Everyone Will Die

paulvonscott writes about Threads

Barry Hines

1984

TV: Threads.
Creator: Barry Hines

Encapsulated. Would you recommend this? why?

Watch it and realise just how damn stupid and pathetic we all are. They should send copies to countries developing nuclear weapons and show them the power and the glory that can be achieved.

Time and Space: When and where I first encountered it

I was at school, must have been 13 or 14 and we got to watch a video in class, always an exciting moment as it meant we didn't have to do any work.

Recollection and revelations

It made almost no impact on me when I first watched it. I was in class and watching a grainy copy from the telly with a class full of kids sniggering when the lady peed herself. Watching it again as an adult earlier this year I was horrified by the vision of incompetance, futility and misery we would face in the event of a nuclear war. Those that survive will envy the dead.

Before this...

Z for Zachariah

A miraculous freak of nature allows a valley to escape the effects of a major nuclear war. A new garden of Eden populated by one man and one woman. And we make a mess of it as usual.

After This

The War Games

Possibly even more distressing than threads, if that were possible.
