School dinners

BBC Memoryshare West Yorkshire on behalf of Matt Ridley's memory of 1st January 1982 - 31st December 1982

The school dinners at Shadwell Primary School could have been worse. There was only a banana flavoured custard tart that made me gag. I can't stand that sort of consistency to this day. When we got to the final year of the school, or the 'top class' as it was known, we were expected to act as 'servers' where we would dish up the food for the younger children. A commitment-phobe even then, I was literally terrified and in tears at the thought of this grave responsibility. As the end of the penultimate year approached I asked my teacher: "Mr. Stewart, do we HAVE to be servers?" The answer was yes but I actually enjoyed it once it happened.

This memory was submitted to the Memoryshare web service by the BBC West Yorkshire Memoryshare Team on behalf of Matt Ridley. Matt is a TV Technical Operator at BBC Yorkshire.
