Arabella is the Doctor

Arabella is the DoctorFast show star Arabella Weir plays female Doctor.

The Fast Show star and novelist Arabella Weir is to play a female Doctor in the final of Big Finish's Unbound series of audio dramas.

Exile - the sixth in the 'what if?...' dramas has a darkly humorous edge.

"I think it's a very funny script,"" said Arabella during recording of the play. "I have to say, I was a little bit nervous. I thought, 'Oh God, this is going to be one of those things for people who are real devotees and therefore it'll be full of in-jokes and unintelligible,' but I thought it was very funny, indeed."

Apart from being a woman, we can expect quite a different Doctor in Arabella.

"If she's going to be a woman,"said Arabella, "It's funny that she's a different sort of woman, rather than a movie star or a goddess. So, I think it's funny with all the belching. No farting as yet, but maybe - you never know. I might slip one of them in...!"

Coincidentally, Arabella recently starred with BBCi's Ninth Doctor, Richard E Grant in the BBC's Posh Nosh series, which she also wrote.

Doctor Who Unbound - Exile is due to be released in October.
