<quote postid='89718505'>I personally think that universities should be free-like for the first 3 yrs then if anyone wants to do masters then to pay for that.

    What do you think??
i think universities should be free because some people won't afford to pay the money and it results many children not going to universities .

I think that they should change the system back to the way it was before, we were paying for our university fees but the prices were not extortionate, even if they thought we were. I am not rolling in money by any stretch, but university was still available to me and still will be, if i am lucky enough to get in, as I am determined to become a medical student. Yet i believe the new system is going to turn people away from university as the threat of large amount of debt is not a prospect one looks forward to.

I would love for university to be free but there would still have to be cap on whom could enter and it would mean everyone having to achieve ridiculously high grades during their a level years and at the best universities they are already at this level.

If the first year were to be free to allow people to adapt to the change of university life, and also maybe to save and get a job, the introduction to fees and loans will be a more realistic prospect.

I agree with you that the fees should not be extortionat, I would love to go to university and train as an archeologist and I agree that the new system may turn peopel away, indeed, I have a couple of years till university, but I can feel myself being turned away due to the price.

Also I agree that the first year should be free

All the best in becoming a medical student smiley - smiley

I dont think that universities should be free because people take advantage of it. They feel as though they might as well waste another three years at school which they dont have to papy for and come out no more better off than they did when they first went in - except and extra piece of paper! In the near future i can see that experience is going to get you a much better job than qualifications because at the moment all young students have got some sort of qualification or another and its very hard for employers to choose candidates just through the qualifications people have got. Also not everyone needs to go to uni. Hardly anyone ever used unless you where training to become a doctor or a type of proffesional work where qualification are a necessity. On the other hand it is hard for less affluent people to gain a place at uni if they are unable to pay and with the the free entry more of these peole would probably have a chance but i personally think you're better off going to do an apprentiship after your a levels or try and get some work experience in the career you want to fullfill.

Then please earn £9000 pounds in front of me,UNI should be FREE.Everyone has a right to education.EDUCATION should not be for money. You do realise, that if we were in the middle ages,we would not be thought these subjects today, same in the peroids of history. We should be glad that we have these subjects.

I am in YR9 and I want to go to Uni.Yet I must raise £9000.smiley - sadface.I am not happy.People take advantage of it?Talk to the rich students. They have everything, their fathers pay their money for them.Yet you say we should pay a bloody 9000 pounds just for going to Uni.It should be made free. Our parents pay a huge amount of money to the government.TV licences is required to watch TV.Right...Who needs a license to watch Tv?The Government says so.Our Parents pay a large amount of money, and yet all we get in return is nothing, nothing!

    So Yes,Uni should be free.

I think it is a great idea you have in your head however I think only non-famous university should be for free because if famous universities are for free then everyone would want to go to famous universities only, like Oxford. Then the non famous universities could not do business and it may be closed. If there is too much students in Oxford and other famous universities, where will they go to? So, I think that diploma should be for free while degree, master and PHD should not be for free. smiley - smiley

Its a great ideasmiley - cool, everyone will get a chance to be educated and earn good jobs which will intern boost the economy.

One question thaugh, how will the lectures get paid?
If they reduce the cost of University to about 3,000 instead of 10,000. They will get paid partly by us and partly by the government. Also, there can be fundraising days, ect.

Well said! But in Marshall of the empire's defence, people would take advantage. So, instead of just getting in, there could be a little intervue disscussing the pupils behaviour and wether they should be allowed. Also, at three warnings or a similar disipline, the student shall be dissmissed and not allowed back.

To some extent I agree, because £9000 is a deterrent and we should be persuading more people to go to uni, not less. But if we don't pay for the tuition and facilities, then the government has to. And as much as it is a pain, our country is in debt - there is not enough money to spend on financing uni. The new cuts are too much, but they were not put in place for a laugh, and if uni was free, then I agree with Fringey 007 - everyone would go, and if everyone goes to uni, then there are not enough people filling the less skilled, but just as important jobs. Paying for uni is a pain, but is necessary, or you would be attempting to learn chemistry in a lab with no equipment because we have not got the money to pay for the lab.

And is we went to uni for free, then we would have to pay higher amounts of money to the government to pay for our eductation. So that complaint about government taxes and TV licenses? With a free uni, that would just get higher...

But there should be more loans etc to help with those who cannot afford it.

And about the TV license thing, you are paying to have the BBC. You ever noticed that the BBC has none of the ads which ITV, T4, Dave etc do? Thats because the BBC is funded through our TV license, rather than companies paying to advertise. And personally, I would prefer to pay to not have my program interrupted by the go compare man every quarter of an hour.

I think that they should be free.

1.The council only pays part of the fees to keep the universities up and running,
Therefore it is there responsibility to give people the helping hand making university free.
3.It doesn’t seem fair on rich people, but maybe they should have to pay a little wage just to keep universities up and running- and allowing people to have a further education.

University used to be free when the elite brainboxes only attended and everyone else got a job at 16.

I think this is the worst thing I have ever heard.

A typical view held by students, a senseless one.

Which isn't surprising because the 'academics' of today are just the ones who jump through the hoops most readily, and they are usually the un-intelligent ones.

Why should the general population pay for your education, obviously making universities free would just increase the amount of people attending uni just because they can, needing yet more money.

Well, I think to be fair on the University everyone should at least pay something. However, I think all Universities should charge the same LOWER fees. Then, instead of choosing University based on the cost, we can decide more on the course, and actual University itself.
Good idea though! Wouldn't it make life in general easier if everything was free!? Wishful thinking...

I don't personally agree with increasing the university fees because only the rich and maybe the middle class people would be able to afford it and so what happens to the poor then? They should put the fees back to what they were before.

Is it true that only residents from Scotland would get free uni fees?
