Ora's Sweet Shop, North Parade, Oxford

jayhazelwood's memory. No date

When we were children in the mid 1930's we had a weekly visit to Ora's sweet shop. North Parade is a very narrow street. My father parked outside in the car with us four children in it while my mother went inside Ora's to get the sweets. Meanwhile, another car wanted the space outside the shop so my father moved on a bit. When my mother came out with the sweets she sat down in what she thought was our car. She handed the driver a packet of sweets -
'Have one of these' she said, 'they are very good'.
When the driver looked up she realised it was not my father but a completely strange man who was of course astonished.
