Defiant, brave, tragic

TheDoctorAlt8 writes about Blake's 7

Terry Nation

1978

TV: Blake's 7.
Creator: Terry Nation

Encapsulated. Would you recommend this? why?

Because it is an antidote to the utopian view of the future so popular in American programmes of the time. Still manages despite being dated in look to raise contemporary topics.

Time and Space: When and where I first encountered it

Upon it`s first broadcast...When I was 12. At home .

Recollection and revelations

I stumbled upon it by chance. I remember seeing the Liberator for the first time and believing it was the most special original and beautiful ship I had and still have seen. I recall willing the crew to succeed but somehow despite the victories knowing that they couldn’t. Their enemy was too numerous, powerful and determined. I knew that, without some outside help they could never gain the freedom that Blake craved and Avon scorned at. That the portals of the charters were certainly more flawed and therefore more realistic because of it. Looking back, we now have the cameras in the streets of our towns, cities businesses and shops just as the people of the dome had cameras trained on them. There are no drugs in the water / food supply but the government use words and fear to manipulate us. Perhaps Blake’s 7 helped me to treat every thing with more caution than I might. And there are other resonances in real life. When I was old enough I took the risk of contacting other fans… and that is something I’ve never regretted. In face I met my boyfriend at my first science fiction convention and we`er still together.

Before this...

Dr Who.

Come on if your Bitish and yound your first Science Fiction WILl be and encounter with the good Doctor.

After This

The Hitchikers Gulde to the galaxy.

In a way Blakes 7 and HHG could be seen as two sides of the same coin. Dosen`t matter how for we develope we`ll either be fighting the system or fighting the coffee machine. !
