We are sorry but we are going to have to close the boards overnight tonight (Wednesday 19th). This is because the huge amount of traffic resulting from today's unexpected announcement has caused a large moderation backlog that we will need to work through the night to clear.
We have had all hands on deck and have done all we can to avoid closing the boards but there's no way we can get anymore trained moderators working than we have now and the backlog continues to grow.
The boards will open again at 9 tomorrow morning - please come back then and continue the debate.
Sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for all your comments.

I don't envy you guys having to sort through all these posts! :-)
Also was just wondering if there was anyway people could be stopped from opening threads when there's a million and one of them saying the exact same thing ON THE SAME PAGE!! It's extremely frustrating and is leading to a really nasty MB environment as it is impossible to find any nice threads because they are being swallowed up in all the negativity!

Please don't say it's censorship, I should have left work three hours ago, we've really got no option.
There's been a huge influx of new users, on here and on the Have Your Say topic on the news site, and many are starting new threads instead of posting to existing ones. I'll stick a polite request at the top of the topic but we can't really do anything to stop people if they want their own thread...

Good. Some sanity at last from the BBC. So many posts on here need moderating - you just can't go around posting things which aren't true and some of the language has been unpleasant to read. There must be an enormous backlog. I wouldn't work through the night though - close the boards for a couple of days and it gives posters time to think before letting off steam here. Even the longer wait time between posts doesn't seem to have improved the quality or content of the forum.
