Because the selectors keepi p*ssing around with the one day side! If they just kept the majority of the test side (or possibly all 11?) they would probably win more than they lost!

This is because they don;t value one day cricket as much as they value test cricket, the system is set up to be conducive to help the test team shine. I also think that selection decisions are a little bit mystifying, i would have thought players like harmison, hoggard and panesar would be playing. England also don't score enough runs which makes it difficult for the bowlers and vice versa (replacing runs with wickets).

Harmison would be playing but he's injured. The same goes for Flintoff, Simon Jones and Ashley Giles... Add of of the guys who bowled today and you'd have a decent attack...
Hoggard isn't in the one day team because when he has played he's gotten hammered.
Worryingly though the problem seems to be scoring runs... Admittedly, the team bowling first in both the one dayers so far has had a massive advantage with the conditions... Even so, our top order's repeated failure to score heavily isn't because they aren't good batsmen - with the exception of Tres they all played well in the tests... I

With current performance England has a very poor chance of even qualifying to Semifinals in West Indies. Lot of work need to be done to tidy up the batting at the top of the innings specially at power play time. With a strike rate of 75 or less it would be hard to move high on the ladder and to give enough runs to the bowler to get opponets out.

Let's get some perspective here. It's not a question of whether they play the One Day or Test format. If you're good at cricket you shouldn't have a problem coping! The main thing to not is the differences in the Pakistani side they beat and the one they can't. This Pakistan team is now getting somewhere near it's best, that's the difference between England winning and losing!

I think and i would like to code English skipper words which he gave after the loss of test series in Pakistan " Difference between England and Pakistan was Shoiab " and i totally agree Shoiab has shown he was the difference and his absence cost Pakistan test series defeat i am a cricket fan and i like to see good players in action and i would say as long as Shoiab keep bowling the way he is his Pakistan can win against any team and it has nothing to do that England played bad we did good but one man was the difference between the two sides. Tim.

Welli can say that Pakistan have got there full team strength back. By having there main bowlers back like shoaib Akhtar, Rana Naveed and Mohammed Asif along with the batter Shoaib Malik.
Still England are a very good team i think they could try and get a player which would take wickets which could be Monty Panesar.

Our test team would indeed do well in ODI's.
Panesar can keep it tight, and bat at 11.
Replace Hoggard for Lewis, Gough or Broad or S jones.
And replace Cook for the one of Bell/Collingwood that would miss out when Flintoff comes back.
When there are only 5 specialist bowlers, as in our Test team, then they have no choice other than to do the job. Bell and Colly can fill in.

Trescothick and Pietersen seem to be woefully out of form right now and key players are missing - Flintoff, Harmison blah blah blah excuse excuse. But truth is Pakistan are an extremely talented side, particulaly in one day cricket and England just seem to have lost all confidence. Ok so they are injury problems but I'm sorry, Darren Gough is just no longer up to international standard. Neither is Dalrymple, but if you're going to have him in the side then at least bowl him! Otherwise you might as well have Monty in there, despite his 'batting'. And Bell, well, good player, but his style isn't really suited so well to the one day game.

The english team are obviously not motivated for the odis, the only occasion i can remember them being motivated for odis in recent history is last year when they wanted to strike an emphatic blow before the Ashes, in that period before the tests they won a few matches against the top side so weren't bad.
I think England need to approach the odis with a more cavalier way, if they don't care much try to get runs fast, rather than pretend they care and nudge and nurdle all the time.

I think our performance has to come down to these factors:
- The batsman are just throwing their wickets away by playing to wide balls outside the off stump, this is the most common way they are getting out in ODIs (I've seen the evidence) by getting edges to the slips or the keeper.
- The bowlers keep bowling bad balls, ie short of a length, long hops or a half volley. You just can't do that in one-day cricket because you know that 9 times out of 10 you will get smacked for 4 or 6 by the batsman. Look at Jon Lewis today, bowling full length balls and only conceding 10 or so runs. This is how it should be done!
If the team can take this account I'm sure something will change.
