Lost in Space
Space soap about marooned astronaut family and their faithful robot.
In its first (black and white) season, this Irwin Allen-produced science fiction series was an outer space version of The Swiss Family Robinson - its working title was Space Family Robinson.
The show followed the crew of the Jupiter 2 - professor Guy Williams, his wife June Lockhart, son Billy Mumy, daughters Angela Cartwright and Marta Kristen and pilot Mark Goddard. Thanks to sabotage, their 1997 colonial expedition to Alpha Centuari goes off course and strands them on an inhospitable (if much-visited by guest creatures) planet.
However, the show was usurped by camp, snippy, treacherous stowaway Dr Zachary Smith (Jonathan Harris) and a lumbering robot (voiced by Dick Tufeld) becoming the stars. When the show went to colour in its second series, these outrageous characters came to dominate.
The series boasted a memorable theme tune by John Williams, and a memorable catchphrase - "Danger, Will Robinson. Danger!"
Work nominated by MissRisa, Joesbatmobile and David_CC.
