In Depth

Invasion: Earth

A handful of British military try to prevent Earth becoming an alien battleground.

Earth looks destined to become the site of a long-awaited conflict between two alien races, and humanity's only hope of survival lies with a small band of soldiers in this British answer to Independence Day.

There are intriguing ideas at the centre of this six-episode offering, but after a promising start it turns into a run-of-the-mill alien invasion saga. A reported 750,000 was spent on each episode, including 85 custom-built sets and state-of-the-art computer graphics. Still, the miniseries' limited production values struggled to capture accurately the storyline's epic scope and its sluggish pacing culminates in an unsatisfying ending.

The Anglo-American cast do their best to offer a believable response to an alien encounter and, when given the opportunity, deliver some moving moments.
