(0) It's chaos inside the spaceship!: Samuel is amazed: "Have we started in the middle by mistake?" "Rewind it, Dad!" insists Amy.
(1) the Doctor's strangely-attired. "Nice jimjams," grins Samuel. "Hey...why is he in a house?" Adam wants to know. He's in bed in 1913. "Is this a dream?" wonders Samuel. Amy and Harry look at each other, then at Dad: "What..?!"
(2) the Doctor says that he's as human as they come. "What a terrible dream!" says Samuel. "Yes," Adam ponders, "it must have lasted for over 900 years!" Writer Paul Cornell's name appears on the credits. Adam and Samuel cheer! Harry and Amy are utterly bemused.
(3) Adam studied the Doctor's new look: "That's a dodgy hat," he decides. "That's a dodgy accent," adds Samuel.
(4) Aliens of London: Martha makes the boys laugh when Martha jokes with Jenny about being a Londoner. But Baines's casual racism shocks them.
(5) "What's going on?" puzzles Samuel. "I don't get it...has it turned into that programme that Billie Piper went to?" The programme is reminding him of The Ruby in the Smoke.
(6) the Doctor falls downstairs. The kids laugh at this rather more than their parents approve.
(7) Matron gets some unwanted advice from Martha about concussion. "Well, she is a doctor," notes Adam. "They both are!" agrees Samuel. "Only one's not," says Adam.
Amy and Samuel look more confused than ever. But wait...Matron is going to check the Doctor's hearts. "Here we go!" says Harry. And yet there's only one! Samuel: "Eh??"
(8) The kids love the Doctor's sketch book, and call out their names as each of the familiar images appears. Then: The Three Doctors! Harry points at the screen excitedly: "Look, that's the seventh one! And the eighth!" Huge grins all around. "I want that book!" declares Adam.
(10) The bullying by the senior boys surprises Adam and Samuel. Especially as they've worked out who Tim Latimer is: "It's Feather Boy!" declares Samuel. But his brow furrows again. "What is going on? It's really suspicious."
(12) Lights in the sky. "It's an alien abduction!" decides Adam. Samuel: "We come in peace!" Adam: "I doubt it." Samuel: "I still don't understand what's going on." Harry jumps up excitedly: "That's like the laser that shot at Martha right at the start!"
(14) Baines is stumbling through the dark. "He's found the beer," Samuel notices, "and now he's found the green light, too." "They're aliens," notes Adam, "and they're alcoholics!" Amy's intuition tells her something bad is about to happen.
(15) Baines is banging on an invisible spaceship. "See if you can find the door," advises Samuel. "I think I'd have run for it by now," confesses Adam. "Where's the monster?" wonders Amy.
(16) A big yell from Baines surprises Adam and Samuel. Harry and Amy, bizarrely, find it hilarious. "He screams like a girl!" laughs Harry.
(17) Baines is back at the school, and sniffing suspiciously. "He's smelling humans," says Samuel. "Or Feather Boy hasn't been using deodorant," suggests Adam.
(18) The family all cheer when they see the TARDIS! "That explains it," sighs Samuel, "the Doctor and Martha are here, but they're acting." "Phew! So she still knows she's Martha!" notes Harry, relieved. "Well that is her name," says Amy, rolling her eyes. Inside, and..."The TARDIS has gone to sleep," says Adam
(19) A flashback to the beginning of the story. the Doctor is in the chameleon arch, and wracked with pain. The kids look alarmed at how much this hurts. "Take some painkillers," says Adam fretfully.
(21) The kids laugh as Martha fast-forwards the Doctor's video, and then laugh even harder when the Doctor reaches instruction 23.
(22) Tim opens the watch, and there's a familiar orange glow. "Oh no!" breathes Samuel. "Does that mean the Doctor's turning back into a Time Lord now?" Adam's more worried about Tim pocketing the watch: "Feather Boy's nicked it!
(24) Baines sniffs again. Samuel sniffs back: "That's bad!". Out in the field, a scarecrow twitches spookily into life. Adam waves back at it. "I don't like that thing," declares Mum. Amy and Harry aren't too scared) it reminds them of Spud from Bob the Builder.
(25) Music accompanies the little girl with the balloon. "That tune sounds familiar," decides Adam.
(27) Tim has a premonition of himself on a battlefield. The kids are scandalised that the Doctor grants permission for Feather Boy to get a beating "I'm glad my school's not like this," announces Adam firmly.
(28) Samuel is worried for our hero as he strolls around with Matron. "I want to see the real Doctor!" he moans. the Doctor snatches a cricket ball and amazes everyone by saving a baby from being crushed beneath a falling piano. "Yeah!" cheers Samuel. "That's the Doctor!"
(30) the Doctor and Matron go past the scarecrow. In passing, he mentions "Gallifrey", and the boys go "oooooh!" Then as they walk away, the scarecrow twists its head to follow them. The family jump in shock, Mum most of all: "Euuurghh!"
(31) the Doctor and Matron have a chaste snog. Amy and Harry hid behind their hands grinning and say "yuk!" "I hope Martha walks in right now," says Samuel...and is delighted when she does!
(32) Martha's in the TARDIS, checking the Doctor's list, of instructions. the Doctor's fallen in love with a human..."and it wasn't me," she says. "Good!" says Amy, and Harry nods in approval. The rest of the family stare forlornly at the screen, heartbroken with Martha.
(33) Mr Clarke, Baines, and the girl with the balloon are watching. Simultaneously, they sniff and tilt their heads. The whole family shiver as one! The shivers get worse as the scarecrows arrive, and Baines gives everyone his crooked smile...
(33) "Mother-of-mine" embraces the helpless Jenny. The kids gasp.
(34) Matron asks the Doctor if he can dance. He can't remember. "Yes!" Samuel yells at them. "The Doctor Dances, remember?" "That was the last one," Dad reminds him, "maybe this one's got two left feet." "Like you, you mean" mutters Mum.
(36) "Tell me now!" Jenny insists. "No, don't Martha!" shouts Samuel. Martha's too smart, and tests Jenny with a disgusting recipe. Adam and Samuel grin. Amy sticks out her tongue. "Hmm, not even Heston Blumenthal could make that work!" notes Harry, who's a fan of the celebrated chef.
Jenny's shooting at Martha. "A ray gun?" boggles Adam. "That's it! That's the laser from the start!" cries Harry.
(37) "Oh you complete..." begins Martha as she confronts the Doctor. The kids giggle merrily at this naughtiness. Jones slaps Smith, and that gets an even bigger laugh, except for Amy who gives her the hard stare she reserves for people who are nasty to the Doctor.
Tim follows Martha, and when she bumps into him he starts to see her through the Doctor's eyes. "He's got the Time Lord thing!" declares Samuel, amazed.
(39) In the hall, there's evidence that Samuel was right all along: "The Doctor can dance!" "Oh!" squeaks mum as the scarecrows start to mass. "There's a field full of them!" Samuel and Adam watch nervously. "Oh yes. Oh yes!" says Harry, anticipating the forthcoming action.
(41) Martha brandishes the sonic screwdriver at the Doctor. Adam and Samuel are agog. "It's a sonic screwdriver!" shouts Harry helpfully, but to no avail. Meanwhile, Baines can't spare a penny but he can zap the man with a ray gun.
Samuel finds this strangely amusing, and Adam studies him disapprovingly. But a moment later, there's a creepy scarecrow peering through the window. Samuel's smile vanishes abruptly when he suddenly realises that he's pressed up against the curtain by the window, too. He gets up at once and briskly goes over to join Mum.
(43) The villains threaten our heroes. "Why can't he just turn back?" Amy asks of the Doctor. "Those ray guns look like green shrimps," Adam observes.
But there's no time for further speculation, as the Doctor is helpless and faced with an impossible decision: save Martha or Matron? The end theme crashes in. "Awww nooooo!" wail the boys. "It's a two-parter!" "Oh dear." says Amy, and looks smiling towards Dad.
