What are your views on horror books? Do you love them or hate them?

I myself can really get stuck into a good old horror/thriller. Plus, they are usually full of gruesome description, which is totally my cup-of-tea :D

Let me know your views :D

I really hate horror books. I am terrified of horror movies, and the books just describe them in ten times more detail so i am not a fan of then. However, if it's horror, it depends on what topic the book is about. If it is a mystery/horror book, such as a serial killer, crime, or murder, i think i could force myself to get stuck into it. Although, if it is a gruesome book like ghosts, curses, or anything gory i tend to stay away from them. I have a really big phobia of blood, and i hate any description of goryness. I also hate to read horrors/thrillers before going to sleep, as there's always the possibilties of getting nightmares. I really dont like horror books. But anyways, that's just one person's opinion. I'm sure there's millions of people out there who like to get stuck into a good thriller.

Yeah i guess everyone has their own opinion on different genres. But I love them! (And that's purely down to the description.) smiley - winkeye
Mystery/horror books are fab, because not only do they have a dramatic spin-off, some can also keep you thinking about the book long after you have finished it.

Even if you cannot stand horror books, i think it's worth a try because it creates a completely different feel, compared to other books you may have read.

Other horror books can be mildly gory, but not necessarily scary. The key is to try a range of different authors. Obviously, if this does not work for you, then it's probably best to veer away from them! smiley - winkeye

I really love horror books, especially Darren Shan, I love his Demonata series, as he writes in an engaging manner. I also love The Monstrumologist books, which are full of gory detail smiley - smiley I'm not such a fan of horror movies though, i think that the modern ones often look fake (Loch Ness Terror was especially bad, as was Swamp Shark), but I love the old movies, like Dracula and Frankenstein.
