? Point 4. Why is it taking so long releasing the backcatalogue on DVD? Point 5. Look at Buffy, Star Trek, X-Files boxsets... you need to compete with that.

Mark Edwards
Dr Who Confidential deserves to be included in the DVD box set in November: it's fantastic

Stephen Hall
It's NOT FAIR !! What about all the fans or general public on a low wage or unemployed who still can't afford to go digital and enjoy Doctor Who Confidential? The BBC could please at least consider repeating the show on BBC1 or BBC2 or even after talks add them to future DVD releases! ? ! I Love the New Doctor Who series :-) Though as the good Doctor has said in recent broadcast of The End of the World: It all comes down to money ! :-( Best wishes and Thank You to ALL the Cast,Crew and Production Team. Steve x South London Outpost Gallifrey Member: Fenricwolf

James
It's nice to see some attention to Dr Who DVD's, but the set is the only one worth considering. The main problem with Dr Who DVDs is that the BBC is not getting down to work and releasing more of the earlier seasons and what they release of the "lost/damaged" episodes is lower quality than the reconstructions I have seen. Dr Who has a great following and the BBC should be doing all it can to release high quality DVDs of the earlier seasons, pumping out a few full seasons per year.

Toby Durkin
I'm so glad that BBC DVD are releasing the new DVD's so soon, I really like what I've seen so far! Whilst watching the first epsiode I felt like I'd travelled back in time myself to about age 6 as I was mesmerized by it; Russel T Davies has done a marvellous job of keeping with the old traditions whilst adding some new ones!

Arron
Please put Doctor Who Confidential on the DVD's. It's an amazing oversight if you don't.

Adam
TARDIS shaped box set with lots of extras...that really is music to my ears.

John A Collins
Wouldn't it make sense now to hold off the release of the box set until after Chris Eccleston's xmas swan song? That way we'd have the complete 9th Doctor. And what a shame Confidential won't be included! Please reconsider?

DAZ
they must do dr who confidential in the box set as the series is a good companion to the show. or do it as a separate 2disc set. im sure fans who'll buy the box set wouldnt mind paying that little bit extra if its included.

Colin Yates
Good news for fans & casual viewers alike. However, the Confidential series should be included on the series box set.

L.J Dowell
Glad to see the DVD`s will be out sooner rather than later, the release as a split season seems a little cheeky, were only paying for this once BBC, it aint Star Wars, just release the series as a whole and dont bother with the Stargatesque money grabbing route of single releases and season releases.

Rosie
My sister was so excited about these DVDs. It's just good news for her that it is being released just before her birthday.

Duncan
What do you mean "there are currently no plans to release Doctor Who Confidential on these DVDs"? It's perfect for DVD, surely to goodness.

Ayyub Maadani
Well,I've been looking for this for a long time. I'm going to get that boxset.I probably won't miss an episode though but I'd like to watch the end of the world one again.

James Tucker
Glad to hear the new series is coming out on disc so soon, with (fingers crossed)any/all pre-title sequences & post-endcredit teaser sequences added onto individual episodes (as per ep. 2 transmission). Hopefully the Tardis shaped box-set will also contain all the new BBC Dr Who trailers (which incidentally should actually be listed in the Radio Times so that we know when to set our video recorders during the day - am I sad or what?) All the best, JT

Paul McConnell
Let's hope for a 5.1 surround sound on the DVDs.

Jaime Quesada
Soy de Costa Rica, tengo 350 episodios Del Doctor Who , me gustaria comprar los nuevos 13 episodios, lo mejor del mundo lo produce y nos los regala la BBC .\ Gracias ...

Phil
No Confidential on DVD? No hope for me then - they're not subtitled and I can't hear 'em! Cheers Auntie.

mark
great news, but as one of the many people who cannot see doctor who confidential,i think a dvd release at some point would be a must.

Neil Francis
Delighted as I am that a box set is to follow the initial 'vanilla' DVD release of the superb series I am disheartened that it will not contain Confidential. I do not have access to BBC3 and was looking forward to being able to see these apparently facinating additions.

Gareth
Sounds great! I'll be skint come November thanks to Dr Who :-) Confidential. Surely you could squeeze it on with everything else over 5-6 disks? Go on! You know you want to!
