I think Radio 1 really need to play this song. Mainly just because of the global success it's having. It's gone to number-one in almost every country that it's been released in (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Switzeland, Greece, Luxembourg, and Europe, to name a few).

It's by no means the best song of the year or anything, but I think it's very good, and it's ashame that the UK misses out on so many European hits, especially one as big as this.

To be honest, I think this song is bound to get released in the UK sometime in the upcoming year, as it's just too popular over the rest of Europe (and they've started playing it in Canada now). People are going to hear it on holidays in the summer, if they go abroad.

But I think it would be cool if Radio 1 were the first people to introduce this song to the UK. A problem is that the lyrics are in French, and people in the UK haven't traditionally been very receptive to music without English lyrics, but seeing as it's 2010, and we live in a worldwide community, I think it's about time we hear music from artists from other countries (especially if it's a full on worldwide smash, like Alors on danse is). There's lots of great music the UK are missing out on in general, but Alors on danse, in particular, I think, is getting too popular to be ignored.

Well they bought 'Macarena' so there's a slim chance laugh

And Europe is a country now? laugh

I'm sure that was an honest mistake but still, it was funny.

Yeah, I don't really think Europe is a country. :D My Geography skills aren't THAT bad (although my English skills clearly are, looking at my post XD).

But the song has topped the Billboard European chart ( en.wikipedia.org/wik... ), which is pretty amazing, considering that it hasn't been released in a few of the European countries that contribute to the chart.

If the popularity of the other European number-ones this year (Meet Me Halfway, Bad Romance, Tik Tok and Telephone) is anything to go by, Alors on Danse seems to be a very popular song, so I think it has potential in this country, if people can get past the lyrics, which is possible, as most people in other countries have English lyrics in a lot of the songs they listen to.

Also, Europe is not a country. :D

winkeye

That other tune by Las Ketchup (was that it) was in Spanish too wasn't it and that done well in the chart. Seems to be the Spanish ones that do the best. If it's a Euro holiday tune and it has a catchy enough chorus then maybe it'll be a hit at the tail end of summer once people have holidayed and heard it a lot.

I remember hearing that ketchup one everyday when I was in Spain and I thought it was a joke song but then a few months later everyone in the UK is loving it and it's number one doh

Also, I'm not sure if anyone remembers Dragostea din tei. That got to #3 in the UK in 2004 (and #1 in Austria, Italy and Sweden, and Europe, the continent). Rihanna and T.I. sampled it in Live Your Life, from 2008, if that helps.

So perhaps people would be able to get around the French lyrics. I don't know.

Also a few people are already buying a version of Alors on Danse by DJ Team on iTunes.

Yeah, I noticed that about Shakira too, because I look at the charts from other countries as a bit of a hobby of mine.

To be fair, Gypsy got a lot of airplay on one of my local commercial radio stations, and I saw it once on TV.

However, that football song she's doing, Waka Waka (I think), isn't known by the general UK public.

Perhaps Radio 1 should devote an hour a week to play the worldwide smashes which we don't hear in the UK.

But if they don't, they've at least got to play Alors on danse. It's so popular everywhere else in Europe, I'm actually shocked we're still ignoring it here!

Yeh i agree this should get played and be given a chance. How is it ever gonna be no 1 over here unless Radio 1 play it!

I agree. If it shooting up to the top of the charts in almost all the other countries is anything to go by, this song might have a shot at #1. But, of course, this will never happen if people here aren't aware the song exists...

It's been played on 1xtra!!!

www.youtube.com/watc...

Well, sort of. It's a remix of the song by Neil Brown with English lyrics, and it's been renamed "So We Skank". I think the original version is much better, but at least it's something!

I think the best English version of the song is the one by Lumidee ft. Chase Manhattan. Mainly because they do the "La la la" bit from the original song.

Anyway, it's quite promising that a remix of the song is getting airplay.

Alors on danse is getting released on the 9th of August!

Really shocked about this to be honest, but really happy at the same time. I hope Radio 1 playlist it!
