City of Death

City of Death

We'll always have Paris on DVD.

BBC Worldwide have announced that the classic Fourth Doctor adventure City of Death is planned for release in November 2005.

For one of the DVD's special features, Tom Baker is in talks to shoot a mini documentary on location in Paris, using the same locations from over 25 years ago.

City of Death was voted second in a poll of stories fans most wanted on DVD, and is also Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner's favourite adventure.

Send us your comment now. We'll publish the best on this page.

A major contender for funniest Doctor Who story. Romana is at her peak as the intellegent companion, and Tom Baker looks like he's been the Doctor all his life. How about some Pertwee and McCoy on DVD now? Maybe even Trial of a Time Lord?

Mark Venables
Tom baker and Lalla Ward running around Paris!the production crew certainly bring style to thisadventure!and the closing shot of Tom and Lalla and Duggan waving goodbye is superb,so scenic!

hal
i am 12 and i have a 'particular fondness' (earthshock) for doctor who. the second dvd i brought was city of death .i liked it so much i brought the scarf!

tony holt
city of death is one of my favourite stories.i like duggan thinking with his fists.romana is great in her school uniform and tom is just tom.and julian glover is just menacing

Phillip graingers
This DVD is full of great special feachers. The comontary give was very insignful from an on stage perspetive and an off stage perspetive. I learned a great deal more about the wrighting prosses . Overall one of the best DVD reales

Ben
Wow! A great story with the best extras ever - Eye on Blatchford is very funny even though I don't know when it was made, why it was made, and who it was made by. City Of Death would be an ideal one for new fans, as this is an excellent adventure only delayed by a few wobbly sets and eye holes in masks.

Ali B
I got it on DVD for Christmas and couldn't wait to watch it after hearing sooo much about it over the years. It didn't disappoint and is classic Who. All the family watched it with me on Christmas night, not one escapee among them. Keep releasing them BBC, each one is a treasure and sends me to a whole other world.

Ross
I think this is the best episode of the Tom Baker years. Please get K-9 on DVD!

Alice T. Robot
worth it just for Vicky & Colin in 'Eye on Blatchford'...

gallifrey girl
So thrilled this has been released on DVD. It is my all time fave Tom Baker story. Add some classic Douglas Adams. Class. And who could resist on a trip to the Eiffel Tower :"Shall we walk or fly?" How could peeps not like this classy tale?

Joseph
Great story, refreshing to have location shots as opposed to wooden studio props. I am 24 at the moment, and at the current release rate I will be at least 35 before my collection is complete. Erm 1 release per month? Please.

David Vale
City of Death is Tom Baker and Douglas Adams at their very best. Crisp and witty dialogue, an inteligent and inventive story and a supremely manipulative and mealevolent baddie.Julian Glover has to be the only person I can think of that has appeared with two Doctors, Indiana Jones and Darth Vader.

Claire Andersen
City of Death is not only an excellent Doctor Who story it is also a fantastic piece of television history. There's something for everyone - witty dialogue, an intriguing plot, beautiful locations, uplifting music and strong characters. Overall it's just great family entertainment!

James Hadwen
Highly padded with a high level of self-importance... I really never have understood the appeal of this story. Everyone just comes across as being unpleasantly smug in it. And the cameos at the end just makes me cringe.

James
Cool story - still stands up today, apart from the wobbly wall!

Seb Sekinger
This is a great upbeat story, never fails to cheer me up, fantastically restored too, nice one restoration team!

Walter Johnson
A truely classic Who story. It had been a long time since I had first saw it and alot of the humour went over my head at that time. Great to get another chance to watch it again to really appreciate it. So many great Tom Baker stories left to release though and it takes so long. Here's hoping that "Seeds of Doom" will be the next story released on DVD.

Toby Durkin
I've just finished watching 'City of Death' and boy did it bring back memories of being scared half to death as a 10 year old! I loved the special features too including 'Eye on Blatchford' which features two internet friends of mine! All in all a great DVD and I'm looking for to more Tom Baker DVD releases, How about all of them! ;)

CyberScott
This has got to be the best DVD release yet, from the the wonderful story of course to the joy of seeing behind the scenes and the many other extras. But the crowning glory for me was the unusual presentation of the audio commentary featuring guest actors and the director only, no regulars. This allowed for a different view of events which was quite new and interesting, rather than the same old anecdotes we would have got from Tom Baker & Lalla Ward. This release of my favourite story ever now means that all further DVDs cannot be bettered, but it's worth the sacrifice to have this on disc. Thank you.

Gerry Quinn
Best Doctor Who DVD release so far, Not only do you get a fantastic story, the Extras are fabulous. Loved the 'Paris in springtime' feature, a great insight into what made Douglas Adams tick. 10/10.

Sebastian Anorak
A beautiful, glorious classic; like sliding into a warm bath. I do wish people would stop complaining about getting the harder to find VHS's out on DVD. A Fury from the Deep DVD would be fun though (at about 2 minutes long)...

Steve Lilley
I feel that many people look on City of Death with such fondness is that it was the only bright spot in one of the very worst seasons that the series ever suffered. It's thoroughly enjoyable, albeit woefully over-rated. We must see Inferno, the Deadly Assassin & the War Games pronto!!

Andrew Patrick
The more Dr Who on DVD the better, but am i going blind? there seems to be no transmission date on the back cover like all the others.More DVDs next year.

sean byrne
city of death great but maybe each month the bbc should put 3 titles up for us to vote on and the one with the most votes is released on dvd

Andy H
City of death is certainly the strongest story in season 17. The episode 1 cliffhanger is excellent.I think there should definately be a DVD release next year which has the fab Liz Sladen in it. How about The Time Warrior, seeing as it was her first story.

Alistair Wallace
A great story with a great cast which has lasted well. From the extras it looks as though the same care and attention has been lavished on this as we have seen on recent DVDs - which means you don't grudge upgrading from the old VHS copy.

Season 17 Saddo
Wonderful. More Graham Williams stuff, please. And why hasn't the Key to Time season appeared yet?

Janet Hamilton
To the people who keep asking for season sets: please could you remember that we haven't all got huge disposable incomes and for us it is easier to buy individual releases as they come out than having to find a huge wodge of cash for a box set.

Stifyn Baker
Hands up all those who've stood in the garden opposite the tower and shouted, "Bye bye, Duggan!" No? Just me, then. Love this story, one of Douglas' best. What concepts! Shame he emasculated it for the, quite frankly, poor Dirk Gently novel. Bring on the Jaggaroth!

Rex Duis
I believe the Restoration Team have some part to play in the stories selected for DVD release.. I could be wrong.. but read the profiles on their site, covering the remastering of each story, and they may have a hand in the decisions. Personally I loved City of Death.. the witty banter.. and Julian Glover is absolutely superb... yes there are also a couple of poorer actors in it, and effects etc, but overall it's just plain fun. The decision to release it now I think is actually a timely one, since Douglas Adams recently died and his other 2 stories would be far less suitable for release at the moment... and Adams Hitchhikers movie has just come out too. So there will be some attention given to this man, and his previous work. A good time to see this release if you think about it. And yes.. I'd love to see Genesis too.. but I always felt that Ark in Space thru to Zygons could have been released as one package. I felt sad at the end of Ark wishing I could put on Sontaran Experiment and continue.. I do have the video I spose, but I buy these DVD's mainly for the special features, and remastered quality.

Stephen Nolan, Newfoundland
I was inspired to go to Paris after watching this just to get the same photos of the tower that Tom and Lala had. A fun show and the John Cleese cameo was a treat!

Sam Hickson
I cried my eyes out when this story finished on air, then i watched on, but thenm i cry a lot when Doctor wo is one: When city of death finished When Peri died in Mindwarp and when the show came to an end, in 1989

Sam
Of course, i'm far to young to remeber this episode when it was first aired, but, my fondest memory is, me, starting to wake up at 7am watching UKTV gold, this was the first episode i ever watched, of Doctor who, then i stopped, and started to watch the Peter Davison era when i watched the show, regretting missing the Tom Baker era after i saw the clips on this cool website

Nick Headley
And just what is wrong with the City Of Death? and season 17 come to that. This is the season that I see come closest to the new series and I love it. If I am correct (and I know I'll be told if I'm not) didn't City of Death get the highest ratimngs of any Doctor Who Story ever? Season 17 is cool, gone is the boring seriousness and in its place is a great comical show where you can see that all involved are enjoying themselves. Bring on The Horns Of Nimon I say. "Lord Niiiiimon."

Trevor Watson
Initially i did not like this story, but it has grown on me, would love to see the engineers sketch with Tom Baker & John Cleese, i remember watching a BBC engineers blooper video years ago (not on general release!), and there was plenty of clips of Tom Baker with Mary Tamm using seven letters words and being hideous to the camera crew, i know it wont be like that but it will still be interesting. Oh and why cant we have season box sets, just do what other companies do and only put the extras on the good stories, and leave the dud ones as vanilla releases, stick them in a cardboard sleeve, and leave the packaging the same, to keep costs down, and to please all the people who wish to have their set in a uniform state. When reading the reviews section of this web site, the comments are always about the potential of season sets, could the people who facilitate this site could they ask the guys in the DVD section why they do not do this, Thanks

JonnyB
well i just fell let down by the poor titles that are coming to dvd over the past year. i thought that the bbc was stoping that after puting the web planet on dvd but obviusly not. lets see more classics be put on dvd. we need some good ones like GENESIS OF THE DALEKS and THE KINGS DEMONS but most importantly, bring out more classic black and white adventures. one that i know would be a big hit would be THE INVASION!!!!!! pelase bbc, turn the bad luck around and give us some good storys to watch with loads of bonus material.

Matthew Hadley
good story in my opinion and the highest rated Doctor Who story ever I am looking forward to seeing it on DVD finding out whether they are going to show Tom Baker's featurette on paris.

Paul Delaney
One of the finest stories of Tom Bakers tenure as the Doctor, fast paced, tightly plotted with some first class special effects for its time, City of Death is a Doctor Who classic. From the opening sequence when Scaroth's ship explodes on prehistoric earth to the story builds pace as the Doctor & Romana discover not all is well in 20th Century earth. The tight plot of the story leaves no loose ends, the performances are excellent, but the main character of Scarlioni/Scaroth played by Julian Glover carries the whole story off, his excellent portryal of Scaroth is one of those classic who performances which oozes quality. Worthy of Purchase because it not only a classic, but for the great model shots, the spaghetti Scaroth, the quality performances, the tight script, John Cleese oh & yes Lalla Ward's costume!

Dave Chasteen
In defense of the BBC, if all of the so-called classics are released first, then what will we have to look forward to in the coming years... the End of the Universe Collection? Also, if they increase the number of DVDs per month, the number of featurettes and quality of the restoration will probably wane. They also seem to be choosing classic stories for release that might be entertaining along the same lines of the new series. "The Mind Robber", "The Leisure Hive", "The Claws of Axos" and "The City of Death" are some of the most surreal of the classics. They were probably chosen to attract fans of the new series, to the classic series. Save "Genesis" till last!

nick s
again the bbc take the micky we were ripped off for years with videos and now we are being trickle feed dvds city of death was a good story in a crap season however there are so many stories which would be better released and a lot worse bring on the dominators and terror of the autons now that would make christmas!!

Stephen
City of Death is an enjoyable romp. However, I wish the "classic series" would be released as series box sets (eg. series 1, 2, 25, 26, etc), rather than just indivisual stories.

John Huggins
It's an ok story to release, but there's soooo many more that would have done better... what's wrong with bringing out "Trial of a Time Lord" as a 3-DVD boxset like the Missing Years, Terror of the Zygons, Genesis of the Daleks, Death and Day or the Daleks... or even just "The Daleks"... ok ok ok... so there's a "Dalek" theme running here, but so what... they're all great storys and bound to prove popular sellers with both new and old Whovians

Paul Coleman
Its great to see more Tom Baker D.V.D's coming out. but i would still like to see either Genenis of the Daleks or failing that Destiny of the Daleks either way they have Tom Baker/ Daleks/ Davros all i require

JG
Infinitely better than most of the Eccleston stories - in fact all bar Rob Shermans excellent Dalek episode - the only bit I dont like is where Duggan takes out a polysterene brick wall. Otherwise very enjoyable. I wish other people had taken note of Tom's line 'you're a beuatiful woman probably' before they used a supposed influx of Artron energy or whatever as a second rate excuse for a crafty snog......

Jackie Tyler
I agree with Captain Jack. Why can't we have more dalek films out. please. they are theonly good movies in doctor who. get a move on. forget about all of the rest they are ridiculous. except the Cybermen

M. Waters
Definitely one of the best DOCTOR WHO's! I just wish the BBC would release all the episodes of the original show all at once. (dare to dream)

michael ickes
i'm a big fan of the series too i'd like to see more pertwee more mccoy and more colin baker stories on dvd as well i'd like to see the trial of the time lord on dvd the daemons and see survival on dvd too. These would be great picks as well.

Bird Meister
Genesis next! Please! You must! It's one of the strongest Who's ever made and stands up to all the usual scutiny of budgets and effects because of the incredible acting, story, music and DALEKS!!

Robert Paulson
Good choice of release on DVD. With HITHIKER'S GUIDE out now in the U.S. perhaps someone might discover the good Doctor with this one.

Andy w
At least we have to wait until november until the new and so called improved doctor who comes out on dvd. just out of curiostirt who likes it and who dont?

chuffski-noo
The music is lovely, and Paris looks great. The Doctor and Romana's lovey-dovey relationship irks me a bit. Fun, but over-rated.

Andrew Norris
I can't believe how many negative comments I've seen about this story. It's an out-and-out classic. Shame there's no Tom or Lalla on the commentary - either of them would have been nice.

Stephen Wallis
Not a bad story, some great dialogue and off the cuff remarks from Tom Baker. Paris is a bit underused I thought. I vote for War Games, Deadly Assassin and Planet of the Daleks

Nick Palmer
It would appear that people either love or hate this release, and I can see from a marketing point of view, this is why the BBC release their Dr Who DVDs so randomly. However, as somenoe else said, 6 releases per year means we will have to wait over a decade for them all to be released (and by that time DVDs will have probably been surpassed with yet another new format). So, come on Auntie Beeb, lets have some comeplete season box-sets otherwise we'll never catch up!!

Captain Jack
I think that we should all vote on the story we want on DVD, and then we will get some more classics on

Simon Ayers
Not a massive fan of this story, but it's quite enjoyable. I do think it's slightly overrated, though. I am, however, looking forward to the extras as the Restoration Team do such an excellent job with all their Doctor Who releases.

JWL
Reading through the comments, it seems apparent that many fans want to see various stories on DVD. Why not do an annual on-line vote of stories viewers would like to see released on DVD. I know magazines (DWM) and other sites do these votes, but they are the Official Dr Who Web-site. Wouldn't it make sense to ask the core buying public want they want? Just an idea....for my money I'd like to see more complete season box-sets. I don't want to have to wait 15 years for the stories to be realeased.

Joe Cassels
"Nobody can be as stupid as he semms..."

Nick Kirby
I have to agree with earlier comments that this is a strange choice for release - as it was released twice on BBC video (the last time, not long before the end of the run), with the only change being the packaging. Given the choice, I would much rather see THE TIME WARRIOR come out on DVD: there has, as yet, been no release from Pertwee's last season, and this is the only televised story not to have yet been released in an unedited format. Come on - let's have a decent remastered version that actually has title sequences at the start and end of all of the episodes!

Thomas Tyrrell
I haven't even watched Genesis of the Daleks. It's off UK Gold, and I can't be bothered to get the video. But I'm still going to get this, because it's incredible fun and a grand story. STOP COMPLAINING!

Iain mac Ailean
About the only positive comment which can be made about this story is that it was the best of Season 17, which was arguably the worst in the history in the series. The "Allo Allo" comparison is apt. I'm afraid I can't summon up any real enthusiasm for this release.

Brendan
Why not pluck out as much as possible of 'Fury from the Deep'? It would make a worthy addition to Doctor Who dvds.

Peter Oliver
Another great release on DVD but we want more!! Reduce the waiting time between releases (more than 6 classics per year please) or give us themed box sets like The Beginning (which I can't wait for). Come on 2 Entertain and BBC; listen to the fans: we want more!

Jeffrey-USA
Thank you for "City of Death" on DVD! Always liked the story. Also..Just watched New season-"End of the World" Very good emotional episode! The Timelords lost a War! No! The Doctor is the Last of the Timelords. Dont forget Romana is in E-Space!

trish edwards
city of death!FANTASTIC!!!now all you need to release is genesis of the daleks.PLEASE.

David Blanchard
Good to see City of Death being released, but how about Terror of the Zygons, Brain of Morbius, Seeds of Doom and Genesis of the Daleks? But please confine the Sylvester McCoy years to a black hole somewhere!

Fred Harrison
A suberb sory ...... the basis on what the new series is based upon, fun, scarey and brilliantly written!

Scott Fraser
Wonderful news, Julian Glover is one of England's finest actors and to see his brilliant banter with Tom Baker is a pure joy. Can we please have the Key to Time season not every one has multi regional DVD players.

Alexander Badger
As always we have the usual debate about what should be released first, which is a shame as many good stories get passed over for the endlessly released and repeated 'Genesis of the Daleks', 'The Deadly Assasin' etc. I love this story, and am glad to see its release to DVD. Anyone who cannot accept that then just get over it. And get back to your anorak.

mark carlisle
even though I will be religiously buying this release, I agree totally with a lot of the previous comments on the recent 'quality' of releases. There are many many great stories out there and complete ones at that which deserve the dvd treatment and better commercial success- Genesis, Hand of Fear(good to see Liz coming back!) etc.. please take HEED!

Jason (Bad Wolf )Marshall
How about releasing something like the Black Guardian Trilogy from 1983. would love to see the special features they'd put on those...

Chris C
Finally after some strange choices for release on DVD (Horror of Fang Rock, Claws of Axos), the BBC have finally chosen a worthwhile story for release. Although arguably, it would be better to see the likes of Genesis of the Daleks, Seeds of Doom, Deadly Assassin and the Key to Time season first, this will make a worthy addition to the growing collection of Classic Who on Dvd. Great dialogue, beautifully shot, perhaps by far the best of what was otherwise a pretty dire and silly season of the show.

Simon
Can't wait to buy it. I watched it only yesterday and it never fails to impress. Please, someone release The Invasion!!

East
Great choice for a DVD. This was the first Doctor Who story I ever saw on tv way back in 1982 and it hooked me completely on the series. I'm still watching today, 23 years later.

Slayguy86
Hurray!!! I've been waiting for this episode to be released on DVD for a long time now. Will most certainly be buying this.

Andy
While City of Death is a very very welcome release (Julian Glover is superb) I really want to purchase Genesis of the Daleks.Now. Come on BBC...obey!

Nigel Huband
Seeing as we're heading to Paris in Sep '05, we can't wait to watch this classic episode once again so that we'll know our way around!

Bob Acrey
City of Death on DVD! Exquisite. Absolutely exquisite. Think I'll treat myself to a glass of water - a double of course.

Kevin González
At last! One of the most famous episodes and most unknowns for the fans of other countrys. To see Tom Baker is always -always- a plaisure. Thanks from Spain!

Mark Todd
Two words sum up City of Death, 'Classic' and 'Fantastic'! As for the other popular releases, we will have to wait like we did for the VHS versions through the eighties and nineties. Tom Baker commentary plus interview will be (if it goes ahead) priceless and will justify the cost completely. More DVD Releases please. Two per month!

will collins
can't wait till november a great story, super villian, one of the best

Andy
Can't wait for this to come out, it is one of the best ever made!

John Kilby
I rewatched this recently, and was a bit bemused by the seemingly endless padding shots of the characters running around Paris. But this doesn't detract much from a fine story, with Baker's playful mood contrasting beautifully with Glover's ruthlessness. A good choice! But like others have said, more of the first three doctors please!

Philip English
Finally one of Toms greatest is going to be on dvd.l can't wait.

Nick Boardman
Fantastic! so many fine performances especiall Tom Chadburn who has to be the best extra never to travel in the TARDIS.

eddie reilly
Glad to see city of death on dvd...but aren't there some real classics that could be released? Genesis of the Daleks,Planet of the Daleks?...Here's a novel idea..how about the key to time box set..why have the yanks got it and not us?

John Myles
Good news. But I agree with others that the Key To Time box set and Genesis Of The Daleks should take priority.

Greg Shanley
Not surprised this is coming out on DVD because of its style and flair. How about Genesis or Deadly Assassin please?

Stuart D
I say, what a wonderful DVD, it looks so violent! I think I'll watch it over a well I will have a drink now you come to mention it! Perhaps one of the more "accessible" stories for a casual viewer and even for today's audience, plenty of laughs and wonderful, fresh dialogue. On the back of the new series, its the ideal pre-christmas release. Please try and put on the extras the material shot by Tom Baker & John Cleese for the engineers christmas tape!

NILLER
I think that "The city of death" is one of the worst Dr Who episodes ever, first of all the title its totally misguiding, the plot is confusing, an alien who wants to steal the Mona Lisa why?! I can name several other episodes id rather have on Dvd such as: The planet of evil, The brain of morbius, the face of evil, and of course many of the Dalek episodes but that i know will be difficult due to all the fuss about Terry Nation and who actually owns the Daleks today sadly.

Peter Gibbs
City of Death: the idea of a creature, fractured in time, seeking to undo the event that created the human race. A story that dovetailed together so well. Julian Glover, Catherine Schnell: excellent acting. By far the best Who story. When originally released on VHS it was edited to run as one continuous tale. Is there any ewason why this cannot be done on DVD?

Jack Skorecki
I love this story, I was only 5 when my dad showed it to me and it really scared me (in a nice/safe/behind the sofa way). Now I'm 10 I sit and enjoy my sister, Hannah aged 6, say "ohhhhh look at at spaghetti face!" - she likes Dr.Who now ! - Great choice

Richard Drayton
Great news. Wheel out Tom Baker for the commentary.

Seven Williams
Loved this when first on TV,hope Tom Baker will provide a commentry, my only gripe is the lack of Season DVD releases, i for one do not want to wait another 15 -20 years to get the complete collection, Great news keep it up, i agree how about a "Genesis" release sometime soon.

Grant Griffiths
This story certainly is not Popularist Pap, it has some great performances and a wonderful on screen relationship between The Doctor & Romana. It is clear that everyone involved enjoyed making this story and that comes across on screen. Can't wait to replace my dodgy VHS copy.

david
I totaly agree with paul Kinnear about this story. It is DIRE! Duggan is the only good thing in it.Better stories PLEASE

Chris Eilenstine
This story is to Dr. Who what City on the Edge of Forever is to Star Trek. It just stays with you and when you think about the best of Dr. Who it comes immediately to mind. I'll be anxiously awaiting its' US release!!!

James Harrison
Nice to see this one on DVD, Tom Baker is still the best and will always be my favourite doctor. I would like to see released on DVD, the remainder of the series from 1976/1977 released like the Deadly Assasin, The Masque of Mandragora and The Hand of Fear.

Ross Garner
Very pleased to see City of Death coming out, especially since re-evaluating my stance on it. The verbal sparring between the Doctor and Scaroth are fantastic. Great to see a villain written as the intellectual equal of the Doctor. Any chance of Greatest Show in the Galaxy soon though, please?

WOTAN
It will be good to get some classic who out there; especially after the news about the "quiter" dampening everyone's spirits.

Carl Bowler
This is my second fav. story (Pyramids is the best), best moment is when the TARDIS dematrilises and John Clease say's "exqisite, truly exquisite"

Devin Copeland
Wonderful! The episode that got me into Doctor Who AND Douglas Adams. Can't wait! ....now when's it coming out over here in the U.S.? ;)

Max Rodríguez
It´s great is one of the best news about the Doctor Who I read

MarkR
Terrific, but could we please have Tom Baker doing special comments... yes indeed! That would be rather good!

The Rani
it's not as good as The Mark of the Rani, but what is?

Chris
Any of Toms stories are a welcome sight in my collection as the tapes are getting very worn. He is the best doctor by far.

mohammed anooar
wow! great story & superb cast including julian glover & tom chadbon as the likeable duggan (think marlowe). Will definately part with some cash if tom baker contributes a commentary. The chemistry between tom & lalla ward is at it's best here.

Chapman
Yippee, this is the best story ever.

Saint Michael
What Dr Who has - it has a - an ethos, a life, it has - a spirit all of its own. Like a wine, it has - it has a bouquet. Yes, like a wine - you have to choose one of the vintage stories, of course. And this City of Death actually, a classic vintage, shall we say? Ha!

Mike Richardson
"What a wonderfull butler- hes so violent!" Duggan breaking the bottle on the counter. Says it all. Will there be a commentary with Tom Chadbon and Julian Glover be on the commentary?

Paul Tripp
Absolutely the best. Excellent TV drama, not earnest, nerdy sci-fi nonsense.

Andrew Ness
Why this story! I've got it on video because it wasn't released that long ago and there are other stories waiting for release like the Silurians which is the best ever story.

Tony Butcher
Shame the story was never novelised.Makes a book collection incomplete

Peter Harding
This is one of my favourite episodes-Why? The Doctor doesn't quite get to meet Leonardo Davinci-much to the pity of the viewers. The Doctor also gets to do Battle with the Jagaroth and Strut his stuff with Romana in Paris. Is it any wonder they Fell In Love????

Alan Paterson
Enough of Tom Baker's Doctor for the moment please! What has happened to all of the William Hartnell stories? The "Lost in Time" DVD has just left me wanting more!

Gary Pryke
I'd like to see more extras featuring the makers of the new Who. For instance City Of Death should have a bit with Russell T. Davies and the team talking about how this particular story has influenced the new series and why it's a classic.

Neil Young
Strange choice as it was only re-released on VHS a few years back. I would like to see a restored to colour 'The Daemons' and more William Hartnell & Patrick Troughton. The Mind Robber and Lost In Time releases are excellent. How about increasing the number of DVD releases each year. After all, Doctor Who is back on TV now...

JP Wilson
Whilst it's not the worst why IS Worldwide overlooking so many great stories in favour of weak, heavy releases such as Mindrobber,Fang Rock, etc? At least City is a step in the right direction again.

trevor rushak
Julian Glover and John Cleese in on of the best ever scripts for the series by Doug Adams! Who could ask for anything more! Well, maybe a violent butler... Classic Who all the way!

CJ Thomas
Whilst I'm wrapped that City of Death is being released when it comes to the stories from Jon onwards i do wish they were released in Series sets as there are so many to be released and one every other month isn't enough

S Kathro
It would be great to see Tom Baker contributing to a DVD release - the documentary in Paris sounds quite intriguing. Sadly though,I'll be very surprised if he does a commentary with Lalla Ward.

Michael
This is an okay story let down by some embarassingly bad acting. I would have liked to see the much better stories "Terror of the Zygons" and "Genesis of the Daleks" released first.

David Aston
In many ways the last of the truely free Doctor Whos before conutinuty made it lose it's magic. You can tell Baker and Adams are at the peak of their powers as it really is a clever piece of sci-fi. The plot has a perverse twisted sense of humour and logic. The locations in France make it extra special. Almost a reward and a goodbye at the same time before the dying days.

Georgina Ledger
This is fantastic news to hear, lets hope Tom gets to do the commentary, here's hoping.

Matthew Smith
This story was mysterious.I love the cameo with John Cleese and Eleanor Bron. Overall this story is amazing and very funny.

Graham The Bear
Slightly overrated but tremendous fun and with a snot headed enemy to make any Who fan happy.

John A Collins
Good to see Tom showing deference to his fans by contributing something to his DVD releases! Lets hope he adds further with a commentary - then I'll buy it!

Adam Lewis
Sounds Good. How about the Invasion of Time? Please?

Brian Marsden
I will be keeping an 'eye' out for its release.

Scott
Its amazing it's taken this long to be released considering how popular and strong(in a lighthearted way of course) it really is. Even more amazing is how some folks don't appreciate this episode. Lighten up! =)

i enjoyed watching this adventure when it was first shown on bbc1 in 1979, then released on vhs during the early 90's and i can't wait for it to come out on dvd. I would love it more of these classic adventures were remixed in 5.1 surround like the leasure hive. paramount did it with star trek so i see no reason to do it with doctor who.

anthony harrison
as always its great to hear of yet another classic dr who story on dvd however since the new series is coming soon and the return of the daleks follows wouldnt a dalek story be better for a dvd release?

Jason Coles
This will always be one of my favourite stories, great location, great cast, fantasticly funny script and a great storyline. Tom Baker and Lalla Ward obviously had a ball when they made this.. and it shows. One of the the all time classics!

Craig
What a totally over estimated story. Still, at least it gets it out of the way.

Jon Mahony
This story was on UK gold not so long ago, it was ok but not brilliant. I do have to agree with Paul Kinnear, that Genisis Of The Daleks is a far better Candiate for a DVD release - we'v already been wating three years how much longer? it was bad enough putting out the horror of fang rock!

daz
I Take it that the new series is to be released in between the classic releases? I only hope they don't redesign the classic dvd packaging to represent the new series image as they did with the video releases after the tv movie as it wont look right on my shelf!!

dani
At last! But we must must must have a commentary by Lalla Ward. She really made The Leisure Hive disc as far is I'm concerned

Stephen Phillips
A good choice for DVD, especially if its possible to get both Tom and Lalla for the commentry of the DVD.

Ray MacFadyen
Excellent news! A superb story with a great setting, wonderful, witty script and perfect actors and a marvellous incidental score as the icing on the cake!

James Weatherley
Lalla Ward in a digitally remastered schoolgirl outfit - can't wait!

John Martin
I remember the excellent incidental music that accompanied the Doctor and Romana around Paris. Great to have the story on dvd.

Gareth Stafford
City of Death? On DVD? Can't wait!!!

Jennifer Hunter
I think this story was probably the most wonderful Tom Baker story yet. The location is wonderful!

Peter, Luton
Great News! This wonderful story (with the lovely Lalla Ward) will be a marvellous addition to the Dr. Who DVD Collection, and about time too.

Seb Mintle
Can't wait! I loved this story! Can we have The Key to Time box set here in the UK too please oh please?

Paul Kinnear
I HATE this story! Once again good stories are passed over for release in favour of popularist pap. Douglas Adams' non-humour is embarassing and the whole thing comes across worse than "Allo Allo". What a waste of a DVD slot when PLANET OF EVIL and GENESIS OF THE DALEKS are waiting for release...

Paul Simmans
At last! The one I've been waiting for! Once November comes around I certainly will be a happy chappy indeed.

Steve Rawnsley
Great location, great guest actors (Catherine Schell can abduct me anytime), and the Jaggeroth - 'nuff said!

Tom Webster
Yes! Finally! My favourite story is going to be released on DVD, this is the story that should have been released first. I look forword to seeing the Tom Baker in paris feature if it gets the Go-ahead. More releases like this please!
