Hey, whenever I watch the news or GMTV or something like that and they r talking abou whta's gone wrong in the country or in parliment I always have my own view and a good idea about how things should work.
Because of this I think i'd make a good politician. The trouble is I'm a girl and after seeing what's going on in the USA with Hilary Clinton, i'm not sure i'd be good at that kind of thing of if people would accept me in parliment. Margret Thacher stands in the way of alot of female politicains or people make her. Why does everyone think that women can't run a country?
Elizabeth 1 did a good job, she brought equiality but just because 1 person messed up women are seen to be not good enough. Women are as good as men and women can run a country. Personally, I think Gordon Brown isn't doing a very good job at the moment.
does anyone have any views?
Thax Gabbi

I don't think there's anything wrong with you being a politcian, even the prime minister . I think the thing with Hilary Clinton is that America just aren't ready for a woman president yet after so many years of having men. I'm sure they'll catch up soon

What I find frusrtating is that, although we have now, (in Britain at least), FINALLY realised that the two genders are equal, women's wages on average are less than mens. This is not because women get payed less, but because they only seem to get employed for lower-wage jobs. Whether this is because women only feel they need these jobs, or because some employers are sub-conciously in favour of men working for them, who knows? The point is, the only way women can really be equal to men (and vice versa ) Is by saying "I can do this, no person of the opposite gender can do it any better than me!" So go for it sister!

hey Gabbi I don't think that it is necessarily easier for men either. But I do think if it is your passion then you should be willing to pursue it no matter how long it takes, and you should accept that it might not come easy. Gender is not really the main thing the public look at, what you believe in and your charisma is more important. Hillary Clinton shouldn't discourage you, because America hasn't had a black president before either. Clinton has been in politics for a much longer time than he has, and there are many reasons why she didn't make it, plus she was very close to beating him anyway, so don't look at gender. Women have high standings in other governments in the world so of course it is possible. All Im saying is definitley go for it if it's your passion, because making a difference doesn't come easy so accept that it will take time and experience. The world might be very different when you're old enough to run. Who knows? Good luck!

Errrm...how exactly does Maggie T. stand in the way of female politicians? She was our first female Prime Minister for goodness' sake! She was powerful and sharp, and although a lot of people disagreed with her policies, there's no denying that she did an awful lot for the estimation of women in our society. There is nothing that Gordon Brown CAN do to 'sort out' the problem. Given that there are far less women who actually want to be MPs and very few who are actually nominated by their party, the probability of them becoming anything 'big' in Politics is small. You can't make a woman an MP simply to even out numbers...it always has to be the person who would do the job best. If that is a man, then so be it. To do anything else would be breaking discrimination Laws...it would be discriminating against men to appoint a less-qualified/skilled woman to stand as an MP if there is a man who is better. Hilary Clinton's dismal failure was nothing to do with her being female, it was the fact that Obama is a better politician. Just think...america has far more history of racism than sexism, so following that logic, Hilary should have got the nomination. The fact that Obama overcame long standing prejudices against his race just serves to further illustrate the fact that he's a better politician. As far as I'm aware, no one thinks that women 'can't run a country'...history has shown us that it's perfectly possible.

If you have a dream to be a politician then do it, become a politician. I too was thinking about the same thing.
Just because we are female doesn't mean that we are incapable of doing certain things. We can do things just as well as males if not better.
I know that everything is supposed to be equal today, but it is still clearly not, as males do think they are superior to females. It is just not fair! But that is what life sometimes is.
Anyway im going off the point a little. If you want to be a politician then be one. Show all the sexist males out there that us females are perfectly capable of doing a job successfully, and could indeed run a country, if you get the chance. You sound determined that it is what you want to do, so i am sure that one day, you could be the next female prime minister.
Good luck

I reckon that if you want to be a politician, then you shouldn't let anything stop you. But I disagree with what you're saying about Margaret Thatcher standing in the way of females in politics. She was after all our first female prime minister and is so often overlooked as a feminist icon because she annoyed the miners and mucked up the economy. As for Hilary Clinton, I hardly think being one of the most famous female politicians in the world sets a negative example. If you want to be a politician and are worried about people not liking you, then perhaps you could have a look at famous female politicians like Clinton or Thatcher to see what they did right and be inspired. Green-Puck.

if you keep thinking that your sex will stop you being as successful as you should be then you are restricting your limits. By saying that men can do a job better than women is encouraging sexism. If you wanna be a politician go for it! Keep speaking your mind and I'll vote for you!
