Power of the Daleks

Thanks to Steve Roberts of the Restoration Team, we present the recently discovered partial trailer for the lost Troughton debut tale The Power of the Daleks.

The trailer was discovered at the BBC Archive at Windmall Road and cleaned up by the Restoration Team in time to present at the recent Panopticon 40th anniversary event.

Steve Roberts takes over the tale...

"The trail was only discovered about three weeks ago, by Andrew Martin at Windmill Road. Andrew has taken it upon himself to check (in his own time, I believe) the film recordings that were made of live programmes (PasB's, as they are known) to see if any of them have snippets of continuity on the front or end. I believe he has found some nice trails for various programmes, including this partial one from Power.

"It isn't the full trail, as the film recorder operator stopped the recorder just as the trail was beginning and restarted it a few seconds later. It has taken a not inconsiderable amount of effort to painstaking restore as many frames of sound and vision as possible for its second UK screening in 37 years!

"By agreement with the various parties involved, including BBC Worldwide, the co-sponsors of Panopticon, it was decided that the trail should be kept under wraps for a few days longer so that it could be announced at Panoption - which was, of course, the official BBC 40th Anniversary convention."
