The Great Escape is still on! Hopefully with a bit of rain and some defiant batting Sri Lanka can pull of one of the greatest escapes ever in Test Cricket!

Good to see the Lankans showing some grit. Really good batting this innings. Starting to look like a proper test side again.

Yep and we've got the perfect batsman to come in next as well. Samerewera is our version of Graham Thorpe, someone who can stay in and digs in times of trouble. However with the way Maharoof (Our Flintoff, just not as good)is going it may be a while.

Well i think this has came a little late but hopefully the weather can intervene. However, nice to see Sri Lanka fight! Just need to bring in Malinga and maybe adjust the batting lineup.

Thankfully for England, Samaraweera hasn't scored a run in his last 3 innings.

Although I'm an England fan it would be nice to see one of the Lankans get a ton this test - hopefully Jayawardene, he's a class act.
There can't be too many SL names on the honours board in the Lord's longroom, can there?

Strange that Samaraweera, who around 40 caps has played so little outside Asia. But I guess he's good enough to make runs here, if he gets a start.
I suspect that from this point, unless there's rain, Sri Lanka are only putting a bit of a marker down for the rest of the series. And if they lose, it will be difficult for them to resist the temptation to make the sort of changes that tends to undermine a developing team.
I'd be pleased for Jayawardene to make a ton. But please don't leave us chasing 150+ on the last day!

It still a very flat pitch so they should be able to get a lead, unless England take a couple of quick wickets.

Quite a few tons by Sri Lankans in their four tests at Lord's.
1984, Wettimuny made 190, Mendis 111,de Silva 102 off Botham, Ellison, Agnew, Pocock and Allott.
Nil in 88 off Lawrence, Newport, Foster, Pringle, and Emburey. Or in '91 v Defreitas, Lawrence, Lewis, Botham and Tufnell.
Last time in 02, Jayawardene made a ton, and Atapattu 185 off Caddick, Hoggard, Cork and Flintoff. No spinner. This was one of the few occasions when Fletcher listened to the public and left out the spinner, letting Vaughan bowl the few overs of off spin to let the seamers have a rest. 555-8.

I've been asleep all morning, but the reports I've read/heard suggest we've bowled well and the ball has been doing something. Probably a wicket will bring 2 or 3 more.
I felt at the follow on that we'd have to chase a small target. It might be a little more than I thought. 5 catches down in this innings!

Well played Sri Lanka, but they really are breaking this English heart at the moment. I can take some small consolation in having predicted Jayawardene would top score in the series ( that is on course) but not very much.
