Well Long John, this is a good illustration of taste and the fact that we all can feel integrity in our own...I personally thought it charming and creative (as you will note from my comment). I do, however respect that others do not. Hence I may love John Renbourn's music or Eliza Carthy, while others hate it. That is a great thing about acoustic music.
As to why make it- well I have got lots of pleasure from it this festive season, so that is one reason, as I am sure many others have too. Trying things out has always been a great thing about folk music, often against a tide of protest- 50 years ago most folk clubs banned the use of the guitar....
My taste runs across the spectrum, though with bias to folk in the last decade. While I can see some diehard folkies hating it bacause it is the Beatles and others the opposite, I happen to think that it stands up well.
