Spooky, tense, Gripping

pieman70 writes about The X-Files

Chris Carter

1993

TV: The X-Files.
Creator: Chris Carter

Encapsulated. Would you recommend this? why?

Early episodes did really well in taking old urban myths and conspiracy theories along with some new ideas and making them into really gripping TV. The interplay between Mulder and Scully was riviting and at the start the over-reaching conspiracy episodes added to a mystery and mythos. It was also very accessable and as one of the geeks in school it was strange to actually be discussing things I normally discussed with a small cadre of people with larger numbers of "normal" people.

Time and Space: When and where I first encountered it

When it was first shown in the UK on BBC2 in 1993/4ish. I was hooked.

Recollection and revelations

It was reccomended, missed the pilot and caught the second episode and was drawn in. It at first actaully made me a bit of a conspiracy theorist and in fact probably due to the things I looked into made me question the more absurd ones more. You could say it had great effect in making me the cynic I am today.

Before this...

Star Trek

Still my first and greatest love

After This

Babylon 5

Launched not longa fter teh X-Files it was telling to the quality of both shows when I started looking forward to B5 more than X-Files. Babylon 5 was growing epic with a well planned arc plot while X-Files was running so many 2 part episodes with fantastic first aprts and huge let down conclusions.
