Ziggy Stardust was born

stevensa's memory of 10th February 1972

The Toby Jug Blues Club in South-West London. My grandfather was the relief manager. I was 19, and had a job delivering drinks and collecting glasses backstage. I received an order for a brown ale. I took it to the "dressing room" (a converted toilet). I knocked on the door, and David Bowie answered it. "Mr Bowie" I said - "here's your drink". "It's Ziggy Stardust tonight" he replied. It was the first ever gig for Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders. There were only about 30 people in the club. What a night.
