This is the Conversation Forum for DNA Announcements << 8 October 2004: 'Auntie Beeb' 7 July 2005: New DNA Messageboards >>
We're pleased to announce the launch of a new DNA community, WW2 People's War: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/ The WW2 People's War community aims to capture and preserve for future generations the story of the British people during World War Two. Unlike any other war before or since, World War Two was fought as much by those working in the factories and living through the Blitz, as it was by the Armed Forces of land, air and sea. Britain truly was a nation at war. And although there are countless biographies of Churchill and Montgomery, the stories of millions of ordinary heroes remain untold. From Bevin Boys and Land Girls to RAF pilots and the men of the Merchant Navy, ordinary people found themselves part of extraordinary events. Although the war ended almost 60 years ago, many of us know these heroes. They are our mums and dads, aunties, uncles, grandads and grandmas. Through a combination of the BBC, historical experts and, most importantly, the public, this website enables people to write about, reunite with and research the war generation. Their stories will then take their place in the historical context. The People's War community presents an opportunity to tell the untold stories; to discover and write history; to honour heroes in a new national record. If you can contribute, your story would be most welcome, or perhaps you can contribute a family story passed on to you by friends or family members?

Traveller in Time _not_ lost on the DNA cluster"< /dna/h2g2/F77636?thread=1571911 > '28 November, 2005: The WW2 People's War site' An announcement of the pending closure and archiving of the WW2 site. Anyone who has been more or less active on the ww2 site and willing to leave their 'Personal Space' or 'My Page' (HooToo) 'Personal Page' or 'About Me' (WW2) in the archive (for the next 200 years) will have to make sure their 'Introduction' (just another name) or 'MastHeadEntry' does not contain any pictures or 'HooToo specific' GuideML. This involves conversations popup, drop down lists etcetera. Probably the best way is to use only 'Approved GuideML'. " "
