UNIT

With the third Doctor exiled on Earth in the late 20th century, it was decided to team him up with the popular Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart (Nicholas Courtney) and his international fighting force, UNIT to repel all would-be invaders.

With headquarters in Geneva, the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce were Earth’s first line of defence against alien invasion. A pretty impressive job they did too - especially as there only seemed to be around a dozen of them.

Second-in-command to the Brigadier was Captain Mike Yates (Richard Franklin). Originally something of a love interest for companion Jo Grant (Katy Manning), Yates eventually became rather misguided, teaming up with evil scientists before having a nervous breakdown.

Last but not least, John Levene played gentle giant Sergeant Benton. Always ready to marshal the troops against rampaging monsters or make cups of sweet tea in a crisis, Benton was fiercely loyal to both the Brigadier and the Doctor.

While most UNIT stories occurred around the time of the Third Doctor, the Brigadier has appeared with all subsequent incarnations.
