Dancing class at Crosby School

ethelchloride's memory of 1 day between 1st August 1963 and 1st July 1964

A group of us youngsters used to attend dancing class run by Mrs Nichols every week. I can remember us all sitting on the wall waiting for the doors to open one evening, when the chat turned to the up coming visit to Maryport that evening of famous pop star Millie. A small group of us about 8 at the most, then began singing her songs, until we got ourselves convinced she would be driving past imminently, oh how we shouted and cheered. Did she go past? I don't think so, but I do remember an adult finally opening the doors and tellings us to shut up and come inside. Our group would have been made of 8-10 year olds at the time. I wonder if any of the older generation can remeber seeing Millie in the flesh that night?
