Starting an obsession

Jubei700 writes about Akira

Katsuhiro Otomo

1988

Film: Akira.
Creator: Katsuhiro Otomo

Encapsulated. Would you recommend this? why?

Absolutely, this film opened my eyes to anime in general and its an obsession I still have years later.

Time and Space: When and where I first encountered it

1999, at a friends house during a uni holiday. I'd heard of it before, but never seen it before. It was a very bad video copy, but I saw something great and now of course I own it on DVD.

Recollection and revelations

This film started my love affair with anime, and more generally Japanese cinema. These days i don't think it's the best, but it will always be the first. Without this I would never have seen Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, Cowboy Bebop and a hundred other less well known animes.
