Have you seen the trailers?
I fear the worst.
But then I am quite happy to pass judgement before watching it...
What's your guess ?

Is that the thing about the vet? Yes, looks dire. I wish they wouldn't put those off-putting trails on. They more often put me off than encourage me to watch. In fact, if they stopped making the stupid trails they could have afforded to keep Mustardland open. I know they have to spin out progs that only run for 50 minutes, but how about filling those minutes with stock pics of small animals playing, while someone with a soothing voice (Eddie Mair, for instance) tells you what great shows are coming up, then a list of the stuff he's been telling you about comes up at the end? I'd rather watch kittens puppies or panda cubs playing than watch the stupid trails......In fact I'd rather watch them than half the stupid programmes, come to think of it!

Mine is that I shall give it a miss. Not because it will necessarily be bad, but because it just isn't my kind of programme. My idea of 'funny' is the original Yes Minister and Ronnie Barker.

I haven't seen the trailers, but I too have low expectations.
I've quite liked Perkins on her programmes with Mel Giedroyc and Giles Coren.
But she's not very good on her own, and a positive pain on the radio panel shows I've heard her on.
I'm hoping she's had some help from collaborators, and comedies are notorious for being woeful until they find their feet - but I reckon this one's going to be decidedly iffy.

'Heading Out' - it's about a gay vet who "comes out". See what she did there?

I'd rather watch kittens puppies or panda cubs playing than watch the stupid trails......
Or angel fish or a potter's wheel................
I find that my usual response to trails for new comedy shows lately is:
"Good gods, are these the *best* bits?"

That's my fear..... that stuffing tissues in her mouth represents the comic highlight. Singular.

I've always been a big fan of Sue Perkins so I am looking forward to this. I will pass judgement after I have seen it though. Anything else would be pointless.

I'll give it a go - I also like Sue.
The trailers for most shows do not 'work' as the scenes have to watched in context to the main story.
I hope there are some animals and owners featured each week.

I admit that the chances are high. It has a lot going for it including an amazing supporting cast.

OK I'll stick my neck out..Sue Perkins nowhere near as funny as she thinks she is.
The trailers...the whole tone suggests a poor attempt at something dated and passe .
Terry and June say, or My Family.
Ergo, and without benefit of the powers of prophecy, it will be crap.

They said that Miranda and Mrs Browns Boys were dated and passé and look what happened there.

You have rather proved my point.
I didn't say it would be unpopular.
Although I suspect that in this instance it will be both crap AND unpopular.
As opposed to crap and popular.
Which no doubt means that series 2 is already commissioned.

Well I certainly thought they were both crap.
I've not enjoyed a sitcom since twenty twelve.

I love Mrs Brown's Boys and hated twenty twelve - so it just goes to show that we're all different.

I'm a big fan of Miranda, but MBB & Twenty Twelve not my cup of tea at all.
Comedy seems to bring out strong feelings in people - perhaps we should be banning discussion of it on this board, along with sport & politics ...

I usually really like Sue and will watch, but slightly worried it is going to be all comedy of embarrassment, which I always find too embarrassing to be funny (Miranda I could only watch from behind the sofa, and I’m a bit old for that)
Perhaps though it will be like Getting On – just enough embarrassment to liven it up without dwelling on it.
I can hope
The director comes form The Thick of It, which is promising

But this thread was started by me in order to express my view that the upcoming series would be crap. Not ' not to my taste ' or 'not my cup of tea ' but crap.

How is that sticking your neck out? You're just expressing an opinion, which anyone's entitled to do.
For the record, I think Sue Perkins is fairly funny, but also quite a sympathetic sort of person - I'm always pleased when she crops up on something, although...she seems to smiling a bit too much when she's doing her stuff as a panellist on telly, which for me slightly lessens the comedic impact of her contributions.
So I'm interested to see how she fares in an acting situation - I really hope it won't be the sort of self-indulgent jobs-for-the-girls production that Jam and Jerusalem was (IMO).

I'm not sure why you cite that long-defunct programme, which (correct me if I'm wrong) had absolutely nothing to do with Sue Perkins.
For the record, I really liked the first two JaJ series, but felt it lost its way badly in the third.

No, you're absolutely right in that it has nothing to do with Sue P. I suppose I was slightly spooked by the prospect of an impressive cast-list, which I also thought J & J had, but which I didn't think was put to particularly good use in that programme. I didn't stick with it as you obviously did, but I saw some of the earlier episodes, which explains why I didn't bother with any of the later ones. Once again, IMO.

I see. I just assumed that "Sue Perkins nowhere near as funny as she thinks she is." referred to an assessment based on what you'd already observed about her, over a period of time, rather than on a guess.
My mistake, obviously.

No you are correct about that.
I then deduced from that that if I find her unfunny when she is on a panel show, or with Giles Coren dressed in period costume, I am unlikely to crease up with laughter at her self penned series.

An educated guess, then. I think you're probably right.
(Walks off slowly, but at the last minute turns round like Columbo...)
MInd you....I don't recall ever seeing her actually acting before - she might turn out to be one of those actors who submerge themselves completely in a role, whatever it is, so much that you actually FORGET that it's them.
No? Perhaps not.

The Radio Times made it their 'Pick of the Day', but the write-up is strangely equivocal.
They don't say it's funny, and describe it has a 'gamble' using lines like 'comedy and niceness aren't always bedfellows'.
It's also due to be reviewed on next week's Review Show, which hopefully won't have Hannah McGill on it (unlike last night, when she constantly interrupted everybody
).

It is human nature. If the members of the cast are known then a person is quite likely to prejudge based on their feelings about that/those member/s. With the added assistance of a trailer giving a taster of what to expect it is normal to decide whether to watch or not. Surely?
I will not watch this, for example, because I dislike one of the cast with a passion, and even mute the trailer when it is played

Did I misread this somewhere but I thought this was her idea and that she had written it herself ... like Jo Brand did using her own experiences as a psychiatric nurse.

I liked it. First episode establishing the characters. Think the 'Life Coach' will be fun - the netball hakka was good - and the second vet who is in to re-enactments has promise.
And I did laugh at the owner and dog leaving the surgery - with the owner wearing the cone!!!!
