The Rosenkavalier section just did not work for me. The music was fine as was the singing but the staging of the event was very poor and unimaginative. Merely viewing the event as a spectacle, the use of the three singers was not believable. Their costumes/ dresses were dull, not theatrical or resplendent in any sense. I also struggled with the notion of a heavily pregnant Sophia being attractive to Octavian and equally I could not see any believable chemistry between him/her and the Countess. At times I found the whole spectacle rather laughable. I realise that there were two audiences for last night's show namely the radio one for whom any input into staging was wasted and the house audience who would have enjoyed some creative input into the staging.Might I suggest that if you are considering another such venture, you employ a director/ stylist / dress designer to add some pizazz and glamour to the event and consider employing singers who can act a bit as well; if only for the sake of the audience.Thank you Fri 18 Nov 2011 13:31:17 GMT+1
