Can anyone help me with techniques to right about in this novel. There is characterisation on Paul, and imagery used but they are the only ones I currently have any notes on.

Another good technique to discuss would be symbolism - i.e. where something represents something else.
For example: symbolism of the river (dividing line between war zone and peace); symbolism of the boots (which are passed on and each person who wears them dies, showing how little value human life has in war); butterflies (represent beauty of nature and fragility of life), etc.
Try not to discuss such techniques for their own sake, but show how they help the reader understand the characters and themes.
