What's the first thing Boris Johnson needs to do to improve the lives of Londoners? Can he deliver on his election promises? And after 8 years as Mayor of London, can you think of a suitable role for Ken Livingstone?

Blimey Alice! You're making yourself a hostage to fortune there!! I think Boris has SAID the right things. Putting them into practice is going to be far more difficult.Making people feel safer (I gather he's already had a meeting about this) would seem to be a good start.

I hope his comments about keeping Mr. Livingstone around were just polite remarks made after an election victory.
Fighting crime and illegal immigration ought to be Johnson's priorities. The two go hand and hand with each other.

Why should anyone living outside the Great Wen remotely care? I've given up on expecting an answer to my question about pdf documents. You have let me down.

"Why should anyone living outside the Great Wen remotely care?"
Obviously it is the 'London Today' programme.
The obsession with the Capital is typical of those who are only interested in reporting stories that influence the broadcaster's lives.
It is this attitude that supports the focusing of political power in tiny pockets so that those that have power can stay in power.

Whilst I hope Ken and Brian turn Boris' offers down, it is apparent from the off that Boris doesn't feel he can do the best job without them.

Very parochial question with little interest in other cities of the UK.
And there ARE other cities in the UK.

uselesswebsite. New York cleaned their act up by a zero tolerance programme. Still not perfect I believe but a great deal safer than it was.

I dont think Cameron ever expected Boris to win
I don't think Ken ever expected Boris to win
I don't think Boris ever expected to win and his body language at the count clearly showed the surprise when he received the most votes.

What can Boris do? Well for a start re-organize the Congestion Charge, secondly, reduce the number of 'Ken's Old Pals' and political correct usurpers from the organization (i.e. find "Efficient" people for the job as against Ken's Cronies) A job for Ken, What about the Cleansing Department.

Quite. Ken was complacent, imo - but that's easy to say in retrospect. I am convinced Londoners voted against Gordon Brown and the Labour Party and not against Ken or the many other able Labour councillors who lost their seats.

Defendant. I hope Scotland Yard are sifting through his paperwork today. The BBC should also be listening to the electorate (and trembling). A year ago BBC executives described this once lively website as unruly and full of subversives, before reducing it to the sad state it is in today. Labour wont recover from this and the BBC may not either. If the conservatives are no better they should be allowed to get fat off the poor for a decade or so, secure themselves good pensions and a few board memberships and then we should throw them out too. The system may work, after all.

`...can you think of a suitable role for Ken Livingstone?'
How about a spell as chairman on `Have I Got News for You.'
He can look upon it as a job-swap.

If London are going for Game Show Celebs for Mayor then can I suggest Jasper Carrott? At least he seems to be intelligent.
I can imagine him doing quite a good job, regardless of his political position.
What about a TV Special: 'I'm a Mayoral Candidate: Get Me Into There'?
This might give some hope to previously bypassed pneumatic ladies and fading popstars et al.

True and it is the way to approach the problem but the Metropolitan Police are going to have to become more 'American' in their approach to criminals and have prison space to put those who are arrested and convicted.

Carrott is indeed very intelligent but he's a Brummie. He tells great jokes about Redditch but doesn't know his Aldgate Pump from his Brick Lane.
I think London Mayoral candidates should be restricted to those born within the sound of Bow Bells and I don't mean Stratford-by-Bow as some now do.
