This must have been a TV introduction, and was probably a 1990s showing.

Rock Hudson searches for identity in this terrifying mid-life crisis movie.

Dealing with the uncomfortable subject of spiritual rebirth, this brilliant social science-fiction movie from seminal 60s director John Frankenheimer is years ahead of its time in both theme and style.

X-rated on its original release, the film is about middle-aged Arthur Hamilton, who takes a surgical escape from his dull life. This frightening premise is intensified by camerman James Wong Howe's use of stark black-and-white photography and distorting fish-eye lenses.

Under-rated star Rock Hudson gives one of his best performances as the deeply disturbed recipient of life-changing plastic surgery.

Work nominated by BeebWolf.
