Fairport Convention singing Hiring Fair....
We heard it live about 20 years ago on our 2nd date. We bought the LP and still listen to it together!

Nothing in particular for me at the moment but there again, while words can make me stop, listen and perhaps think, I don't go in search of "deep meaningful words" as such. While I may have answered similar questions differently in the past, the more I think of it, words and tunes (yes tunes can mean more than words) in terms of great personal meaning are connected to time and place and can even mean different things at different times. Life moves on and I try to move on with it.

Hi Lizzie
Difficult to chose one but probably Greek Lightning by Jez Lowe as it reminds me so much of my parents' unfulfilled lives.
Alternatively 'Time' (or is it 'Breathe'?) on Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd as 'Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines' are an exact description of my attempts at writing music & songs!

Possibly 'Dimming of the Day' on 'Pour Down Like Silver.' A wonderful mixture of longing and expectation that in most other hands comes across as a bit yucky (much as I like Bonnie Raitt her version just plods by comparison).
But the way Linda sang it...and then the flip into that Scottish tune. Perfection.

LC posted what she says was her favourite song. 'Twas a bit blue, but her choice.
Just wondering why (or by whose action) it got zapped. If mods don't explain themselves but just shriek 'don't, cos I say so', how can we know why we're being naughty?

They were simply....beautiful and honest words....which mean a great deal to me right now.... I've no idea why the Mods removed them. "Turn Me Tender" by Martyn Joseph www.myspace.com/mart...Lizzie

Favourites are for different times: For winter gatherings of friends - Now Be Thankful. For getting ready to go out some old school punk - Another Girl another Planet, or In a Rut. For bellowing along to drunkenly - Unisex Chip Shop by Bill Bailey. For insane pogoing/frugging - Sally Maclennane For storming the barricades For a' That and the Gaughan/Bragg red flag. For moving on from places, 51st highland division and from people, RTs Dry my tears and move on.
and then theres.......

One of my favourite songs is The Snows They Melt The Soonest. It hardly matters who performs it, because the lyrics are so poetic and moody. As an obvious Cara Dillon fan, it's her version I choose to listen to mostly, but Anne Briggs and Susan McKewon also do good versions.
Another of my favourites is Country Life by Shows of Hands. It has a wonderful melody and he is one of my favourite folk vocalists.
If I can just mention a couple more...
Bob Dylan's Times They Are a-Changing and...
Finally, there's also something very special about Cara Dillon's Erin The Green. Incidentally, I've been hunting for another version of this song. It's always healthy to have a few variations. Does anyone know of another recording artist who sings this song?
