My pal wrote an a academic paper about the Beckett trilogy which he called 'Signifying Nothing' and it was a hugely readable romp through the almost unreadable Beckett. I have memories of seeing page after page of unparagraphed, unpunctuated prose, and my pal teetered on the brink of a nervous breakdown. But in a good way you understand. I'm hoping to catch Get the Blessing at the Glasgow Jazz Festival, and maybe Acoustic Ladyland again too if I can make it. AL in the ridiculously compact space of Glasgow's King Tut's Wah-Wah Hut are just great. It's so energetic it's wrong.Ewan Fri 22 May 2009 10:49:47 GMT+1 weanedonstein http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/bdbd?page=6#comment1 Or have I, unlike you Chris, naively succumbed to the urge to show off my knowledge, rather than allowing it tacitly to acknowledge the artistic, "big-upping" nods of fellow cognoscenti? However, I'm a little surprised that you've overlooked the fairly well-known source of two of GTB's "great" titles: "yes I will..." is hugely famous as the final phrase from Mr J Joyce's "Ulysses" (specifically the closure of Molly Bloom's soliloquoy), whilst The Unnameable is the name of an entire novel from the justly celebrated "Beckett trilogy" (TE being the final book, after Molloy & Malone Dies), widely felt be the epitome of Beckett's prose work.I love this band, in any case. But I thought I'd foist some background on your readership. All the best,Paul.PS My band organelles has had the privilege of both Messrs Barr & Judge gracing its membership - one of our titles is "I can't go on, I'll go on". Go on: Google that one! Thu 07 May 2009 13:32:35 GMT+1
