The River City messageboard will be closing at 1400 on Friday, 15 May. We know this is going to disappoint a lot of you but we hope you understand why we've made this decision. Running the messageboard requires a lot of staff time, time we feel can be spent updating and creating new and exciting content for the website. Your input has been hugely valuable over the years and we have no wish to discourage that interaction. We do feel it's very important for the viewers and visitors to the website to have a say about the show.

The massive rise in popularity of social networking has provided interesting platforms for interactivity. We hope to be able to move forward to bring you new ways of sharing your thoughts about River City.

For starters, there's the Backstage Blog: www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/.... It's becoming increasingly popular and we promise big plans for it - there's a brand new look coming soon, and more fun and exciting stories from behind the scenes. All existing messageboard users can add their comments to our blog posts and it's easy for new users to sign up and join in.

To do this, just click on 'comment' underneath a blog post. It'll prompt you to sign in, accept the terms and conditions (if you haven't done so already), and have your say! Please do note that this isn't a direct replacement for the messageboard format. Posts on the blog are reactively-moderated, just as they have been on the messageboard. Please do make sure you're aware of the House Rules: www.bbc.co.uk/messag....

If you prefer messageboard chat, then the Points Of View messageboard will let you continue discussing River City: www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb.... You can use your existing login to do so.

The Digital Spy website's forum has a River City thread that you may like to visit: www.digitalspy.co.uk....

Over on Facebook, there are two places to chat with fans. The River City group: www.facebook.com/hom... and the River City Fan page: www.facebook.com/pag.... Neither of these are official BBC pages but could be a great place for Facebook users to chat about the show.

We are looking into other social networking places and more modern, progressive ways for interaction. As soon as anything new is announced, we'll post links on the official River City website. www.bbc.co.uk/riverc....

If you have any comments about the messageboard closure then please do one of the following:

1. Add your comments to the specific thread on the Backstage Blog. Any comments about this closure will be removed from any other blog posts. Please stick to the relevant thread to avoid disruption, to make your host's job easier and avoid spoiling other users' enjoyment of the blog.

2. Visit the Complaints page and fill in an online complaint form. www.bbc.co.uk/compla...

3. Write to: BBC Information, PO Box 1922, Glasgow G2 3WT, or telephone 03700 100 222.

The River City team values your enthusiasm about the show and we hope that you continue to enjoy the goings-on in Shieldinch every Tuesday from 2000 on BBC One Scotland (and whenever you like on the iPlayer!). Please be assured that the closure of the messageboard will not affect the TV show. We'll continue to work hard to put River City on your screens every week.

If you have this messageboard bookmarked then you'll be able to find it again to re-read old discussions. However, you will no longer be able to post on the board and links to the board will be removed from the River City website from Friday, 15 May at 1400.

We are confident you'll enjoy what we have in store for River City on TV and on the web. Thank you for all your input on the board over the years.

All the best,
River City Team

It's too bad. This is the best TV forum I've ever been on, and it's so well run. I am a forum member on two other terestrial channels,a nd they are not run well at all.

I hope you get the time to run this place again.

Well as a fan I'll be sad to lose the forum, but as someone who does web development for a living I've no right to complain because this is exactly what I've told all my clients for the past year. Forums are dinosaurs, social networking sites are the way to go. So, I guess I have to put up and shut up here!

I don't agree that Forums are dinosaurs. You can use a Forum for social networking, and some of the forums I use 'need' to be moderated, and a good job they do too.

I just hope we get a dedicated River City fan site, perhaps run by an ex-member of River City staff.

From a geek perspective they are nightmares to operate and keep secure. If you close a forum and move to social networking, you are basically letting someone else do the hard work. Cheeky, but you know what I mean.

We do need a good RC fan site. Don't look at me, though. smiley

I wonder if it would be a good idea to allow one or two well established forum member to be ale to apply as unpaid volunteers to moderate the forum. smiley

Truly disappointed, but after the closure of Scot Chat, it was only a matter of time before this went the same way, there have been many problems on here, people with Multiple log ons kids on here acting silly bullying each other, giving out personal details, email addresses and so on (remember Izzy !!!)why people have to lie on a messageboard is beyond me,there is someone doing it just now, so in that respect this place is not moderated properly, but that in itself would be a full time job, I will miss it but it's not the end of the world is it. Pammy see you on FTS.

Don't know how they are working out that the board requires lots of staff time, clearly Julie only floats about here once in a blue moon.

How many times have I seen that the spoilers will be updated?

Updated for 2 weeks at the most then it's back to square one.

Maybe when the board closes staff members will run the website more efficiently. smiley

I think the real reason is so newspapers can't get hold of the viewing publics perception of the show. Cos if I remember correctly, a newspaper ran the story that fans where unhappy with the shows current state.

Where did they get that information from? Did they ask every Tom, Dick & Harry in the street and ask then what they thought of the show? Hmm.

That is all.

Nice associating with you all.

Well!!! that`s just great!!! its all right for those people who know there way around a computer but what about the likes of myself who is still not to savvy with all these sites that have been mentioned. It was not to long ago I was asked to complete a survey about this board, why did they bother asking for opinions if they were closing it down.I will miss it and all of you R.I.P.

Naughty, naughty RR!
So another Scottish Board closes but just look at www.bbc.co.uk/messag... to see how many the Beeb will still be running. All sorts of stuff is covered like the hugely popular "Trying to Conceive" or the SEVEN boards for "The Archers" or how about the Isle of Man board for offshore tax dodgers? There's something for everyone on BBC message boards, er, except Scotland. BBC Scotland has always been the idiot child of the London hegemony but this is a new low. Shame on you.

Why don't you all visit Scotsgait where you'll get a warm welcome www.scotsgait.co.uk/...
