Once and for all, Pietersen silences his critics.
Make no mistake, without him today, we would have LOST THE ASHES.
To play that innings, under the most severe pressure on a 5th day was amazing.
Can all Pietersen critics leave the room quietly now.
Thankyou.

I'll just add, he ends the series with the most runs and the highest average amongst BOTH teams (in his first series)

More than the runs he scored, he is the one who made his fellow players genuinely believe that they can stand up to aussies by scoring debut 50 against Aussies both in one dayers and tests.

Hey I am probably the most anti-Pietersen fan you will meet. I think he is an exciting cricketer but anyone who:
1. Leaves his country of birth becuase he cannot face the threat of black cricketers competing, and
2. When going back to his home town, Durban in SA, fabricates a sponsor for his hire car and emblazons the name of this 'restaurant' and his name on the car becuase he 'wanted to raise his profile'

Somehow he just leaves a bad taste in the mouth and rather he played for England with this attitude. Enjoy the ride but beware when things don't go his way.

your correct in saying without his runs today england prob wouldnt be smiling right about now....if he has a run of outs and is still dropping catches then the howls for his sacking will be just as loud as ever. One innings doesnt make a career...but hell it is a pretty good start smiley

I really liked the way he admitted that after dropping six catches througout the summer, he deserved the rub of the green today. LoL.

But man the way he took on Brett Lee highlighted the spirit of this ashes.

Its averages that count.

We need players like KP in our side.

So what that he is arrogant etc...its exactly this arrogance that gave him the belief to take on the Aussies head on when everyone else around him are losing their wickets.

Make no mistake, no one else in the side besides maybe Flintoff could have scored an innings like that with that pressure.

BUT FOR KP'S INNINGS WE WOULD NOT HAVE WON THE ASHES.

Now give the guy some credit and leave all the personal remarks (about his nationality, hair, attitude etc) for the girls.

Well, in the first test match of his career he got the highest average and the most runs scored of either teams batsmen against the best team in the world.
A match winning innings under incredible pressure today....

I think he's probably earned his place in the team.

The boy did well.

I think he needs to mature in his approach - think of Flintoff 3 or 4 years ago, and the way that he has developed.

He can certainly bat, and as he develops; (and once he has his first test catch); he will be a real strength in our test team for years to come.
