I just want you all to remember that it was not so long ago that Roger Bolton somehow found the comment I made here in response to the person who ridiculed his use of a Latin tag on Feedback...

There is a curious echo in the 'confusion' you refer to. Don't you remember my complaint to you some years ago about your use of this word? And I believe I asked you to prove or otherwise demonstrate this to be true of any of my postings. Answer came there none. Not a dicky bird from you.

And I find it strange that you should now repeat this offensive comment with part of a posting of mine on The Choice. What confuses you about this or any other of the 'many postings' you refer to? Do tell me. As I have suggested to Joe the G, put up or shut up.

And is it not strange that your hero of the hour is one apparently celebrating the demise of these boards? Along with the not unexpected BD.

    I'm afraid I don't, bledwim.

But I can confirm that I sometimes find your posts confusing, and I think the degree to which I am confused is something I may be permitted to decide for myself.

The post I quoted was, I think, the one where you did finally explain what you were talking about., and was the first I read on that thread that I did not find confusing.

I was very confused (as were others, to be fair) by your posts 4, 5, 8, 19, and 21, though I did not see your OP before it disappeared, and so must reserve judgment upon that.

    To all our messageboard users

The closure will take place on Friday 1 April, to give you time to close existing conversations and, if you desire, make plans to regroup elsewhere on the web. I realise this will be a disappointment to some of you but I hope that you will continue to engage with us in other ways from April.

Closure is 1 April. Clearly that means it will no longer be possible to post to the messageboards but will they still be available for access to read? The cost of just keeping them up, archived and static, must be minimal so hopefully, please, do not delete but keep them here, for some time at least

The closure of other boards hasn't prevented their content from being accessed for some time at least. I hope this one lasts till I get home and can think about the new possibilities suggested here. If not, hopefully googling David Crosbie will lead me eventually to them.

When the Big Read boards closed we managed to open a new one and it works fine, though there are ads. I have no trouble ignoring ads.

    Cheers, Caro.

If what happened when the other closed boards is anythinbg to go by, so long as you have a link to a particular thread, you can access that, but you won't be able to get the board's homepage.

This to me is not a wholly personal matter. No doubt you will have also conveniently forgotten the case of corsycan who retired from further posting on these boards having been accused by several other posters of being confused. His postings were, indeed, sometimes difficult to understand. And he sadly admitted in his last that he had been suffering from mental illness. However, I did make the effort to understand his postings. And they were understandable whether one agreed with them or not..

And, over the years, there has been a succession of posters asking others not to give up the pills, and the like. Cheap bullies who are usually short of facts and of any other style of argument. The ad hommies.

I have never said such a thing, bledwim, and I object to your linking me with anyone who has.

And I don't believe I have ever said anyone was confused - I've said that I have been confused myself as a result of others' confusing posts.

I have not speculated on the reason why these posters did not express themselves clearly. I don't speculate on why your posts are difficult to understand.

I have never, ever suggested that any poster was mentally ill, nor would I.

Look on the positive side Bledw, the messageboard closure here will give you more time to write your eagerly-awaited Radio 4 comedy series. Good luck.

    Another suggestion.

All regular posters here could start threads in The Bull, and then (since TA seems to be immortal) anyone can bring up their posting history, which will incude posts on these boards when they've been closed.

    Dear Jean,
I think that I will not start another thread in The Bull, I will try to preserve my time on these boards as an amusing memory. I have, for the most part, enjoyed participating in these discussions although I got chased off the WH board pretty sharpish for daring to express my religious belief! I have learnt a lot about the English language and my own Hiberno-English from the time spent with the contributors to these discussions.

It has amused me to see the transformation of AirHairLair into Conformordie ( for a very short time ) and then into Johnnysmoth. The clue that this was the same poster lay in the fact that these names were used in succession, not simultaneously, and the language and vituperatiion was the same no matter which name was attached to the post. He never would accept that I was not a part of a gang and picking on him all the time. But, as he would say himself, "HO HUM!"

I would like to say goodbye and good luck to you Jean, DavidCrosbie, Caro and anyone else who thought that my posts were worth reading and commenting on. I will finish with a bit of Irish:

Go mbeiriid beo ag an am seo aris! ( May we all be alive at this time next year! )

I had no idea you'd ever posted on WH! Shows what kind of a gang leader I am!

I've enjoyed talking to you. Save the links, and we may meet again.
