hey guys
I realy would like to find out your opinions, so please reply.
I just started learning spanish and french this year.now i have to decide which one to take next year.
I can't decide which subject i should take.I know french is essential and widely used ,but it has been realy difficult to learn and I can't realy undertand it .I in the other hand enjoy spanish and i can speak it almost perfectly.
If i take french next year , i could maybe improve and know how to speak 2 languages , but i'm really scared for the exams i don't know if i'll manage.I also can't seem to get good results no matter how hard i try, its almost never good enough for the teacher. If i take spanish i will be able to pass my exams and speak it even more fluently and i realy enjoy it ,its always fun to learn.
so what are your opinions, i would realy apreciate your advice.
p.s. sorry if its too long
hope to get your replys : )
It all depends on what you're good at; I chose French but if you prefer Spanish then go for that! anyway, Spanish is widely used across South and Central America, while French is only really used in France, Canada and parts of Africa.

hey sweety
i think you should choose what u enjoy and what u r good at which according to you is spanish so go on with it!it is as simple as possible!
and if you are worried that u won't be able to speak french that fluently then don't worry you can always learn french in your vacations or some break or keep on learning it side by side so that on an average you know the language if wanna do it soooo desperatly else just leave it.
hope it works for you bcoz ppl ofeach place have a dif. style of living and educating.
well if u r gd at spanish then take it, and its a big bonus u enjoy it....dont worry about where it is spoken remember that if u have a language gcse unis like it
dont try and let other people influence u cause its u who will have 2 sit the lessons and revise, and if u can speak spanish well then u r already halfway there...i took french but it was that or german :/ x

Thanks for ur advice guys
I realy appreciate it , looks like i'll be taking spanish nex year
Heeeyy....
i learnt french at school, and done it for GCSE. i found french difficult but i loved it overall i got a C
French exams are not hard at all!!!
But if you want to improve French then why don't you go to a club or something that teaches you to speak and write different languages. then you could still do french and spanish and improve both of them. i carry on with my french now, and have got so much better. they really do help
just something to think about if you don't want to stop learning both.
GOOD LUCK x

Spanish is more widely spoken and you seem to enjoy it more, so I would take that if I were in your shoes.
It's good that you have been taking two subjects together so that you can compare. I think you should base your final choice on two things:
1. Which do you prefer? Personally I'd prefer Spanish and it is easier, but it's a very personal choice. Maybe other people think different.
2. Okay this point is a bit biased. I do not want to make partial judgements but here it is: French is mostly spoken in France and Canada and of course a great deal of other places, but it is quite obvious that the Spanish speaking population is more than the French speaking population. Also some French speaking people can understand and speak English, while a large number people who have Spanish as their mother tongue cannot. I cannot conclude that Spanish is more useful, but at least you would understand more people and more people would understand you. You might therefore consider Spanish as your final choice.
Of course you can still take two subjects together if you are confident. As you already know some things if not a lot of things about the languages, it might be an idea.
Good luck in your studies and sorry for this l-o-n-g message!
HI! I'm Spanish and i think that the french is a language more difficult, but spanish is more useful... i'm spanish but at the school i study english and french... This comment is my homework for today

yes
Go with your feelings don't let anyone get you down. Don't go along with your friends just because their your friends they could be better at the one you don't want to do.
I'm lucky to have had the opportunity to study Spanish, French and German at a lower level and had a similar dilemma in trying to decide which to take. In the end I opted for Spanish.
You don't want to be stuck doing a language that you don't enjoy learning as normally you will find it easier to learn if you enjoy the subject. Also, there's no guarantee that things will become easier as you will learning at a higher level.
Ultimately though, the decision is entirely yours. Both languages look good on any application form and are quite widely used, they are also both seen as academically sound subjects if you study them at A-level. In the end it's purely a matter of what you feel is best for you.

Go for Spanish
if u cant decide take both!! best of both worlds!!
chris?
Hi,
I had the same problem as this French or Spanish. I ended up doing both!!
If you can i think that 2 languages are better than one but can get confusing as i have them both on the same day!
But i am quite talented at languages overall and i believe that if you find it difficult then Spanish is probably the easier option as it has simpler and less vocabulary.
Hope this helps.

Hi Chocolate_lover
If i were you, i'd take Spanish exam .. because you feel sure about your knowledges.. you speak fluently and that's a good point! However, don't give up French, it's useful too and no so difficult, you only have to practise the proninciation, which is the most difficult part.. In my opinion, French grammar is easier than spanish !
Hope this advise would be useful for you ..
I am doing both French and Spanish for GCSE, and I find that verbs are easier in French and vocab is easier in Spanish. Overall I'd say Spanish was easier, but I have been doing French longer and understand it easily too. But if you find Spanish easier, go for that. Possibly take French too if you really want to improve
hii i am not good at spanish or french but if ur good at spansih then chose it, i have got a similer problem like you beacause i really love geography but i dont know if i should chose it, i want to become a doctor thats what i want as my career but should i chose history beacuse it is about medicine and i want to study medicine but i find history hard AND BORING! I wanna choose one of them is it Geography or History? I dont know which one to choose and i am really sad but i am gonna get my teacher to help me chose
I had more or less the same choice to make (although I also could have chosen German) and in the end I was really glad I chose to take Spanish.
At the end of the day, it's really what you prefer doing. French was once considered the better language to know but Spanish is also very widely spoken and the two are now mostly considered equal.
Generally when you enjoy a school subject you do better in it, just because you're more likely to want to put extra effort in to learn, but like I said, it's really just about which you would rather spend your time learning.
I would go with whatever one you know more of then you will find it easier and get higher grades

just do what ever you think suits you, after all your the wone doing it
Easy.
If you prefer Spanish then go for it.

I think you should take Spanish because you shouldn't do a subject you dont enjoy also, you speak Spanish almost perfectly so why not keep learning more of it? But its your choice what you wanna do.. do what your heart says
I have a friend long tieme ago and now he is in Cambridge University in England. In IGCSE, he got 9 A levels. That includes an A level in Spanish language... To be honest, I think Spanish is better!!!

spanish is well easier

I'm in year 11, and I've just done my spanish GCSE. It was a new subject for GCSE in our school, and so there's only 7 of us in the class! Personally, i find Spanish much easier than French, and I enjoy it more as a result. Spanish is (hopefully) gonna be my third language (I speak Welsh and English). To be honest, if you feel that Spanish is the right subject for you- or French- Go for it
i had the same issues but in the end for GCSE i took Spanish, but how i got to that decision is i spoke to both my Spanish and French teacher and mum dad friends ect ect and i'm happy with my choice but you can always change if you are finding it too hard or don't like it
whatever you choose good luck and enjoy, not everyone can speak another language

by the way imma girl i just support liverpool
I am the same, I try hard at french put fail all the time, so I think you should go for what your good at. Better to do well in something you enjoy then to do rubbish in something you hate.
At my current school, you don't really get a choice. If you get one language, you'll probably have to study the other when you go to the next school. I already know some Spanish and a bit of French so I'm looking to taking French more. So you might want to take French. Maybe you might want to learn Spanish over the holidays so that it could fit in. That's only my opinion.
From experience I find that French isn't actually that difficult if you buckle down and learn the basics but which ever you personally prefer is perfect
Spanish
