MossyMermaid writes about The Stone Tape

Nigel Kneale

1972

TV: The Stone Tape.
Creator: Nigel Kneale

Encapsulated. Would you recommend this? why?

Because of it's psychological realism. Yes, ignore the special effects because there aren't that many and the tension comes from the interplay from the characters and how far they will go in the name of ambition. The characters could walk out of a play today, the sensitive psychic, the ambitious guy who would drive his team beyond endurance to get ahead of the competition to beat the other guys (more relevant not less). It's sense of mystery and general creepiness. And I'm not a scientist, but the premise of recording memory on stone or in smaller formats is still ahead of it's time now, never mind in the 70s when it was made....!

Time and Space: When and where I first encountered it

Well, I found the DVD this year in my local library. Since it's often mentioned in sci-fi round-ups I thought I'd give it a whirl. I'm not saying how old I am.....

Recollection and revelations

.... it's maturity fascinated me. And especially now so many people watch the like of Derek Acorah on most haunted....! These issues of memory/ haunting/ science faith and ambition stay with us....!

Before this...

Torchwood

Good god, how to describe this! An uneven but strangely compelling mix of X Files, Dr Who and playschool. A highly ambitious and dysfunctional team trying to save the world. Cyber chicks in high heels fight against Teradactyls and then episodes about identity, and people dealing with the consequences of their actions...... with more depth than has been seen in british sci-fi in a long time.

After This

.....oh keeping y fingers crossed for the remake of the Prisoner

.... that would be telling. ;-)
