National Television Awards Success!

25th Jan 2012

It was a great evening for Doctor Who at the National Television Awards tonight as Matt Smith and Karen Gillan each scooped one of the coveted awards.

Matt Smith triumphed in the category of Best Drama Performance: Male for his role as the Doctor and Karen Gillan won the NTA for Best Drama Performance: Female for her portrayal of Amy Pond.

Doctor Who has traditionally enjoyed a strong showing at the NTAs and has now won over a dozen of the awards since returning in 2005. Matt and Karen have previously scooped other awards and acknowledgements for their roles in Doctor Who - including a BAFTA nomination for Matt in 2011 - but success at the NTAs means they get 2012 off to a winning start! Massive congratulations to Matt and Karen and big thanks to everyone who voted for them.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, including John Barrowman (who debuted as Captain Jack in Doctor Who) , Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper in Stolen Earth/Journey's End) and BBC Wales' Merlin. You can find out more about them and enjoy videos at the official National Television Awards site now.
