In 1968 my girlfriend and I were preparing for our wedding the following year. I was working for London Transport as a bus conductor and she was in her final year as an apprentice hairdresser.
Her sister lived near Derby and we visited her several times during the early part of the year. In August we decided to spend our summer holidays up here. I fell in love with Derby and Derbyshire. So much so we bought a house here and moved in after the wedding in 1969.
