After being the only two English players to come out of the Sri Lanka ODI series with any credit Marcus Trescothick and Jamie Dalrymple have yet again been Englands two best players.
It was great to see Stuart Broad play and I think we can all see he will be a good player in the short term and a great player in the long term.
i think seeing how successful a spinning all-rounder (Dalrymple) was against Sri Lanka it was right to play two today and I think Yardy has a future in the ODI game.
Gough showed some courage but it was the abject failure of Mahmood whih makes a mockery of the team. He undoes everyones good work in one pathetic over.
The top order performed poorly again and I would prefer to see Cook rather than Bell for the longer form of the One Day game.
Who do people think should replace mahmood?

Well Harmison will be coming back in but probably for Broad or Gough rather than Mahmood. Hopefully Anderson will be fit soon and then, with Fred back too, we have the basis of a decent attack.

Disagree on Bell vs Cook though - Bell definitely deserves his place and Cook has not demonstrated in any way that he is a better bat (though would probably make a better opener). As well as that, Bell is a better fielder and a decent, though under utilised, fielder.

On batting form it should probably be Strauss who is dropped for ODI's but I can't see that happening.

I was there - Mahmood's indiscipline cost us the match - come back Harmison!

why was dalrymple great? he took 28 balls to make his 27, which is far too slow in twenty20 cricket. if everyone went at that speed we'd have only had a total of around 120. i know he came in at a difficult time but it was still too slow.

also i thought strauss' captaincy was wrong. 1. why was collingwood given a second over when his first was disastrous?

2. why bring on mahmood for his first over when afridi had just come in - that was a vital moment in the game when we'd just taken two wickets. gough should've stayed on to bowl at afridi.

also i've seen people saying gough figures weren't good enough - 0-33 from 4 overs i think it was which i agree wasn't great but when you think there were two dropped catches that went for four, that easily could've been 2-25 which would've been very impressive indeed.
